A well run smaller resort worth a check out!

A smaller well run property with friendly staff in all sectors. A pleasant surprise from other larger all inclusive resorts where service and food offerings can be spotty or elusive. Food selection and quality was excellent with many fresh offerings. The room was very clean with excellent service daily. Nice to be able to leave the resort to walk into San Jose and along the Malecón. Our second time here and plan on returning again next year.

    It's . . . fine

This is a Pepsi resort-no Coke/ Diet coke. The room was clean and nice. The fridge did not work at all. The water took a LONG time to get hot, like 6+ minutes in the shower. There were some random water pressure issues and brown water at times. There is no fan in the bathroom, and you throw toilet paper in the trash which can lead to some unpleasant bathroom smells at times. The entertainment is 9-10. It was audible from all rooms. The wifi was slow. Food: I read reviews here as was hopeful it would be "good enough." I don't have high standards. But. . . The breakfast was pretty good, 4 juices, hot mexican food options, yogurt, omlette station, pastries. Lunch was not good at either the poolside restaurant or the buffet/Mercado. At poolside- cold french fries, simple plain burger that was overdone. Pizza looked like cheap microwave pizza. At Mercado, picked over at times, not very hot. Dinner was similarly not great. At Luna it was better, but steak was overdone, soup was not hot, dessert was the same cakes they had at the Mercado. The presentation was good. Nothing interesting, but also not simple food well executed. It wouldn't take much to step it up: Ask how steak is wanted, heat the soup up, fresh-fry the french fries. Add ice cream or soft serve for dessert. Have fruit available at dinner. Drinks were not strong, which was fine for me. The adults pool was warm, which was nice since it was cold. Nice beach area. You are able to walk in the water and up and down the beach, and it is pretty. Overall, not worth it to me as all inclusive. We ate elsewhere for 50% of our meals, so it probably would have been cheaper to stay someplace else.

    Average resort

It was our family's first time in Cabo, but not new to Mexico and other resorts. I had mixed feelings after leaving this resort- some good, and some bad. First and foremost, I want to shout out to Alejandro at the adult-only pool- He made the best drinks and was the friendliest person on staff that we ran across. Give this man a raise NOW! I am giving this resort an extra star because of him. Food- Buffet was Okay. Nothing to write home about. The dinner by reservation was fine, but as a vegetarian there will be zero options for you. If you're vegetarian- just stick to the buffets. Service for water/drinks at the buffet were very slow each day. We would almost be done with our meals the time they brought our waters out. They should just change it to self-serve and save everyone time. Service- Service was also very average. Check-in times take a while, and I found most of the staff do not understand English which really delayed communication during our stay. Our family noticed some of the Mexican workers talking about us Americans, and sometimes laughing at us. I wont use the word racist to describe this, but it was noticeable that they didn't like Americans. Housekeeping- They were decent, our room got cleaned and refreshed daily. Maintenace could use improvement, however. Certain things could use paint, tiles in the adult pool are broken and falling apart, etc. Kids- this was a shock to us because on the site we bought from, said this was an 18+ resort, just to find lots of littles everywhere. Must have been a typo on the site, but either way caught us off guard. If you have kids, this wont be the place for you as there will be nothing for them to do except build sandcastles and swim in the pool (Not ocean). Ocean- Dont expect to swim on this ocean front. Too cold and rough. Smoking/Vaping- Not enforced by staff even if its right in front of them. Very disappointing. One thing that was disappointing was the old fashioned key-card for your room. Our last resort we stayed in it was built into your wrist band. I misplaced my room card twice and always had to check my pockets to make sure I still had it. Decameron should look into something more convenient and up-to-date. Also no hot tub. They have an adult-only pool but the water is warm(ish) at high noon, after 4pm when the sun goes down, it gets cold. Overall our stay was OKAY. You wont be blown away, but you wont leave disappointed either.

A Good Resort for the Money

This was my second visit to Decameron. I was there in January of 2015 so essentially ten years ago, A lot of it was familiar. First, let's take care of the confusion. This resort has changed its name from Royal Decameron to Grand Decameron. They are the same place. What's confusing is that while marketed as Grand Decameron, the Royal Decameron name is still emblazoned on the front of the hotel. Many years ago, this was a resort where clothing was removed and this was prior to 2015. There were still remnants left, at that time, from those days such as suggestive artwork around the hotel. This has been removed but take a look at your shower door and you will see a naked man and woman entwined together. It's in good taste and don't worry, it's unlikely that the kids will notice this. Somer good changes include free Wi-Fi and the safe in the room is free as well. Both of these used to command an additional price. My WestJet Vacations itinerary still stated that there would be a $3USD charge per day for use of the safe but just disregard that piece of incorrect information. One thing that hasn't changed is that the safes are not actually bolted down, so use your own discretion regarding how secure you believe your valuables will be in the room. My safe failed on first attempt but luckily, I tested it before putting anything into it because they were unable to fix it and wanted to cart it away. The resort only has one buffet and one à la carte restaurant so you have limited eating choices. The à la carte actually serves as a snack bar during the day but while it's labelled as a snack bar, it's a sit-down meal with service from a menu. The resort was not busy during our December stay so it was that much more pleasant, not having any food line-ups. Food is okay with sufficient variety. There is the typical entertainment activities during the day and an evening entertainment show. The adult pool is nice. It involves climbing stairs as it is elevated but here you get a nice view of the beach and ocean. It also has a swim-up bar as does the main pool below. The pool is considerably warmer than the others. You can walk to the old town of San José del Cabo which is nice but it will take you 30-45 minutes. You can also take a bus or cab. Overall, I would say that the resort has improved over the years. You get a reasonable return for your money in the form of a very pleasant vacation and reasonably good service. The water at the beach is a bit rough but you can swim with care. The pools are preferable. If you like to sit on the beach, there is a very walkable massive beachfront area. The resort's website lists a mini bar but there is no mini bar. Your fridge will remain empty of beer and soft drinks. One large bottle of water is provided per day. This is just a summary of a nice resort. If you want a lot of variety in food and a selection of restaurants including refreshments in your room, this would not be the resort for you. However, you can get plenty of whatever you need in the resort. There was no issue with securing chairs at the pool. They do not use towel cards which is a plus. Just give them your room number. I would recommend this resort as a good choice if you can get it at a good price. If you are lucky, you will get to see hatching turtles right on the beach at the resort.

Great time at Royal Decameron Los Cabos

Very fun and clean resort. All the staff was helpful and friendly. Fun pool side activities all day. Hardly ever waited for drinks or food. Highly recommend for a nice getaway. Alejandro Lopez was a great bartender, very kind and a joy to be around. "Cantinero favorito" as we liked to say. Thank you for a great vacation!!!
