oct. family vacation
this hotel has everything for the family. nice big pool, a salty beach lagoon for calm experience in salt water and playing in the sand for my grand children. the beach was nice and the warning flags kept us on our toes when in the water with the waves. we saw turtles swimming close to us and also seals laying on the beach. the service is fantastic and will do everything to accommodate your needs. if you have room requests please let them know ahead of time. Call the hotel direct! the website will reserve the room but call for special requests.

Wonderful experience with great staff!
The hotel was exceptional from arrival to departure. We were very sad to leave and will be back. The hotel and room was very clean and the staff were very welcoming. If we wanted to we could have spent the entire stay on site. They have everything needed.

Mahalo Grand Hyatt
I am very stingy about my 5 star reviews, but this is a 5 star resort. The grounds are spectacular. Lush tropics, water everywhere, a lazy river, water slide and adult only pools. The grounds are just beautiful. You enter via an open air lobby. Staff is very friendly, from the concierge to housekeeping. Learn how to say Aloha and Mahalo a lot. The grounds are quite large and spread out, which some may not appreciate. As for the rooms, they are spacious and ours, which was 6135, seemed updated with a view of the pools and ocean. There was plenty of storage space and a lot of power outlets. Lighting overall was good and the bed was very comfortable. We had a coffee maker and refrigerator. As a nice touch, you will receive refillable water bottles to be used at their water filling stations. Each building also has free laundry, including supplies (the dryer gets very hot, so consider a much lower setting than usual). There is also a balcony with a couple of chairs. The hallways themselves are a bit dated and it looks like the carpeting in the common areas could use a refresh. Each day, the hotel has vendors selling various items in the main lobby and there are many stores within the hotel. This is not a property where you will want to go into the ocean, though, as it is dangerous, but they took care of that by having an enclosed lagoon with sand. There are more accessible beaches not far away. They do have shuttle to Poipu, but this is a place where you will want your own car. Self parking is included in your resort fee, or it is $40/day for valet. Restaurants are good, but pricey. We did the luau and it was very nice with very good food (avoid the poi. Most people hate it). The staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. One complaint is the cost for cabanas is quite high. We did it one day, and it does come with set up and a bucket of water and fruit drinks. There are nicer lounges near the base of the lazy river. The ones in the adult pool area are okay, but not as nice. Overall, it was a terrific, though expensive, experience. If we go back to Kauai I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

Disappointing Service
Our stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai was underwhelming due to several service and accessibility issues. Upon check-in around 9 pm, the front desk forgot to provide us with the activities schedule. The accessible room we booked for my wheelchair-bound father was missing a shower chair, which we had to request separately. When I tried to call housekeeping for dental kits, there was no answer, and the same happened when I called the front desk. I ended up walking to the front desk to make the request, only to receive a rude comment from the housekeeping staff about asking for everything at once, rather than being offered any additional help. Things got worse when we discovered after two days that the fridge wasn't working, causing food to spoil. This led to my daughter getting a fever and diarrhea. Maintenance later found that the fridge had been plugged into a non-working socket, which shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place. Dinner at Tidepools was also disappointing. The service felt rushed, the food was overly salty, and the waiter forgot the complimentary truffles that other guests were receiving. We only got them after asking. Waiter also didn't mention there was wheelchair service available while my father was using his wheelchair as a seat at the table, it was only when I went up to the front to request that they admit they have this service available. Poor attention to details at a 5 star hotel with the wait staff at a nice restaurant. Finally, upon check-out at 6 am, we couldn’t reach the front desk via the hotel room phone for a bellman and had to go there in person. The lack of service throughout the stay, especially at night and early morning, was frustrating. Overall, the experience was far from what we expected at a Grand Hyatt property.

Kauai Hyatt Vacation
I am a loyal Hyatt member and have stayed at Hyatt hotels all over the world. Mexico, USA, Europe, Iceland, etc. and have always been super impressed with them. Even from a 3 star stay in Tucson, Arizona but this Hyatt made me feel like a pheasant. The check in process was absolutely horrible, she was extremely rude and she made me feel like she works on commission and all she was interested in was to upgrade me for a cost. We had issues with our room. I always book two for my party of 5 and one room overall was okay and the other one was disgusting. We had a huge ant problem, the cleaning crew manager was great. They came down right away and changed out our sheets and sprayed something. The overall manager I think Kristin was her name never couldn't care less. She was going to give us a call but still waiting on that call from her. So sad about the stay. We have stayed at the Grand Playa Del Carmen and wow, was that a lovely stay but this one was SO disappointing
