Girls Trip to Charleston
Great place for a group of friends. The reviews are varied on this one. I enjoyed our stay. The room is a little run down, furniture is nicked up. But it was comfortable, clean, and quiet. The evening drinks and appetizers were great. Central location downtown was what we were after and it did not disappoint. We walked everywhere from the hotel. My friends enjoyed the breakfast each morning - the bacon was excellent!

An awful experience - do not recommend!
As you can see, I gave Embassy Suites by Hilton Charleston Historic District exceptionally bad reviews. I am not a “complainer,” Actually, this is the first time I have submitted a negative review. However, I have many reasons for my assessment. Yes, the hotel is in a great location. However, as the other reviewers recommended the urgent need for immediate and major renovation, I also recommend this as well. The rugs were stained and grungy and doors /walls had major chips. During our last night at the hotel, I woke up with major itching – red marks on my face, hands, and legs. I was unsure if the itching and the red marks were the result of bedbugs or fleas. I observed many guests with very large dogs. I am not criticizing people who bring their dogs as I love dogs, especially my dog which I left at home. How well does the embassy clean the rooms after guests check out with their dogs? Does the hotel check for bedbugs? I was so glad to leave the hotel. The front desk staff either gave misinformation or were dishonest. In planning our Charleston, I learned that parking in Charleston is expensive, and all hotels charge a great deal for hotel parking. After a long drive from Washington, DC, I wanted to see if valet parking might be easier and might be worth paying for the parking (if reasonable) for us. Reception staff member said valet parking was $48 a night and if we parked at a public parking, we would only save about $10. I was bewildered by the staff’s math calculation. In my research for our Charleston trip, I read from two sources that said municipal parking was between $18 to $20 a night. My husband found a parking garage just two blocks from the hotel which charged $24 a night. I am not sure how the reception person arrived at a savings of $10 when we paid for three nights $72 rather than $144 plus tips. Another reason for the poor service rating is: When I arrived home, I could not find a pair of glasses that I had in my suitcase. I called the front desk who switched me to housekeeping. The voice message said the housekeeper manager would get back with me immediately. I am not sure what they mean by “immediately” as of today it has been five days since I left my message. My husband has been a Hilton Diamond member for many years and has been loyal to all of Hilton’s brands hotels. He was extremely disappointed and planned to contact Hilton Corporate. Be sure to read the other reviewers’ comments as I am not alone in not recommending Embassy Suites by Hilton Charleston Historic District.

Terrible for accessibility.
Do not stay here if you need a handicapped room. My daughter reserved one since her husband is in a wheelchair. When we checked in the had given it to someone else. They promised to move them to an accessible room the following day, and they did——-but the shower did not work—the water wouldn’t turn on. Both needed up having to shower in my room. My son in law could barely get in the bathroom and couldn’t turn his wheelchair around. Totally unacceptable.

An embarrassment to the Hilton portfolio of hotels
The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location - close to King Street shopping. Other than that, it’s pathetic. While I appreciate that it’s in Charleston’s ‘historic district’, it appears that the hotel hasn’t been updated since shortly after the Civil War. Everything about it is incredibly worn and outdated, from the carpets to the furniture to the peeling wallpaper to the rust and stains around the shower to the TVs that have to be at least 15 years old. And if the condition of the hotel isn’t bad enough, our room was without water for several hours due to a leak on the first floor that caused them to turn off the hotel’s water. Thank God we were only staying at this hotel for one night — otherwise, we would’ve moved to a different hotel. I’ve been a loyal Hilton Honors Diamond member for roughly 20 years, and this is one of the worst Hilton properties I’ve stayed at. It’s absolutely unbelievable that they’re charging $350+ per night for this hotel — it’s not worth more than $100-$125/night.

Awful accommodations- needs major renovation
Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The hotel is OLD and in bad need of full renovation. Carpets, walls, bathrooms, furniture and the beds were awful, dirty and downright ugly. The furniture is banged up, chipped, chairs were filthy and the bed mattresses had springs that poked you. DO NOT BOTHER staying here.
