    Amazing

Overall, a brilliant stay. Negatives: - Check in process: our journey to the resort had many delays, including a broken down bus. This left my partner and I feeling a little less fresh than we could have been. Check in was a lengthy process which involved filling in lots of forms, listening to an introductory speech, and waiting what felt like an age for someone to show us to our rooms (we would have preferred a resort map and a key as we were exhausted). Whether it was a culmination of the delays and all the waiting around or whether check in is just a bit over the top in general, we did not find it a great experience. To top it off, when we got to the room the mini bar was empty and we had to wait over an hour for water to be brought to us. (It was around 8pm in Jamaica so I am sure the staff were very busy in the restaurants) Positives: - Rooms: stunning rooms with an amazing shower and comfy beds. We ended up with an ocean view room and a huge balcony. The room was clean with regular maid services. The air conditioning was great. - Beach: there are three beach areas, including the Diamond club (which we were not). The beach closest to the main stage was where we spent most of our holiday. It was peaceful and secluded so perfect for relaxing and reading. I found the pool to be too noisy for my tastes (though my partner thought it was a great atmosphere there.) - Drinks: easy to get what you want, when you want it. The coffee bar is amazing. The cocktails during the day are not too strong and very refreshing - in some all inclusive I have been to, they are either very weak or too strong to enjoy. They is a great variety of cocktails to try, too, and even some great mocktails. The only thing I was not a fan of was the wine. - Food: Having 7 a la Carter restaurants, food trucks, pizza takeaways, plus the buffet spoilt us for choice. We only ate in the buffet once in the evening, once during the day, and the for breakfast. All the food was great. There can be longish waits for restaurants as you cannot reserve. We liked that you could not make reservations as it meant we could eat where we fancied and did not have to stick to a plan. If you go down for dinner knowing you will have up to an hour wait, it isn’t a big deal. You can just have a cocktail or two and enjoy each other’s company. We had room service one night. This was fine. Not great quality but no worse than a takeaway. - Staff: people are people. Some were fantastic, some average, and some incredibly grumpy. They are quite informal and do things on Caribbean time. Again, if you expect that, then it isn’t a big deal. - Sea and sand: there was seaweed. It is a hazard of going in the sea. Not a big deal and the staff keep the beach pretty clear of it. You can borrow snorkelling gear for free from the resort which is a great choice as there is so much marine life. We say rays, lobster, star fish, and so much more. We enjoyed ourselves we booked a stay in Royalton Bavaro as soon as we got back. General: - Our room had slight wear and tear in places but that did not detract from our stay. - Some guests (they generally seemed to be American, but that is not to say it was all Americans) were exceptionally rude to the staff and towards other guests. They seemed to treat the staff as if they were not people. It was uncomfortable to watch. We are generally chilled on holiday but a fair amount of the guests wanted everything right then and there with no please or thank you and seemed to find themselves more important than other guests and staff alike. Maybe this is a culture thing, or maybe we were just unlucky enough to encounter a lot of rude people, either way, I don’t know how some of the staff kept their temper. - I was ill after eating in one of the restaurants. I do think it was my meal. However, my partner ate the same meal and was fine. The rest of the stay was great in that respect, and It is really no different from eating elsewhere. - I had been super excited to have a jacuzzi bath however it was simply too hot to bother! - Royalton have a theme song. It irritated the life out of me while I was there but now I kind of miss it.

    Royalton Negril - DISAPPOINTING

We have visited a Royalton before and thinking Jamaica Negril would really live up to standards but how wrong we were. We had chosen to stay for two weeks and upgrade to Diamond Club which in other hotels meant you could only access certain areas...not here. Even if you paid for Diamond, you got the swim up pool but they let anyone eat at the DC restaurants, use the pool etc. We asked for a room with no interconnecting door and in a quiet area...we moved 5 times as they couldn't fulfil two simple requirements. I know Jamaica is rowdy but you really don't expect to pay Caribbean prices for something you would experience in Ibiza. Our holiday rep was useless and rude. We complained to her (when you could actually catch her there) and she did nothing. We only got moved as we went direct to the hotels management but everyone else made us feel like we were a pain. We did meet the rep at the welcome meeting, probably only 3 times the whole two weeks we were there...then we were made aware we had to pay 70 dollars to leave the island at the airport as tax which no one knew anything about!! The restaurant food was poor. Everytime you went into the restaurant you smelt like you had been frying the food as there was no extraction. Every drink you had was just full of rum, even when you asked for only a little. The coffee shop was bad, no trained staff besides one poor girl who was rushed off her feet. We eventually got moved to a quieter area where the gardeners chose to strim the same patch of green by our room each day, everyday! And our neighbours liked to smoke weed which you could smell in our room! Don't ever believe a word anyone tells you, they tell you anything to shut you up and stop you complaining. The butlers are the same, only come around when its nearing the end of the holiday for a tip. They never book a restaurant at the right time, calling it Jamaican-Time...I would call it useless!! We put a complaint in with TUI during the holiday and it took 8 months to actually sort it out. It hasn't put me off a Royalton as I love their layout and tidiness but I would never return to Jamaica. This hotel is fine if you want to party 24/7, get drunk at 10am and stay drunk all day and don't really care whether you eat cold food.

    Amazing family vacation

We visited The Royalton from March 2020 right at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was travelling alone with 3 children aged almost 2, 4, and 9. It was our 2nd time at the Royalton in Negril. Last year, we stayed in Diamond Club and this year my budget wouldn't allow for it so we had a regular room. I requested ocean view and was nervous I might not get it plus I really liked the diamond club beach. We ended up getting an AMAZINg Oceanview room overlooking the kids pool in building 4. It was the perfect location for me as it was right beside the awesome kids club and kids pool and a short walk to all the restaurants. We were ALL so happy! The hotel made us feel safe and relaxed despite what was going on in the world. On the Wednesday of our trip we found out that the hotel would be closing on Friday for 2 -3 months due to COVID-19. We were scheduled to fly home on Friday but those that were leaving after Friday would be moved to the other Royalton in Montego Bay. The last 3 days weren't as fun mostly because I was anxious about the journey home alone with 3 kids. I had a meltdown in the Sunwing office on Wednesday morning. The staff were super empathetic and reassured me I would be safe. I can't wait to return to Royalton Negril when this is all over! A special shout out to Damion the gardener who fixed my stroller's flat tire in less than an hour and to Jordaine the lifeguard who helped me supervise my kids when they all wanted to be in different pools and to the awesome staff at the kids club. This place is paradise!

    Careless Hotel

We were at the Royalton Negil in March. Let me start with the positives. Most of the staff were terrific. The wait staff was mixed but there were some fabulous standouts especially Leanna Hylton. Rory at the Gourmet Marche and bartender Leggon were also fantastic. But the place needs a good cleaning. Placemats, dishes, utensils, and tables were regularly dirty. Diamond club guests and regular guests are treated so noticeably different starting with dinner. Diamond club members can make reservations at the restaurants but the other guests were either turned away or had 2+ hour wait times. At dinner time the loud, obnoxious “music” permeated the place. There was no escaping it. All for really mediocre food. The Scoops cafe was supposed to close at 10 but regularly ran out of ice cream before 9. The staff in the gym was terrific but they don’t control the A/C so it was murderously hot. It’s run down and too small for the size of the resort. We will not be coming back to any Royalton needless to say!

    Wonderful holiday

Recently returned from the Royalton and I have to say we had a beautiful holiday at a beautiful resort. Arrived after a 10 and a half hour flight due to a delay at Gatwick and then endured a 2 hour transfer due to the time, the only reason I wasn’t in tears of exhaustion was due to our wonderful driver Andre of Luxurious Carib Tours. Once we arrived at around 8pm Jamacian time (1am uk time) check in was very quick but on arriving at our junior suite, the cot we had requested and emailed ahead to ensure was ready for our 16month old son was not in our room, tearful with exhaustion and concerned for my child I was not amused. The cot arrived 20 minutes later after a call to reception. Unfortunately the journey made my poor son very sick and he ended up vomiting throughout the night. Our suite was lovely, clean and spacious although the bathtub plug didn’t seem to seal and took about an hour to empty but we didn’t mind this, certainly not something to complain about. The children’s pool where we spent most of our time was fun and a real highlight for my son, he adored it as well as the lifeguard and pool attendant Wilton who was so warm and lovely, a real gent. The other main pool was always lively and had a fantastic view of the ocean being an infinity pool. The beach was beautiful however throughout the day guests thought nothing of littering, leaving cigarette butts, glasses and plastic bottles littered all over which the staff worked very hard to clear away but with treble guests ratio to staff it was sometimes a losing battle however each evening and morning it was spotless. We hired a beach Cabana 4 times (no. 5) which was stunning & a teeny bit of a private safe space for us as a family which we really enjoyed. You get the cabana from 10am until 5pm with your personal server who will set up the cabana with towels etc, bring you a cooler box with soft drinks and beer, bring you drinks that are not in your cooler such as cocktails and bring your lunch straight to the cabana making you feel like a vip. Our server was called Codeisha and she was super professional, sweet and efficient. thank you Codeisha. The restaurants were really good, the main buffet restaurant was awesome to be honest and the jerk chicken and jerk sauce were out of this world, morning omelettes, and crepes (all day) were heavenly as was the seafood. As for the al carte restaurants, we enjoyed them all although the Japanese one was a bit of a let down with flavourless food, we ate outside as the teppanyaki part was a bit loud for our toddler, the starters and sushi were really good but the mains had no flavour. Our favourite were the steak house (Hunters) and a West Indian (calypso), the steak house (hunters) did a good quality, super tasty ribeye and the West Indian (Calypso) was just stunning, crab cakes and coconut crumb snapper beautiful... my mouth thought it had died and gone to heaven. The staff in all the restaurants were warm, friendly, professional and open to any requests as my little boy ate very little and often off menu, which they would have to source from other places. We were super grateful for this. Thanks guys. We had a few small issues as always with any holiday at a large hotel but Kimberly from guest relations was a dream and beyond helpful and professional, she smoothed everything over, checking on us throughout as did the assistant manager after an issue with drunk guests fighting next door to us. This was resolved within minutes of a call to reception, a good hotel is not one without any issues as they’re are always going to be some in a space where you have lots of people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds but how well and quickly you deal with them, I have to say they dealt with them well. Finally I have to give a shout out to Rayon in the main buffet restaurant, he was warm, knowledgeable and amazing with my toddler who can be a handful at mealtimes, he made his section of the restaurant feel like a slice of home, he knew what we wanted before we did, the guy is a superstar. Secondly a shout out to Trey, one of the entertainment team who my son took a shine to. Trey was awesome and a real delight to be around, my son adored him. Entertainment was really good and the shows were fantastic, we had some drama when a flaming instrument came flying off the stage towards my son in his pram, the staff were really sorry and super apologetic and to fair it was a freak accident, I hope the show is allowed to continue with some extra safety checks. We were gutted to leave and will return one day when the world is back to normal following this Covid-19 upset. I just hope all the wonderful staff at this beautiful hotel get to return to their jobs as they make this hotel as does the high quality produce used in all their cooking, 1 niggle..... cocktails without Wray & nephew ..... hmmmm
