Older hotel in a prime location
We stayed here for three nights in June 2021 after staying six nights on Maui. Oahu was an add-on for us and we were not renting a car so we didn't want to break the bank, and location was key. We chose this hotel because of its location and its low price. Pluses - the staff was great and very helpful. All the common areas are kept up very well, and the pool and restaurant were convenient. We made plans through the activities desk and found the concierge helpful as well. Beds were a bit soft but linens were fresh and comfortable. Water pressure, hot water, and AC were all good, as was the room refrigerator. And you can't beat the location. Aside from the beach, there are several dining choices, coffee, and convenience stores within a 2-minute walk. Minuses - the rooms are older and it shows. Things are functional but a little beat up. The carpet in our room was basically filthy - our feet were dirty in minutes. Would I stay here again? For the price, on Waikiki Beach, yes, I would.
I'm giving this hotel 3 stars as there were both pros and cons. I paid extra for an ocean view room and the view did not disappoint. However, the room did disappoint. The rooms are nothing like what is advertised; very small. They are old and dirty. When we entered our room, the bathroom was dirty and was not cleaned. The bedding smelled unwashed and definitely not cleaned. I informed the front desk and they had someone clean the bathroom, but the bedding remained the same. We did not receive new pillows until the next day. I would hope that this property does some renovations to their rooms. The property itself is nice (hallways, pool area etc). This property also has water filling stations on the ground and 3rd levels which is nice! Other than that, the locations and views were the top pros of this property.
Great staff, awful room
5 stars for front desk and valet staff, they were excellent. I would give the room zero stars if that were an option. This hotel is rated as 4 stars; maybe in the past, but not now. The public areas (lobby, pool area) are in good condition, but the hallways and rooms are in desperate need of renovation. I booked well in advance and did not get a room on an upper floor as requested. We booked a 'premium' ocean front room. Positives about the room: the view was spectacular, and it was quiet. The rest: the bed in the room was very old and uncomfortable. The only seating in room was 2 high top backless stools. Decor .. there wasn't any. The safe did not work. The bathroom was a nightmare; the last update was probably in the 1980s. Dirty looking faded 1 inch tiles on the floor, cheap fixtures, the door looks like a prison door. The worst was the tub did not drain; after taking a shower water was up to our calves - yuck The picture is from about 10 minutes after a shower. We reported these issues and general unhappiness with the room; maintenance was supposed to fix the drain and safe the next day but never showed up. It wasn't expensive for the location; I thought this was <big box store> getting a great deal for their customers, but it's getting what you pay for. Spend a little more and stay somewhere else, there are many better choices in Waikiki.
Great location and excellent service
This hotel is ideally located across from Waikiki Beach. It was fun to watch the goings on from our balcony. There were MANY restaurants, bars and stores within walking distance. The rooms are very basic, but they were clean and comfortable. The customer service was excellent. We spent time exploring the North Shore and the East side of the island, but were glad to come back to our rooms here.
Location Location Location
Just finished a week's stay at this Aston on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki. We rented a car so was advised this end would give us easier access in going to the East and North shore. The hotel staff was so friendly and willing to help with all our needs and questions. David helped us line up our Pearl Harbor tour and suggested where to see the real Hawaii. Our Location was perfect with a great beach and quiet protected waters. We were within walking distance of the more lively section of Waikiki and the great restaurants. We booked our stay through travel zoo and received a great rate with perks. Overall, I certainly recommend this hotel and it's great location.
