Most beautiful beach
My wife and I traveled to the Catalonia Playa Maroma from Jan 28th to Feb 7th. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniverary. Upon arrival we were told we had a room upgrade and were brought a bottle of champagne and pastries after we were in our room.We went here because of the beach. It is the nicest beach we have seen in the Riviera Maya. If you are a beach person this is the place to be. Food, drinks and service were all good. Only drawback is when it is real windy, there is no relief from the wind unless you go to the pool which is very hot. If you like a quiet, relaxed holiday, this is the place. We will be back.
See previous review Catalonia Riviera Maya Hotel and Spa. This is a better Hotel
Moved here from the above half way through trip as other hotel closed. Tourists became a rare breed. Other side ode of Playa De Carmen so confinement to hotel complex. Far more jungle within hotel grounds with long main path (maybe almost 1/4 mile) with jungle on either side periodically leading to residences. Food much better here, but the hotel was clearing winding down as many of the specialist restaurants were not open in the evening. Amazing little animals in complex called coati and the occasional spider monkey. As before loads of Hi De Hi style entertainment with line dancing and other open air lessons, water athletics and stuff not to our taste but to others. on site shop extortionate £3.00 for 20 paracetamol, did not buy anything else.Evening entertainment virtually no existent, but getting good at Rummikub. We did see 3 or 4 other tourist on our last day before catching a repatriation flight back to Blighty. Lovely hotel if you want a pure relaxation and nothing else. For me its back to India.
All the restaurants were excellent and the rooms were nice. Lots of entertainment and it was so interesting to see all the different animals as you walked the path through the jungle. The beach had the softest sand ever and you could walk it for long streaches in each direction. The shops were a bit pricey and I prefer the market myself but it was nice having these shopping options right in the resort and there was a craftsman with a stand selling really cool souvenirs for good prices.
So we arrived on March 13 th and left the 20 th So really quiet here at the end of the week. Check in was fast and efficient the guy was funny too. We booked a premium renovated room. Bell boy brought our bags. We looked around the room. Was disappointed. Blood on the sheets and blankets. Two towels one had a bad poop stain. Now this room was not kept up with at all. We called front desk they couldn’t move us that night. Next day we moved rooms and we got a nice clean room Bed was noisy though lots of creaking. The beach here is awesome. The pool is nice. The animation team is good. They have a pump to blow up floaties at the towel stand. Now we got good service all over here but like I said we were here during the height of travel advisories due too the virus so they’re wasn’t many people here. If you could give half stars I would give this place a 3.5. With the major downfall for the food. The buffet is the same for lunch and supper every day of the week. Two cooking stations. One pasta. One meat Every day of the week. Booo. The other restaurants don’t need reservations. We did the grill. The Italian and the Japanese. The Japanese was the best. Servers at all the places were awesome. The Italian has an outside area over looking the ocean. The coffee shop here is good and we often had sandwiches and cake here instead of going to the buffet. We tried breakfast here three times and never saw bacon. ? Our kids did though lol they said it was good. Hot dogs and taco stands were good for lunch snacks. The resort is beautiful the beach is beautiful the staff is good. But I wouldn’t go back unless I got a good price as the food was lacking.
Our seond trip to this resort, and again, we were not disappointed. It is small, quiet, clean, and located on a beautiful beach, where you can swim and take long walks. The food was amazing, but the best feature has to be the staff....from the hard working chamber maids, entertainment crew, front desk personel, to all the amazing hostesses, waiters at the restarants and bars. I would strongly recommend the upgrade to Privilege, for the opportunity to experience the Beloved restaurant. Janeth, Quirino ,Bernabe and all the staff here are simply amazing ..,their warmth and professionalism will charm you to come back again and again to experience the culinary delights of this wonderful dining experience. Thank you for a great escape, we will be back! Lise and Señor Tequila
