I wish I could give ten stars

Every single encounter we had was better than the last. The property is stunning and serene. The staff could not have been more professional and accommodating. The entire bell staff (esp Brent) was phenomenal. The golf/clubhouse staff was perfection and is the definition of five star service. Big praise for Benny at the Clubhouse Grill and the Mgr at the golf/pro shop whose name I cant recall. We will return just based on their service alone. Every attention to detail was captured and the guest rooms were large and immaculate. I do feel we missed much of the amenities of this amazing property due to COVID but without a doubt we are returning as soon as we are able to enjoy it to the fullest. Job well done FGDM.

    Wonderful Weekend Getaway!

We had a great stay here. The resort is beautiful and the service is outstanding. We had a lovely room that opened up to the Adult Relaxation Pool. Our server, Sabrina did a great job of anticipating our every need. The second day of our stay we rented a cabana and our son and daughter-in-law joined us. It was such a perfect day! Our server Alex was top notch - he went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect. Also many thanks to Rich, the pool manager who stopped by to make sure everything was taken care of. My only negative comment was that the quality of food delivered from room service was disappointing, so maybe that's something that can be improved. Other then that our stay was perfect!

    Beautiful property

Boyfriend and I had a great time. It was a fantastic little mini getaway for our anniversary. It felt like we had the resort all to ourselves and the staff was great! It definitely felt like stepping into a small European country only 2 hours away from LA. My only complaint is that the drink prices aren’t appropriately priced. At the pool, we ordered micheladas and the price for beers are $10 and our Michelalas were $16. If we would had known that adding bloody Mary mix to our drinks made them the same price as hard alcohol we would’ve kept ordering the delicious piña coladas. But the reason why I have to off a star is the milk price. My boyfriend ordered a cup of milk from room service and it was also $16!!! Why??! It’s absurd.

This was a really great stay for our family. We booked through AMEX which came with a number of benefits. I usually have to remember to ask and confirm all the benefits at time of check in and then make sure the additional complimentaries were actually credited to our account at the end of the stay but at the Grand Del Mar, they really make it easy on you. The benefits are already printed out for you in advance and presented to you at check in and automatically applied accurately over the course of your stay. The property itself is beautiful and our Palazzo Suite was amazing. It was so nice to just walk around. Of course we missed out on certain aspects due to the inability to dine and gather indoors, but more to look forward to on our next visit. The service though, is what really stood out to us. Every person we interacted with was so polite, professional, and helpful. From the bell staff, valet, front desk, concierge, pool attendants, bartender and server at the terrace above Amaya, servers at the s'mores event, and room service staff - just so exceptional. They really made you feel special. Such uniformity in superior service across the board like that really speaks volumes about their hiring and training of the right people. You just rarely see that even at other premium luxury resorts. Overall it was a just a perfect stay for our family. We were really happy the entire weekend and had zero complaints. We will look forward to returning.

    Doing Covid-cation right!

A much needed break and desire to drive SOMEWHERE took us to the GDM for a long weekend. What a gorgeous retreat! If you haven’t been there you MUST! The driveway to the hotel inevitability has everyone in the car saying “where are we? Italy?” It really is just that great.. Luxury and care starts at the valet, the guys magically knowing your name (obviously the guard station before that driveway Gabe them the heads up), a quick temperature scan and Check-in.. the front desk is always kind and professional. The boys and I usually hit the little shop for a gelato before going up.. but of course they don’t do that anymore.. also gone are the amazing butter croissants, replaced now by a local baker and not good. Although the previous baked goods were draw droppingly amazing.. Turns out we were visiting the second week of reopening so there were some tweaks.. I was assured by ABUKAR - the Prince of the Hotel - that these little details are being looked at.. So beautiful walking around, people with their little dogs.. feels genuinely like another country. the glorious indoor spaces are more or less closed, giving the many terraces a starring role. We had tennis lessons from Lynn and she is such a talented teacher.. I’m not kidding when I say I’d consider driving up more often just to have my stubborn 11 year old take regular classes! The biggest disappointment for me has always been with the restaurant Amaya.. they do not offer specials so if you are staying 4 nights you are going to get mighty bored. Also, it closes from 3-5 so a late lunch or pre dinner snack are forced at the pool.. it’s a hotel. it should be open with some kind of a basic menu throughout the day.. and offer seasonal or fresh choices daily.. There’s Addison but that’s a three month wait and a destination dinner.. It’s an amazing place! I love coming back here! Abukar always makes us feel special! You gotta jump in the car and come!
