Convenient Hilton Hawaiian Village
Love staying at the Ali'i Tower. It has it's own pool, great front desk staff, and views. This was our second time here, this time before taking the NCL interisland cruise. June was a busy month, but there was room at the beach and always a table free at the restaurants. Kids are mostly in the Superpool or the beach, so the Ali'i pool is relaxing for adults to sun and swim. The room was very clean, refrigerator, (no microwave), and the balcony was super nice to sit on mornings and evenings. We like swimming in the lagoon as well. Hilton Hawaiian Village has an interesting history and this is depicted in a display in the ground floor walkway to shopping in the Tapa Tower. It is easy to grab a cab to anywhere out front, and the hotel has an excursion desk in the main lobby. Looking forward to our next visit here!

Pleasantly surprised.
I stayed here over a decade ago and had heard that the hotel had gone downhill, well I'm glad I didn't listen and booked the Hilton Hawaiian Village. I was very pleased with our stay! Hotel Room: We stayed in the Tapa Tower, which was recently renovated. It was centrally located on the property. It had a pool next to the tower, which I don't think most people know of or didn't want to walk over so it was never really crowded and we were always able to find chairs. The room was clean, bed was comfy and the housekeepers were so kind. I signed up for the Hilton Honors membership (free) and booked directly through the hotel because they were having a flash sale, this allowed me to choose my room when I checked in and a few other perks. Food: We didn't eat on property as the prices were ridiculous. We did eat at the Tapa bar one night, $25 for 6 chicken wings! We got snacks and small bites at the 2 ABC stores on property and walked over to the Ala Moana Mall or into central Waikiki most nights to eat dinner. It's about 1 mile either way, so not bad. Parking: We got a rental car for 2 days from the Enterprise Discovery Bay and parked at the Ala Wai Harbor. They have metered parking for $1/hr. I paid $16 to park over night which totally beats the $75/night the HHV charges. We parked around 5 in the evening and there was still plenty of spaces. However, you might have issues finding a spot on Friday night because of the firework show. Entertainment: The pools were fun and we didn't have an issue getting chairs at any of the pools, we just got lucky I guess. You are given towel cards to exchange for towels and you have to return the cards when you check out, otherwise it's a $20/ per card charge. The Friday night fireworks was better than expected, the view is better from the lagoon facing the Rainbow tower imo. Customer Service: Every staff member from the front desk to housekeeping was so friendly and helpful, except for the kids that worked at the towel booth, they were all grumpy. Suggestions: You are provided 3 cards when checking in, room key, DVD now and towel cards. It would help if it was minimized as that's a lot to keep track of. The first day was overwhelming because it's a huge complex with so many things going on but once I figured it out, I was able to relax and enjoy my vacation. I would definitely stay again!

Nice resort experience
Not a budget hotel, but then, there aren't many of those in Hawaii anyway. It sure is pretty inside and out, as a Honolulu hotel should be, and it's packed with convenient fun activities. The staff is first-rate, polite and helpful. I've noticed that was true of all (four) hotels I stayed at in Oahu and Hawaii -- yay Hawaiians! You're great people. The rooms are pleasant and it's a really nice pool. That "lagoon" in the photographs is, well, more of a pond. Or, a huge blue puddle. Not real impressive when you're right up close to it. But that isn't a deal-killer. Would you come to Hawaii just for this hotel? No. Nor any other hotels. But this one will give you the Hawaii experience you want.

WHY NOT TO STAY IN KALIA TOWER
We LOVE the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, stay there annually, and have stayed in all the towers. We've enjoyed staying in (almost) all of them, especially Ali'i and Grand Islander. Our most recent stay was in Kalia Tower. Here are 25 reasons not to stay there. 1. The tower is older and not updated. 2. Our room had lots of wall plugs but no USB ports. 3. We asked for an office chair, which they would not provide. 4. We asked for a hassock or footstool; they declined. 5. The carpet was stained. 6. The upholstery was stained. 7. The love seat was old, saggy and lumpy. 8. There was no microwave oven. 9. There is a Starbucks in the lobby but the coffee in the room was not from Starbucks. 10. The in-room coffee was "10% Hawaiian" and the other 90% being presumably stable sweepings. 11. They provided powdered coffee creamer instead of liquid half-and-half. 12. There were only two tiny waste baskets; the room needed at least three. 13. There was bird poop all over the room's lanai. 14. There was no screen on the lanai door, inviting bugs and bold birds into the room. 15. There was a single bathroom sink for two people. 16. There was one handrail in the shower-tub; none alongside the toilet. 17. The toilet was at an elevation ideal for Munchkins. 18. There was no bidet. 19. The woodwork in the bathroom was chipped. 20. The hotel is non-smoking yet dense clouds of marijuana smoke wafted through the lanai every evening. 21. The tower has its own swimming pool; there were ducks swimming in it. 22. There was neither a locker room nor showers adjacent to the pool. 23. Guests' trash was left in the pool area; no one appeared to clean it up. 24. The very pleasant front-desk staff were primarily interested in selling timeshares. 25. There were no flowers in the room, no pillow mints, and no turn-down service. Is this really a Hilton property?

OLD and WORN OUT. Disappointing. Rainbow Tower Room 1602
OLD and TIRED hotel resort. High mileage and poorly maintained. The hotel room has worn out old carpet. The power outlets are outdated (no power adapters for USB cords). The beds are thin, old, and uncomfortable. The bedsheets are visibly dirty, faded, and worn-out on the edges. The heat/air vents are loud. The TV is outdated without any options for streaming. They still have DVD players attached to the TVs. The service is ok, but visibly spread thin. Most employees are walking away while they answer your questions for help or direction. Instead of taking you where you need to go, they simply point to the direction- usually general direction instead of specific. The food at Tropics Bar is overpriced and terrible. I would suggest you take a 15 minute walk to the mall and get an excellent option with reasonable pricing. The lagoon is the positive aspect if you have kids. Otherwise, this Hitlon hotel resort was a disappointment.
