Nice hotel, ten minutes from city centre.
The hotel is ten minutes outside of the city centre, set in nice grounds close to a main road. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the hotel is decorated nicely throughout. There is a nice pool area with a snack bar close to it. Hampers are available as well as beds around the pool. We had a double room which was very clean and well appointed, with tea / coffee, table and chairs and a sofa and safe. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good sleet. The bathroom was a good size with a good shower. There is a buffet stye breakfast, availability of eggs or omelette and plenty of fruit etc. The buffet was not really to our taste but there is variety. Overall a good stay and we would recommend.

Great staff, good location, reasonable pricess.
We (Zoila and Moises) stayed 10 days: June 1 to June 11. We enjoyed the wonderful service showed in most areas of the Hotel. The daily buffet was really good: tamales, bread pudin, arroz con leche, assorted fresh fruits such as mango, apple, pineapple, papaya, cantaloupe, watermelon were fresh and tasty; also assorted cookies, bread, and an automatic coffee dispenser. My favorite the cappuccino. We did enjoy the impeccable service provided at the Restaurant Amphora where the daily breakfast buffet was provided: David displayed an awesome service, very attentive, sociable, funny and knowledgeable of wines and food; Adriana, Beverly, Gloria, Elizabeth, the Mrs who cooks and serves the eggs are very professionals, attentive, reliable, and they are always ready to help the customers. Also the Captains: Jose, Hugo, Edwin: captain of The Bar located in the Lobby were outstanding. They gave a great service with professionalism, effort and class. We liked their kindness, service and friendship. We liked the lounge or premium level on the 6th floor. Elizabeth did a super awesome job: very cordial, friendly, kind, and charismatic. My wife and I enjoyed Elizabeth superb work. The front desk is also A plus: we got an awesome help anytime from Brandon, Juan, Stacey, Andres who helped us with our cellphones to get International internet. Our thanks to the rest of the staff of the front desk. because they were too attentive and helpful. We hope to see you next year. At night times, we enjoyed in the lobby the great piano player Zarhay. During my birthday on June,5 Zarhay played the piano, Zoila my wife and a group of friends: Anil and Ratan from India made me feel really very glad. Ratan and Anil are super friendly , well educated, funny and smart friends. A week ago before my birthday when we met Zarhay, she immediately played traditional popular songs from our countries: Chile such as "Si vas para Chile", " Gracias a la vida" and Peru such as " La flor de la canela", as soon as we requested. I also requested Zarhay to play a famous tango from Argentina titled "Adios muchachos" remembering my past away Mother who loved that tango. We are missing all of the staff of Barcello San Jose Hotel. Frankly, they are great. We'll be back.

very beautiful hotel with amazing view of the park and mountains. Delicious food from three restaurants to choose from, with the best waiter Maykel :) nice big pool for kids and adults. And a few nice shops with prices as for costa rica standards very reasonable.

Great hotel in city center
Great value; superb gardens and pool, good shuttle service, comfortable rooms. Surprisingly slow internet (1-5Mbps, whether in-room or in lobby). Very complete and tasty breakfast, but no real juices.
