Great Location, Fantastic Staff
We have stayed here four times in the past 6 weeks. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful (including but not limited to John N, George, Katia, Rich, Katie). The property is clean and adheres to safety guidelines. They will do anything they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. Modern bathrooms as well. The location is fantastic with many restaurants and stores within walking distance. Very close to UNC and BlueLine Light Rail System. This is my go to in Charlotte and highly recommend,
Nice staff, remodeled room, great views but water leak
The staff was friendly. When we got to our room there was a sticker showing it had been cleaned. When we walked in the cleaning smell was really strong, made my eyes sting. It was still strong the next day. I’m guessing they fogged the room with something? I still wiped down the end tables as I could see rings in the stone from previous guests. We were on the 12th floor. The remote was marked as cleaned with a sticker. The TV was very hard to work. By sheer luck of pressing lots of buttons we got a channel. Staff was quick to bing us more towels and coffee our second day. Our issue was the 2nd night. I had noticed the carpet felt damp but thought it was the AC. Our bags were soaked. We got back and after my daughter was asleep I discovered on my side of the room the carpet was soaking wet. It sloshed.. We had been told the rooms were newly renovated. I called down and a person came up promptly and offered to move us. As it was so late I asked if we could switch in the am. I called early down to the lobby asking for a cart & new room. Desk clerk said they couldn’t bring a cart but could give us a key for a different room to get dressed in as I was thinking it’s a bad idea to shower with clear water-leak. She called back and said no I could not change rooms as all the rooms were taken. This was not the case because all the rooms around me were empty. At least 5 with the blue stickers intact. It was Disappointing to have no real breakfast for diamond level. I’m gluten free and the only thing in the bag breakfast I could eat was juice. It had juice , a bar, muffin, and pastry. Yogurt or cereal (gluten free) would have been nice. Or something to microwave in the room such as a gluten free egg which. Thankfully we brought stuff. During the dance competition I didn’t see staff cleaning much. The elevators were stressful. Some people got very angry if you asked them To wait for an empty elevator and not share with them. It’s of course not possible to social distance in an elevator. I wish they had more outside seating. They had ample space and zero tables outside to eat at. The lovely outside patio off a ball room had no tables or places to sit to escape unmasked diners.
Slightly disappointed this time.
I have stayed at this property several times previously, with almost no issues. The location is great and the views are awesome. The staff is usually friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The rooms have always been very clean and everything in working order. Let me preface what I am about to tell you with I stay in various Hilton branded hotels around the US for 200+ nights a year. Almost all of those locations either have returned to having breakfast, open restaurants, open bars, open executive lounge, or they offer vouchers in place of not having access to those amenities as you are paying the same price for the room but not getting what you paid for. Now, for this visit, things are different. This location however seems to feel that you do not need anything. They do not have any of the restaurants open, nor the executive lounge, nor are they offering any type of breakfast. They also are not offering any type of voucher or replacement. According to the gentleman I talked to at the front desk I could have a grab and go bag breakfast since I was a Diamond member. It contained a drink, a granola bar, and a fruit or similar items. Moving on to the rooms I have booked. Like I said previously, the rooms are almost always very clean and functioning properly. However, this time I had to figure out why my tv wouldn't turn on (the plug on the back was not plugged in). I have also found 3 light bulbs that are burned out. In the second room that I have rented for my kids, I found more light bulbs burned out. This is something that the maids could/should check for each day. Quite disappointing visit this time, not the usual standard I get from most Hilton hotels. I really do not like to mention the Marriott chain as I switched to Hilton after almost 25 years with Marriott, however, they seem to be doing a lot better job offering the customers more normalcy with the amenities. With the exception of any local laws due to COVID-19, there is no reason for some of the Hiltons to offer nothing at all. They expect you to pay the same price and receive no amenities in return. They also do not want to offer any vouchers or anything else as well.
I traveled here for 1 year. They take care of you.
Just to set expectations, I am a Diamond Member. I stayed at hotels over 150 nights last year for projects in SIngapore, Columbus, and Charlotte. The minute I know I am on a project for over 6 months and i know the hotel is the one I want to stay at, I let the manager know so I can get booked at the hotel or know I can call him if the hotel is full and still get a room. The do that for you here and will go out of their way for you to make sure that you get a good room (Executive level and Executive Lounge and Breakfast tickets). The managers are George and Kim and they will take care of you. You just need to talk to them and let them know Vic (me) gave you the skinny. Look, there are many hotels in the area, but this one is the best if you are working the area NE of downtown or by UNC Charlotte. There are many amenities, you are a block away from the Blueline Light Rail station which gets you downtown or to many restaurants and breweries for $4 round trip. Close restaurants, close to UNC, and close to Wells Fargo Main offices or TIAA offices. The rooms are great, very clean, and the beds are super comfortable.. They are renovating the rooms as I write this. Breakfast in the Executive lounge is very nice. Bacon, Sausage, eggs, Fruit, oatmeal are nice. Depending on the price or deal you arrange with the front desk can also get you access to free breakfast int the main restaurant which gives you access to a bigger buffet and omelet bar. Other amenities: Pool when the weather gets good. Full restaurant and bar with many of the good local brewery IPAs on tap like NODA and Birdsong. The bartenders are nice and have good local recommendations. The dinner selection is good (Salads, Fish, Steak, Burgers, pulled pork etc). The gym is ok. 4 treadmills, two step climber machines, free weights. One pull-down / combo resistance machine. Here is a secret tip (SHHHHHHHH): There is a gym a block away called FItness Connection. They don't advertise it but if you tell them you are staying at the Hilton and show your room card and Drivers License, they let you in one time a day for free. Full gym, all the weights and machines. Very big. Crowded after 6 AM to 8 AM and after 5 PM to 7 PM. Try to go before 6AM or after 7 PM. Oh another thing.... They have a shuttle that will take you to anywhere within a 5 mile radius. Very convenient if you don't want to pay extra for Uber or taxi. The drivers names are Cozi in the morning and Victor in the Evenings. Very nice guys. Victor knows alot about music so hit him up if you are a music fan. Tip them and they will take care of you. Nicest guys around. I hope this review helps and ask me any questions if you have them.
Attended conference and one elevator and one escalator were out. They did not repair either one in the 5 days I was there. This non responsiveness led to extremely long lines and inevitably short tempers.
