Nice But Won’t Go Back
My spouse and I visited GFA for ten nights during Valentines 2020. We were in master suite-925. This room gave an amazing view...but all of the rooms have a beautiful view. Suite 925 is spacious and nice; the bed was very comfy, nice big bathroom and amenities. 925 was one level above the Sky Bar. The Sky Bar is incredibly loud at night. If you are on vacation for relaxation, request a low level room or one on the 13th or 14th floor — which is away from the pool and sky bar areas. If you love loud music and partying until the wee hours of the morning—this room and resort is for you. We enjoyed watching whales and dolphins from the room and cabanas. Highly suggest going on the whale watching tour. We take a couple of international vacations a year. We stay at adult only-all inclusive resorts. My favorite resorts are Secrets, Sandals and Eldorado Royale Casitas so I compare to those. I love the rooms at casitas and the beach at Secrets Maroma Secrets Akumal and Sandals St Lucia. This resort has been my least favorite (out of about 15 resorts) for a few reasons. It is a skyscraper type building which I don’t care for. It has minimal beach front and a small area to swim. There are warnings of sea erchants. We are puddle ducks and love to enjoy the ocean but this time we didn’t swim once in the ocean. I love large resorts with meandering, lush and tropical trails that give the secluded feeling. When we go on vacation we love to enjoy quiet-down time from our hectic work life. We love our fun times and drinking but this place is party central! There is no quiet place at GFA to escape to. We learned from several couples while walking the beach sporadic times of the day that many walked the beach in efforts to get away from the loud “boom-boom”music. The loud music starts late morning. We left the resort nearly everyday to get away. A few times were for excursions, however, we found ourselves loving downtown and the quiet-fun time together so we visited town on four separate days and two days at Mismaloya Beach to avoid the party zone and loudness. The employees at the resort were great! Most of the employees speak English. I did download an application for language translation which came in handy in town and with Uber drivers. My favorite resort employee is Alfredo; he is a pool/cabana guy and is truly a hurricane on wheels! He is a great people person and fantastic at his job. Look him up and sit in his area—-you won’t regret it. ^Marco-hotel concierge is to be commended. His heart is in the right place—to make each guests experience perfect and to prosper the resort. He is a jewel to the owner of this resort and I hope she/he knows that. ^Eleil-bell man is great also. He set us up with one of his friends, Sa’uel (UBER) that took us under his wing. Sauel took us to other beach areas for massages, convenient stores to pick up snacks, shopping, excursions, etc. You meet as strangers and leave PV with friends. There is a bit of a chair game that occurs here and it starts early. Our room came with a cabana each day and we enjoyed it tremendously! The chairs/cabanas are incredibly close together so not much privacy. We enjoyed two foam parties while here. Don’t miss them!! They are so much fun!! Food**Diner-we enjoyed the Italian and Asian. We loved the chicken Parmesan at Italian. We are not sushi lovers but I did enjoy the tempura sushi. *Breakfast is mediocre and needs some attention. *Lunch (serve yourself) leaves much to be desired. The pool menu is the way to go—buffalo wings are very good! The cheeseburgers are extremely good and made with real beef. ***Starbucks—one of the refrigerated sections are desserts that you can enjoy at no charge. The rest of the menu comes with a Starbucks charge. Must Dos & Suggestions- ***Los Muerotos Brewing Company in town for brick oven pizza, salads and cold brewed beer are very good! We went there three times during our stay. UBER costs around $4 to go into town; worth every penny! Mismaloya, Beach for cheap massage, good food, nice beach and nice down time. This is also the place where Night of The Iguana was filmed. The movie, Predator, was also filmed very close. I believe there is a tour for Predator scenes. Would I recommend this resort? If you want a relaxing vacation—NO! If you are young, love loud music and are a party animal this is the place for you
Two couples went to celebrate my husband’s 50th. It was absolutely perfect. We paid the couple hundred extra dollars for the VIP. We loved it! Might be my fave part of this trip. We were whisked past the lobby up to the 13th (?) floor VIP lounge for our check in. They brought us drinks and appetizers while we sat on couches. They explained about the hotel’s amenities. This lounge is only open to the VIP people. (We saw someone get politely asked to leave cuz they weren’t VIP. ) we started everyday here for what we called “1st breakfast”! Usually only a few other guests there. The waiter remembered what we liked to drink and brought it to our little table out on the deck overlooking the ocean. The little breakfast was good: eggs, meats, pastries, fruits, yogurt. We often started with mimosas—cuz we could. We usually wandered in again early evening for made to order sushi which was fabulous. We got 1 free poolside cabana rental which comes with a 20 minute foot massage. Heavenly. No problem getting chairs around the pool. I never went down that early to put towels out. I had been worried when I read that the pool area is shaded till the afternoon. That wasn’t a problem at all. There is a deck with a bar and hot tubs that get sun early. And, it’s still warm enough in the shade in the morning. We used the kayaks one morning and saw a dolphin not far from us! The beach area is a little rocky, but we swam in the ocean there a couple times. It was nice. We never ate at dinner or lunch buffet. Lunch we usually had the pool waiter bring us a burger or nachos. Dinner we went to the fancier restaurants each night. They were great! More authentic type food. Don’t expect a pile of stir fry at Asian or pile of spaghetti at Italian or pile of burrito at Mexican. It was all well-plated and delicious. Also, one night we had sunset dinner on the beach downtown. Wonderful! There’s really not much nightlife at the hotel. Us “old people” did go to the lounges at night. But they’re not pumping nightclubs. We went in to town to the Malecon 2 nights for the open air live music. Totally safe!! The hotel itself is spotless and the staff wonderful. We never wanted for anything. On the way home we were discussing what they could have improved. We honestly couldn’t think of one thing.
A holiday to remember.
Firstly I would like to thank all the hotel staff for making it a holiday to remember. Especially the entertainment team, which must have been really hard as there were at sometimes only around 6 - 12 people around the swimming pool. The management team were brilliant, especially the young manager who was on duty from 14th March till 22nd March (think his name was George). In the restaurants and bars that were open the service and quality of the meals was excellent. We saw hump back whales, dolphins and turtles from our balcony, the hotel lobby bar and the poolside where there is a bell to ring to tell others. On the down side though we got eaten alive with mosquito. Again many thanks to all the staff at the hotel for looking after us, under the difficult times of the covid 19 virus.
Destination Wedding - Great Venue!
My girlfriend and I traveled here with about 30 other (mostly young) adults from all over the country for her brother's destination wedding. We stayed 6 days/5 nights in Puerto Vallarta from 11/6 to 11/11. This resort is gorgeous with incredible views and right on the water. There are a lot of different bars and restaurants, which have outstanding drinks and food. We especially liked the Cevicheria for quick, quality mid-day meals (shout out to Daniel for being an outstanding host there). We tried almost all the bars and they all served great drinks. The pool side bar was super convenient and David was memorable and awesome bartender. The other main perk was the entertainment staff, which included Emilio, Juan, Roberto, Abraham, and Antonella. We did water aerobics, volleyball, relay competitions, horseshoes, ping pong, backgammon, and much more. They were inclusive, hilarious, and all-around a good time to be around. Everything else about our stay was exceptional from service to demeanor to politeness of staff. I would love to come back here soon!
Ok but not 5 star
Just back from Porta Vallarta Grand Fiesta Americana. Arrived at the hotel all looked good, shown the front desk and checked all all very smoothly. They gave us a sheet of paper with all the restaurants and bars opening time on and the WiFi code what they didn't say was that it changes every Monday, we found that out ourselves. We were told our room number (319) down stairs, it was a junior suite with limited sea view. I thought going down stair it was going to be limited, what a surprise when we opened the door two double beds and a day couch. Also on the balcony we could see the whole bay , great. What they also dont tell you is that they have conventions in the hotel with about 150/200 delegates . Not as that is a problem its when they go en mass to a bar or restaurant you have to queue for 45 mins to an hour to get in then another 45 mins for your food. Also in the day taking over some of the pool areas. The room maid service was hit and miss, it was 5 days before we got clean sheets, the floor not swept every day, and each day different towels missing , face flannels, shower mat you get the drift. On speaking to other holiday makers they had the same problem. There was a coffee machine in the room they left coffee but no milk/creamer you had to ring the front desk every day for some. The staff in the restaurants and the beach bar boys were great and work very hard. On saying all this we did have a good holiday, it was the accumulation of little thing that spoilt it and turn it from a 5 star to a 4. There are better much better 5 star hotels in Mexico having been to the Rivera Maya twice before. Would i recommend this hotel No Would i go back No
