Gorgeous Weather, Great Staff – But the Resort Falls Short Overall
I recently stayed at the Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica with high hopes, especially given the reputation of Jamaican hospitality and flavour. Unfortunately, while there were definitely highlights, the overall experience left much to be desired. The Pros: First and foremost, housekeeping was excellent. My room was always impeccably clean, with the fridge and bottled water consistently refilled and extra towels and blankets provided without even needing to ask. Most of the staff were another saving grace. A special thank you to Gabby at the Beach Restaurant, who took care of me and my crew every single lunch. She was incredibly attentive, warm, and went above and beyond—especially given how many kids were in our group. Also, Takara (Asian restaurant) was hands down the best à la carte experience of the trip. Every staff member there was amazing, and the food was miles better than anything else on the resort. A huge shout out to Dadrian, who crafted a special cocktail for me, and Micah, who was an outstanding server—thoughtful, perfectly paced service, and helpful with selections. They truly elevated the dining experience that night. I also visited the spa, and again, the staff and service were excellent. I had a body scrub and massage, both of which were relaxing and professionally delivered. However, the spa itself could use a bit of an upgrade. The robe felt like it was made of bathing suit material—not soft or luxurious—and the spa sandals were so uncomfortable I chose to keep my own shoes on. Additionally, neither the undergarments provided nor the massage tables seemed very size-inclusive, which could be improved to better accommodate a wider range of guests. That said, with a few tweaks, this could truly be an oasis on the property. The Cons: Unfortunately, the overall food quality was shockingly poor—especially for a Jamaican resort. Outside of the à la carte restaurants, the buffet food was bland, repetitive, and unseasoned. I've had better buffet meals in Cuba, which says a lot. Getting a reservation at the à la carte restaurants was nearly impossible. They were consistently listed as fully booked, yet every one I managed to attend was more than 50% empty throughout the entire meal. This gave the impression of mismanagement and likely contributed to the overcrowding at the buffets—people were left with no choice. Lines were constant. On one night, it took us 30 minutes just to get a table at the buffet, only to find much of the food already gone—due to other buffets on the property being mysteriously closed. At the Jerk Center by the pool, we regularly waited 10–15 minutes just for fries. Local dishes like ackee and saltfish were gone if you weren’t at breakfast before 9 a.m., and shockingly the fresh fruit station was always sparse or empty, the entire week I did not once get fresh mango at the buffet, it was melon and pineapple only (when available). There was also very poor communication about resort amenities. We found out about water activities like paddle boarding and snorkeling almost accidentally—more than halfway through our trip. No information packet in the room or provided at check in, No signage, no orientation, no engagement. While housekeeping was a highlight, I have to point out that there are a few things in the room that were not there, that I think are necessary. There is no shelving in the shower, so no bringing your own products, or having someone to hang washcloths or loofahs. Safety was another issue. The kids’ water park was chaotic and unmonitored. I witnessed roughhousing, fights, and unsafe behavior go completely unnoticed by lifeguards. At one point, I had to personally flag a lifeguard to break up a situation. One child split his chin open after running on a wet surface, and even I found walking around the area quite slippery and hazardous. I understand from online chatter that the resort is reportedly closing in 2026 for renovations, and it’s badly needed. I sincerely hope they focus on improving food quality, training around safety, spa & room upgrades, and better communication about activities. Until then, I personally wouldn’t return or recommend this property, especially given the many fantastic options available in Jamaica.

Terrible experience. Very disappointing. Will neither recommend or return.
The rooms were not well maintained..... shower doors did not close so lots of water on floor outside of stall, cracks in tiles on bathroom floor that made noises when you walked on them, mold in shower stall, floor in shower stall very uneven making it dangerous Customer service was poor, staff were rude and could never answer questions asked. They seemed very unhappy, were not neatly dressed to be serving guests especially in the buffet restaurants, uniforms were not fitting properly an some looked dirty. The staff who cleaned the rooms were not thorough enough, They did not wipe dressers, and table and did not mop or sweep the floors every day. Most of the guest elevators were not working and staff were rude to us when we used their elevators which were dirty and not appropiate for guests. Not everyone can climb the numerous stairs, especially older folks and very young kids. The bathrooms in the public areas were constantly being cleaned.....one good thing. Food was plentiful but quality should be improved There was a charge for certain alcoholic drinks in the main lobby bar. This should NOT be at an all inclusive experience. The band to enter your room often did not work and we had to get card keys instead.

DO NOT BOOK here..reviews written are ON PT
OMG I just checked in and all of the reviews that are written are on point. We came as a group of 40, in our group we had a room with a leak that did not get fixed, NO TOWELS in two rooms…it’s midnight and after 5 calls and multiple visits to the lobby still no towels….the staff does not care and just ignores the basic necessities of an all Inclusive. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE. We are ready to check out and regret booking this.

A 3 Star Hotel at Best
Where do I even begin…. Positive: The Air Transat staff were great. They did their best to address our concerns but there is only so much they can do. Negatives: By no stretch of the imagination is this a 5 star hotel. The rooms are old and in serious need of repair. After speaking to some of the guests, we realized that the problems we were encountering were “normal” for this hotel. When we researched this hotel before booking, there were very little negative comments. I know now that they have been strategically hidden. Also, before entering the buffet one morning, they gave people a free bottle of rum for posting a 5 star review. (This explains a lot). Changing rooms is a humongous ordeal so we stuck with our second room. You have to beg for towels and toilet paper. The hallway had a spilled coffee stain on day 2 and it was not cleaned up when we were leaving on day 7. The shower leaked, the ceiling leaked. The washrooms are rundown. If you are a light sleeper, do not plan to catch up on sleep. A large number of the staff are uncompromising, unreliable and disingenuous. You cannot count on things proceeding as advertised. The basic comforts that you would expect from a resort are missing. If we had only a couple of incidents, we could look past them but there were so many. Organization is not their strong suit. Lineups are a hectic mess, starting with the front desk…. and nobody cares. I cannot pinpoint where the problems start. Possibly the hotel is too big and understaffed. Possibly they need a stronger management team. We are told that the hotel will go through a huge renovation next year. This is a start. However, there needs to be a strong sense of values that is held by the entire team and not just a few people here and there. This was my daughter’s first visit to Jamaica and I wanted to share a positive experience of my birth country. Unfortunately, we will have to try again at another hotel. I would strongly not recommend this hotel. Oh and both my daughter and myself are leaving with upset stomachs….. so there’s that too.

Worst experience EVER. DO NOT BOOK THIS RESORT
The employees are not happy and it is reflected in their service and how they deal with hotel guests. The check process typically last over an hour, long checkout process almost as bad. The bathroom fixtures need to be replaced and the shower makes a complete mess on the floor. The television had limited channels, most of which did not show clearly and when I asked about getting that fixed maintenance came and told me that it was an IT issue and I did not have a premium room and I needed to contact IT for any further assistance. My party consist of three rooms and between the three of us, we either could not get washcloths and towels. We were given a hard time about towels at the pool, even though we returned our dirty towels one room had roaches standing water in the shower because it did not drain and the toilet backed up and when maintenance was called at night, they were told it was late and someone would come in the morning. That same room had no TV channels, and the other room had little to no access. To top all of that off, I left my room at 10:30 AM and returned at 5 PM to find that my room door was left open. Not unlocked but left physically open and when I called the front desk, I spoke with security and was told to file a report only if something was missing. They had no regard for my safety. Even after I explained to them, I no longer felt safe. There was nothing done. There was no concern they did not care.No one came up to check and make sure everything was OK. They brushed me off like it was no big deal! The staff is extremely rude in the buffet. The lifeguards are very aggressive and the way they flirt. The front desk staff was very rude with the exception of a couple people. The food was subpar and got worse by the day. It’s sad to say the only way to get any results is to be rude and match their energy, which should not be necessary. No one pays to go on vacation and to be completely disregarded or disrespected and treated poorly. Do not book this hotel
