I've been dreaming about going back ever since we left! I visited the first week of December with my partner. We stayed in a swim up suite- non club. I requested a suite in building 4 before we arrived as I had done some research on the buildings and wanted something private and quiet- and they delivered! We loved waking up each morning looking at the spa and hearing the peaceful spa music. Restaurants/Food: Breakfast was awesome. The buffet was under renovation when we were there so I'm sure its even better than it was, but it was still great- just a little squishy. We loved having breakfast at Lobster House as it was table service and they had more upscale dishes. We also did room service breakfast once we was great. We would commonly go to the coffee shop as well which was great for fresh juices, pastries, sandwiches and all the coffee drinks you could want. Lunch: We went to Las Olas almost everyday which we regret because we were constantly full and bloated lol the food was good and lots of variety, but it was pub food so nothing special (buffet). The setting is beautiful though, right on the beach. We also went to the Grill once for lunch which was hit and miss. And Lobster House for lunch which was good. Next visit we will probably just stick with breakfast and dinner so we can really make the most of the upscale restaurants. Dinner: We went to all the restaurants besides Agave. ALL the restaurants were great!! And the service at the restaurants was impecable. The "best" restaurants really depend on your taste. Our favourites were Basmati and Spice. We also loved Flavour Market which never seemed to be busy at all! They had amazing charcuterie, chicken skewers, sangria etc. Pools and pool service was great besides the drinks not being strong (see below). The pool staff worked really hard! Some days the service was better than others but I think that just came down to them being understaffed at times. We also moved around the resort so we typically had different servers. Also, sometimes if we said "no" to a round they wouldn't come back for a while which was frustrating if we decided to have a drink or needed a water. The pools were great! I've seen some complaints about the temperature in December but we found it to be perfect! It was hard to find a seat by the swim up bar which kind of sucked because that was where the entertainment and swim up bar was. But, there was always beds and chairs on the beach and in other parts of the resorts. There was not a lot of seaweed on the sand when we went. The sand and water was beautiful to look at. We only went in the water a few times. Really great entertainment day and night! The shows were surprisingly entertaining. Martini bar was the best, the drinks were super tasty and strongest compared to the other bars. Recommendations: -Lobster House: They don't serve Lobster at lunch which is disappointing. More variety in the seafood such as squid, crab etc. -Somewhere for people to drink and party after the entertainment ends (that's not the sports bar) something outside. -Stronger drinks. The drinks were clearly watered down or light pours, which is frustrating when you are ingesting so much sugar and not feeling a buzz from it. The one time we asked for a "double" they said they were already doubles... Plus, I'd prefer not have to ask for a strong drink or a double every time I order a drink. -Beach yoga and pilates! -Pool staff: Check on people who haven't been ordering drinks, they may want to order drinks, water or lunch. -Hot tub open at night or later! Overall, amazing trip, awesome staff and incredible resort! We will tell our friends and be back soon.
Great Trip, Great Property, Great Service
My family and I visited Excellence Riviera Cancun between Mar 7th and March 14th of this year and had a wonderful time. The property is very clean, The staff is a hive of activity in keeping the place clean, making sure you are always happy and the property staff is in constant motion whether it's in the restaurants, at the pools, on the beach or during entertainment. The restaurants were very good and plentiful with tons of choices. I was a little worried about no dinner reservations but they pulled it off easily with very little wait time. A special shout out to our fantastic server EDY JIMENEZ CORDOVA! Every time he saw us he knew exactly what we wanted, liked and always took care of us. He even went as far as getting me some salt and vinegar to take back to my room when I developed a sore throat. The staff was very attentive. Don't be afraid to book a garden room. The layout is such where everything is inward and the pool complex is winding so our 4th floor garden overlooked one section of pool. The property is such that if you wanted to find a quiet spot you could certainly do so and if you wanted to stay up late you could find fun with the club and the sports bar. My family and I have done a bit of traveling over the last few years and the only comparable to this Excellence property are the Iberostar Grand properties. We can't wait to vacation at other Excellence properties when we are able to.
This was our 3rd visit to ERC we stayed in the excellence club ocean front room 7156 for 2 weeks ( 9th - 23rd March )We would like to say a big thank you to Fatima Young the guest relations manager for honouring our request to be allocated this room for our return visit. In the 12 months since our last visit there have been a number of changes made within the resort and all in our opinion for the better. The Kitchen Table has been completely revamped with nicer tables and chairs, new floor covering and an overall brighter feel. The food was as always delicious with excellent choices to suit any taste. We would like at this point to mention our waiter Juan who was an absolute perfect gentleman he greeted us each morning with a lovely smile and a warm welcome. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him. The very talented musicians who were playing their music most mornings in the Kitchen Table made for a lovely ambiance and a very uplifting start to the day. The Grill restaurant has moved indoors with a new look and a new menu. During our stay we ate here twice and were not disappointed both the service and food were of a very high standard. All the restaurants are very good with excellent food and service. Our favourites being Chez Isabel and Basmati My wife is not a fish lover so we did not try The Lobster House but hearing comments from other guests the standards did not disappoint. During our stay we had evening room service 4 times from the extensive menu available 24 hours a day should you so wish. This service was prompt and efficient and the food arrived hot and freshly made and served to us each time by friendly and polite room waiters. The new decking and umbrellas around the club pool have made a big difference. Thankfully some things at the club bar haven’t changed and by this we mean the banter and humour between Moises and Amable their laughter is infectious and their teamwork is a joy to see. We would also like to mention Juan and Margarita at the club bar who along with Moises and Amable work tirelessly throughout the day always with smiles on their faces. We always ate lunch at Las Olas and enjoyed the themed lunches which were always freshly cooked with a good variation of choice. Our special thanks go to Pablo who always had our usual glass of white wine waiting on our table when we sat down to eat our lunch - we never had to ask he just knew !! Fernando, Secondino and Jonathan the excellence concierge work very hard both around the pool and on the beach. They came everyday to check if everything was ok and if we needed anything. Nothing was too much trouble and they kept our sunglasses clean throughout our stay. Thank you guys for your attention. The new sun beds on the beach were very comfortable and there was always an abundance of clean towels. Whilst talking about the beach we would just like to mention the sea weed (not a problem) it is cleared everyday by a team of very hardworking staff who begin this task before 7am each morning and work relentlessly raking and wheelbarrowing the sea weed away. Please pass on our appreciation for this. The Aroma coffee shop made the most delicious coffee along with pastries to die for and was a regular haunt for us during our holiday. The gardens within the hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful and every morning after breakfast we walked the perimeter of the hotel everything is immaculate and the gardeners would always say hello and smile as we passed. All of the housemaids work so very hard and always with a smile on their faces. We would like to say a special thank you to our housemaid Marisol she was an absolute joy and made us smile everyday with the array of towel animals - absolute genius. Enormous efforts were made for the themed night parties along with an extra special effort for St Patrick’s day. We loved the lunchtime music from the group Black Sheep they got everyone in the party mood and we would like like to hope they remain on your entertainment schedule. Due to unprecedented circumstances around Corona virus you made the very difficult but absolutely right decision to close your hotel. Luckily for us your hotel closed on the day we were due to leave so our holiday was not cut short. During the second week of our stay the number of guests reduced day by day and understandably as a result some of the restaurants closed and evening entertainment ceased. Despite this your staff made every effort to make our stay the best it could be and this always came with a smile. We were not disappointed. On our last day when all the housemaids were leaving they walked through the square side by side in their pristine uniforms looking so very smart and so very proud waving goodbye to any remaining guests. One of them turned to us and said “ thank you for coming” this brought tears to our eyes. This hotel is excellent by name and excellent by nature and we would like the management to pass on our sincere thanks to each and every member of staff. You have a team of which you should be very proud. We wish you and your incredible team well during these troubled times and we will most certainly coming back to visit our home away from home once it is possible to do so.
I returned from visit eighteen in early March. Once again the Staff at the hotel went over and above in their efforts to ensure that I had an excellent time during my two week vacation. The meals were superb, my room was kept in immaculate condition, the Staff was friendly and accommodating, the service was fantastic, the pools were clean and the entertainment was good. I see no reason why I need to look at going to another resort. This place has it all. Thank you to everyone who made my stay enjoyable. I can hardly wait for Visit Nineteen.
Read this before you book!
If you're upgrading to a swim-up room, ask for a room that has the most hours of direct sunlight. We didn't know to request this, and our swim-up room (that we paid extra for) did not receive direct sunlight after 12p. The food is good, but nothing to write home about. The highlight was the breakfast buffet with excellent variety. I had an hour massage at the spa. The spa experience was fun, but the actual massage was subpar. I've had $50 massages that were significantly better. I would recommend the spa experience, but if you're looking for a skilled massage therapist to skip it. Would I stay there again? TBD. I didn't love or hate it.
