Not as advertised and food poisoning
Unfortunately we got food poisoning from the Brazillian-style steak restaurant on the second night, which meant we couldn't leave our room for half the holiday! This didn't help with the daily/nightly power cuts either. The restaurants are hit or miss; the buffet and Asian Fusion restaurant were best by far. The Gourmet Pablo we received terrible service, only four tables in yet they ignored us as soon as I said I didn't want any wine to drink and please could I just have water! Food was cold and the showstopper dessert with melting shell didn't work as the waiter poured clearly cold sauce onto the shell, which was a bit awkward as he had to go get some heated up to try again! Similarly the 'pancake at your table' dessert we saw another table have was a cart rolled out with premade pancakes on a plate, which they then made a show of lighting a pan and reheating one pancake from the plate and then serving? Definitely not the dining that was advertised when we booked, the beach was lovely but overall the facilities are tired and for the luxury holiday price it was not worth it especially when they emphasise their restaurants and fine dining as a main reason to book. Dress codes for restaurants also didn't seem to matter - again we turned up according to dress code, and there were people turning up in flip flops and shorts. Majority of guests were at older end (50+) when we visited so events weren't very lively apart from the beach party which was the highlight with the fireshow.

Ocean resort not appealing.
If you're looking for a Caribean bech resort, this is NOT for you. The resort is well kept, service is wonderful and food is good. However, we were quite dissapointed with the ocean water. It is near a river hence producing jellyfish, water mercky and people who went into the ocean, all got stung, one person severly. Hence I would not recommend this resort as our desire was truly to experience the Caribean ocean as one would expect. Will not be returning to this resort.

Great Trip
We travelled here for our second visit within eighteen months as a couple one of which is a wheelchair user. We had a long flight and an hour by taxi from the UK but we were met by a very helpful reception staff and a cold wipe and nice refreshing drink. We had everything explained to us about the restaurants etc and given our bands which acted as the room door key as well. We were in block 54 a stones throw from the shall we say loud pool(nearest to the beach pool). I had downloaded the Bahia app prior to coming and done the on line check and booked a few restaurants. This is gives the information you need before and whilst you are there, it gives you a run down of the entertainment and restaurants and allows you to book them. You can also book room service or get repairs done or more towels etc. We visited all the restaurants and found the food to be of excellent quality, the staff went out of there way to look after us. The bars within the hotel were good and the staff some how remember your favourite tipple. The maids and front desk staff were all excellent with us offering help with all our needs which we didn’t have any. The entertainment staff were all very good and will get you up taking part in the daily activities and dancing in the evening. The whole staff at the hotel want you to have a good time not a bad time. The rooms are large and ok they could do with a little up grade to match in with other Bahia hotels on the island but they are comfortable and no doubt an upgrade will be coming in a few years. The only negative about the hotel I could find was the sea, the water is not clear and there are a lot of jellyfish, but if you like the pools then that fine. Thanks for a great time we will be back

Great value luxury
We have just completed a two week stay at the Bouganville and can say that it would be impossible to find a fault with the hotel. The grounds are immaculate and well tended, the rooms spacious and clean, the food is excellent with a tremendous choice. However, the overriding memory will be the staff. Always cheerful and helpful. An extremely well run hotel.

Wonderful
The place is 5 star , you will gain weight from all the food , the rooms are stunning , the beach is to die for , thee staff are lovely but the evening entertainment is a bit on the hit and miss as they don’t speak English very well and will pick only Spanish speaking people up for the games , but other then that it’s a stunning hotel , we stayed on the adults only side
