Counting the days until the next vacation!
We arrived for vacation number 16 on Nov 7 for 2 weeks. There was a very special welcome greeting when we arrived which was spectacular! I am proud to say we were the first Canadians to arrive since the Covid Shut downs. We knew there would be some changes because of the pandemic and we were so impressed by the safety and sanitation procedures they have put in place. Everyone (both staff and guests) took it in stride and seemed to adapt with ease. Another area of change was the menu. I was sad to know that the menus were changing and that I could no longer order my "usual" at certain restaurants but quickly became happy again when I enjoyed some of the new dishes! Spicy stuffed Jalapeno Peppers! Delicious meat lasagna! Guacamole and a variety of sauces offered with your barbeque meat.....outstanding! A shout out to Raul Salazar and Jose Martinez, the new food and beverage management team and the new chef Daniel. Something I would like to share is that on our second night we went to Oceana for dinner. I was shocked when Portofino manager Jose Vizcarra appeared at my table with an ice cold Bud Light for me. I was so happy to see him! Not only did he remember my favorite drink but he had arranged to have my “usual” meal made for me! How's that for amazing! That is just an example of the kindness of the management and the staff. Thank you to our special Dreams and family! Thank you Portofino staff Jose Vizcarra ,Paola, Noe, Martin ,Arturo and Ramon. Hector , Chief Concierge, Monserrat, 7th floor concierge,. Bartenders Efren Gomez, Arturo, Armondo and Felipe. Waiters and waitresses, housekeeping staff (rooms were immaculate as always) and a special thank you to Gerardo Bobadilla Almaraz! Met him a while back when he was our waiter on the beach. I asked for a spicy ceasar. It was the best one I had ever had. He had made it himself. Get him to make you one. You will love it! Bellboys Jesus , Miguel, Ascencion, Carlos and our AWESOME friend Francisco! Jesus in the Coco Cafe and everyone I have not mentioned! See you all again soon! XOXOXOX
Dreams Puerto Vallarta 2020
From the moment we arrived we were spoiled by the amazing service staff. Johanthan and Agustin waited on our family at several of the resorts dining options throughout our stay. Jonathan was very patient with us on our first meal. Due to COVID, the resort had to remove all physical menus and we were having trouble getting the QR codes to work on my husbands phone. As I was about to walk back to the room to grab my device, the Oceana Seaside manager, Arturo, stopped me and insisted I sit and enjoy a beverage while he had Jonathan recite the menu to us by memory. I worked for 20 years in the food and beverage industry as a hostess, waitress, bartender and manager. Two decades of experience has allowed me to notice all the details involved in a dining experience. Dreams Villamagna has it all dialed in. Food quality, friendly and helpful staff, efficient service and fine dining atmosphere are all top notch. Our 10 year old and 10 month old were both given care, attention and service just as my husband and I were given. My husband asked for bait to go fishing and the concierge got a bag of shrimp for him without question. The maids came by twice a day and always were respectful and patient when we needed them to return later while our baby napped. There was a children’s movie night outside and we happened to be the only English speaking guests. The staff changed the language and subtitles every 20 minutes to allow everyone to be included and to enjoy the movie. Not at all what we expected or would have asked for, but they just did it without question. Above and beyond. Thank you for making our families DREAM vacation a reality after such a very interesting 2020. We thank you for every safety measure that was taken for the staff and guests. I see your every effort and I thank you immensely for the care you’ve shown my family. We will see how Dreams in Cancun measures up in March, 2021. Patrice and Kevin Peterson. Boise, Idaho, USA
The attentive staff are the best part. Jesus set us up with coffee. Johnathan & Mitzi were so helpful at the World Cafe.Alonso at Gohan was a friendly first night introduction. Veronica was the perfect poolside server. The resort is working hard on up keep but my room needed a refresh. I did not get a warm shower once. I did notify the desk but I guess there was nothing they could do . It was not so cold that it was uncomfortable. The pools are clean with brisk water but certainly refreshing! The dining was good overall. I would suggest that they put the QR code’s on the tables. Due to the fact that the resort was rather empty, not all the restaurants were open each night. I was impressed by the sanitation at the resort- they all took it very seriously! Overall I would recommend this resort.
Most of the staff was excellent. Alex was the best! And Veronica ran her ass off keeping our drinks full! The drinks and food were great. 2 big down sides for me was the snack bar is not easy to access and there is no swim up bar.
Enjoyed it overall but wouldn’t go back
My husband and I traveled here for a 5 day vacation. Here’s our review with pros and cons. We also have to consider that the pandemic is still present. Just heads up for those who haven’t traveled to Mexico, ensure you bring a pen because you have to sign some forms on the plane prior to landing in Mexico. When getting into Mexico, avoid all of the people trying to sell you time share stuff, etc. Go straight outside and find your transportation company or taxi! Pros: 1. All inclusive! Eat and drink everything you want as many times as you want; this includes room service. 2. Drink menu: Not all resorts have a drink menu and you have to figure out what they can actually make. We literally tried them all and just went down the list. 3. Felt safe: Resort has a gate so not anyone can roll up and enter. If you leave the resort, they ask for your name, room number, where you’re going and for the drivers name. 4. Covid precautions: There is hand sanitizer available every where. They check temperatures (on the hand, wrist or arm, and then sometimes on the forehead...). Masks are required to enter some places, such as the restaurants, gift shop, etc. They have these foot step pads that you step on and then wipe your foot on a second mat (we assumed it was sanitizer for your shoes?). We wore face masks everywhere unless we were eating, drinking or in the pool. 5. Waiters were quick and friendly 6. 4 pools to choose from 7. Body shampoo, hand sanitizer, lotion, shaver, shaving lotion, comb, toothbrush and toothpaste is provided 8. Gift shop has various things: meds, sunscreen, sun tanning lotion, swim suits/trunks (adult and kids), tequila, cigars, pants, shirts, ice cream, sunglasses, shavers and shaving cream, magnets, etc 9. You get your own hot/cold whirlpool/jacuzzi! 10. They have a child care place but we don’t know much about it since we didn’t bring any children 11. Not many people out during the day. Most ppl came out during the evening. 12. Easy to find seats by the pool side and beach 13. Greeted with champagne Cons: 1. Restaurants: Each restaurant only has so many options on their menus. Since we stayed for 5 days, we felt as though we repeatedly ate the same things, or more so ran out of things to eat. Restaurants have barcode menus that can only be accessed through your phones with WiFi but the hotel WiFi isn’t the best so good luck! There isn’t always a restaurant that’s opened. You’d think that if one restaurant is closed, another would be opened so that there’s always food available but there comes a time when all of the restaurants are closed. MEN, ensure you BRING A PAIR OF PANTS! You can only enter the Italian restaurant if you wear pants. If you forget, there’s pants in the gift shop but they run LARGE. World cafe breakfast buffet only had one person working behind the food to serve us so there was a line and it wasn’t worth waking up early to eat there. Sushi restaurant on the top floor has 5 main rolls and they’re pretty basic sushi rolls. If you want real steak then order the steak from the Mexican restaurant called El Patio. 2. Room service: order earlier in the night before they run out of food. Food isn’t the best room service food we’ve had in Mexico. Oh and Neapolitan jello help is flan. Sometimes our room service took an hour to an hour and a half. 3. Spa is limited: we got a couples massage and that was all that was available because of covid. The pools, hot tubs, sauna were closed off. 4. There’s only 2 elevators and one of the elevators were out of service by the end of our trip. There’s only supposed to be 3 ppl in the elevators BUT even prior to the second elevator being down, some ppl just don’t follow rules and join you in the elevator anyway. Staff definitely doesn’t enforce the rules! 5. If you upgrade to PREMIUM, it’s not worth it. You get your own snacks and drinks on the 7th floor and those snacks sit there all day. Ex: cheese and tomatoes, fruit bowls with light amount of tajin, little cakes, Sandwhich bites, cheese and Sandwhich meat, etc Side note: if you leave the hotel, it’s super easy and cheap to take an Uber. Although many of the ppl in Puerto Vallarta don’t really speak English, Uber makes it easy so there’s not miscommunication. Little shopping areas near by 5-20mins away.
