My Second Stay Here.
It's been two years since my husband and I have stayed here. I still love it. This time we got a water view room facing the pool and boats in the 3rd floor in room 336, with rocking chairs on the balcony. That was a nice touch. Simply enjoyed our stay here. I found no issues with our room or any inconvenience. I felt for the staff, due to not enough employees to help out, but they persaveard.
Serious moisture problem and and deceiving room descriptions/photos
Checked in on Thursday just prior to the Labor Day Holiday weekend. All looked well from the outside. Nice pool and sitting area. Lobby area also appeared clean. However, As a previous reviewer stated, bad, bad mold problem...they try to mask it with freshners but be forewarned it’s still there. Upon entering room 436, we immediatly noticed it was warm, temp was set to 70 and the grill of unit was covered in mold. The couch was also coated in mold. We noticed there were moisture-ridding devices hanging in inconspicuous places. I went straight back to the front desk to complain, and was offered the keys to look at a similar room on 3rd floor. I asked if all the rooms had this mold/moisture problem and was told no that maybe there had been a water leak on her days off? Once stepping off elevator onto 3rd floor it smelled as if you were stepping into a musty basement and there were at least 10 dehumidifiers down the length of the hallway so after threatening to check back out and being given an additional discount, we decided to stay in our 4th floor room. Maintenance came and cleaned the coils in hopes to fix the air unit and cleaned the mold from back of couch. Our air unit did not work correctly the duration of our 4 night stay. There was mold on our door and also the door across the hall from ours as well as ceiling tiles and walls in the hall. Friday morning we noticed maintenance was hard at it replacing ceiling tiles and wiping mold from walls we assume in an effort to clean the place up before the crowd got there for the long weekend. Travelers should also be aware that the advertised “larger corner room” is not a TRUE corner as we had rooms on both sides of us and no actual corner. The pics on website do not accurately depict this. We didn’t have windows/patio on both walls as shown on their website. Furthermore, the room is small, so if this is larger than the standard rooms then they must be tiny! My husband and I were frequently bumping into each other. The hangers in the closet couldn’t hang appropriately without hitting the wall. The only positive to our stay was the view from our balcony and the proximity to the things we wanted to do. Had it not been for the additional discount we would have left immediately and we still question our decision to stay. This hotel needs some work to be at a Marriott standard. We would not return here again.
Room booked vs. room received
After booking a river view room using the hotels posted pictures as a guide we were very disappointed to have received a room with a view of tidal marsh and bridge construction . Explanation at front desk was "that's the room booked" and no apology or anything else. Understandably certain amenities would be unavailable due to the Covid outbreak I believe the hotel should have signage to such posted at check in but instead signage and TV room messages continued to advertise such. Over all it was very disappointing stay .
Traveling during a pandemic
I stayed at this hotel for two nights with my husband and found this hotel to be very nice. I, like most people, have been afraid to trace during the pandemic but had to drop out children at their universities which necessitated a road trip. The hotel is on the Marina off of the highway with beautiful views. It is a nice looking hotel with a pool overlooking the marina and plenty of seating outside. All nicely done. The lobby area was nicely decorated and looked as though it had been renovated. Plenty of places to sit and it if only you could get food to eat. Due to the pandemic there were less than a dozen rooms booked and no place to eat. The lack of people at the hotel made it easy to social distance. The restaurant was closed. For breakfast you could get a to go bag for $10 and one for $5 which consisted mainly of a beverage, fruit, muffin, granola bar and other items if you opt for the $10 meal. Its obvious that the hotel industry is suffering and for at least the foreseeable future will not be offering buffet style breakfasts to avoid contamination so I am ok with that, but was not ok with the fact that we could not get even dinner. There is a Hilton Garden Inn across the parking lot that had breakfast for 3 hrs and dinner for three hours. This being the only place you could walk to to get food. Although the hotel was absolutely beautiful the rooms did need a little updating. They were not awful, but you could tell that a lot of effort was made to make the public access areas stunning while the rooms lacked luster. Everything was clean with hand sanitizers throughout the hotel as well as clearly posted signs advising everyone of the CDC guidelines for wearing of masks. I would definitely go back but at a reduced rate since there is no restaurant. Would be nice to be able to get something to eat or drink while enjoying the outside space but that was not possible unless you purchase snacks from the in-house little market or order through uber eats which is what they were offering. Not sure if they have been advertising that but they should. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Historic Charleston was 1.5 miles away from this hotel.
Good price and location
I love the view from the Marina and the decor is nice. Only problem is the smell of the rooms. Smelled very moldy. It is definitely an old hotel that has been remodeled. I guess you get what you pay for in this location.
