The Hawaiian Canoe Experience teaches guests Hawaiian traditions while offering a fun adventure. Participants learn the basics of paddling, as well as the history of the canoe and its importance to Hawaiian heritage. Used by native Hawaiians to cross the rough channels between the islands, the outrigger canoe was built out of koa and other hard native woods. Not only an instrument of fishing and sustenance gathering, the outrigger became the long distance means by which Hawaiians, and the greater Polynesian society projected both settlements and conquests. The Hawaiian Canoe Experience fills up quickly and advanced reservations are required.

However you choose to spend your time, be sure to open your mind and your heart to the Hawaiian culture. Hawaiians believe that we need to be conscious and grateful of all the things around us: our health, our family, and nature. The incredible culture is based on the fundamental principles of love, support, hospitality, and giving without the expectation of receiving.

    One of the best!

This honestly may be one of my favorite resorts ever. Lucky enough to make a return trip and to stay again in one of their amazing villas. Though certainly not cheap, you get a lot of value and amazing service and a ton of space. Traveled with 4 people and had a 2 BR/2 bath villa (nearly 2000 sq ft). Nice lei greeting and easy check-in (had booked oceanview and were lucky to get upgraded to oceanfront), transported to villa with bags in golf cart. Valet parking included in villa rate. Also included is daily breakfast for 4 in their Kea Lani restaurant. There was a nice welcome basket of goodies and some essentials like milk, fresh fruit, banana bread, juice, creamer, etc. stocked in the the fridge as well. Villas also include nice outdoor seating for 6, a plunge pool, 2 lounge chairs + 2 pool chairs, and a grill. Inside, there is a living area, table for 6, full kitchen with stove, full-size fridge, combo microwave/convection oven, dishwasher, and all of the cutlery and equipment you need. We warmed up/cooked several meals in house and stocked up on groceries from the local Safeway and got take out from a couple of local restaurants (plenty close by). Full room service is also available if you want to get food from the resort. Full size washer and dryer also in the room which we used several times. Our last visit was pre-COVID, and since that time, they have renovated/refreshed the interiors of all of the suites and villas. The new furniture and decor is VERY nice and shows clear evidence of upkeep. Their lobby and other spaces are also gorgeous. Service really sets this place apart. Had twice daily housekeeping in the villa - and our primary housekeeper Virgie was outstanding and efficient. Metal water bottles were provided and there are several filling stations around the resort to save waste. Reef-safe sunscreen also provided. Had amazing food in their breakfast buffet and outstanding service from Ashley and Venus who remembered our preferences for drinks and condiments and went out of their way to be helpful each morning. Food in their buffet is quite extensive and filling! Onsite gym is very nice with great equipment. Very nice path along the water which extends from the Kea Lani down past several other luxury resorts. It gets busy but we started each day with a ~2 mile roundtrip walk by the ocean. Beach is very nice and not too crowded. We mostly stayed by our villa and not be the pool which looked busy during the day, but appeared to have plenty of space to lounge (busy large pool + more calm adults-only pool). An outstanding stay really made special by the amazing staff and service - can't wait to return!

Beautiful hotel, perfect for families who want an upscale vacation

We stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani villas for the second time and it was absolutely wonderful for our family. The villa has a private pool that isn't a tiny one, it's 3.5' deep so safe for my younger child, but also it is a wide circlular pool that isn't just a dunk pool, it has plenty of space for floats and multiple people to fit in and have fun. Also the outdoor large wooden table with a long picnic table on one side and 3 chairs on the other side as well as a large outdoor light over the table so that you can sit out there for breakfast and dinner. And you can see the ocean and hear the waves which was lovely. The kitchen is well stocked and fantastic for cooking, and the villa staff provided a list of groceries we could order ahead of time and they were all there ready for us when we arrived. As well having an in villa washer/dryer was so needed when we are going to and from the beach and pools all day. The pools are fantastic too, we didn't use the adult pool but the other pools have multiple upper pools and hot tub and lower pools of varying depths and areas with a waterfall and bridge and basketball hoop for the deeper area and a super fun waterslide between upper and lower pools, I even gave it a try and it was fun for kids and adults I can attest. The restaurants are beautiful, and the food is top notch. From poke bowls to burgers to a lovely and extensive Sunday buffet and from poolside food delivered to your cabana or lounge chairs or fancier options with tablecloths. The staff however are also what REALLY makes this hotel so exceptional. In the early mornings the gardening staff would go by and rake the lawn etc and would see my son and I outside eating breakfast or playing in the pool and they noticed that Eugene was collecting flowers and sticks that would fall on the ground and a gardener came over and gave him some beautiful freshly fallen flowers that we could put in vases. It was so sweet. And every time we took a golf cart from the villa to the lobby to use our rental car etc. the golf cart person was always so friendly, personalized to us, and every time we saw them throughout our stay they remembered us and asked questions about where we had gone that day etc. The beach is beautiful there, the water is so clear. We snorkeled and saw green sea turtles and lots of fish around the volcanic rock reefs just off the beach. The only issue was in the afternoons on both visits the waves do pick up because the wind picks up making it hard for the little ones to be in the water so we would go to our villa pool or the main pools. Overall we will continue to return to this hotel for family visits year after year.

Most relaxing resort on the island.

We just finished a 6 day stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani. We had an amazing time - the room was beautiful, spacious and had a great view of the ocean/sunset that we enjoyed every day. The lobby and pool areas are so relaxing - I never felt like I was bumping into people at the pools and was able to find pool chairs easily. The staff is so attentive, friendly and does everything to ensure that you have a great experience. We came here for our birthdays and we received a treat not only at checkin but on our birthdays. I mentioned in passing to a staff member that the couple above us was yelling to their friends on the balcony - the next day the hotel staff left us an apology note and chocolates. We didn’t hear those guests make a peep again. We did the outrigger canoe tour - it was so fun as we got to jump off the boat and swim with turtles. Cliff even dove into the water to grab some urchins and unis to see up close and feel them walking around on our hands. The beach shack was so chill and set up chairs and umbrellas whenever you wanted - unless it was too windy which is fair. The bartenders were so nice and remember what we liked to drink and even let us get drinks off the happy hour menu at happy hour prices. We left relaxed, happy and overall so glad we stayed here!

    Wonderful Room - Won’t Return

No complaints about the room - it was terrific and loved the vibe in the lobby bar. Nice service and beautiful lobby. Pool experience unfortunately would prevent a return stay. Aside from the unattractive very plain cement walls and little natural beauty, there are far too many cabanas with few available umbrella loungers by pools. A five star hotel should provide ample shade seating without forcing a $400/day cabana rental. It felt intentional and gave the experience a “take advantage of customers” kinda feel. This climate therefore encouraged early am rush to throw belongings on the handful of chairs which i found tacky and unbecoming to a high end resort. Standard cheap vinyl strip loungers were also spread out along a grass lawn away from pools for those not willing to pay cabana fees or not willing to rush to grab a chair by 730am. This is not the first Fairmont property we have experienced using this standard.
