    True piece of Hawaiian paradise

My husband and I almost chose a completely different resort for our honeymoon but after reading more reviews and watching a few videos from guests, we switched to this resort. We both say how glad we are that this was our choice. It was perfect. First, upon check-in we were greeted by the friendly front desk staff. The lobby is open air with light Hawaiian music playing which gives it an immediate vacation vibe. The landscaping is beautiful and our room was incredible. We stayed in an ocean front Lanai suite in the tower. We looked at the bungalows but there were no ocean front ones available and I was picky about wanting a view of the ocean - which was exactly what we got! It was insanely beautiful. We were giddy the whole stay. Our package included breakfast so we ate at the buffet everyday. It was very good. They had bacon cooked to different degrees of wellness which was perfect because I like extra crispy! There was a different sausage and carb option every morning. My favorite turned out to be the noodles that reminded me of chow mein - but better. We rented the beach umbrella, chairs and cooler for the first day. It was paradise. The beach isn't overcrowded, there aren't screaming kids everywhere (it was family friendly though), and the little bar by the beach had perfect drinks and food. We went to the luau on site and really enjoyed it. We stayed in bed a whole day during our trip and just enjoyed the view (while recovering from a sunburn from the perfect beach day). We had one small issue with our AC on the first day but it was fixed immediately. We would love to stay here again. Great location, super romantic and relaxing, and just the perfect honeymoon spot.

    Great Stay

It had very accommodating staff and it was great to have your Luau included in the stay. It was close to the beach and great snorkeling location.

    Royal & Awesome

A terrific place for families, solo travel, or couples. A perfect location within walking distance of activities and the food truck park. The tours like road to Hana and Maui sunset cruises are readily available and near by, so worth it. We had a fantastic time and felt the luau at the hotel was excellent.

Twenty Year Wedding Anniversary Celebration in Maui, HI

We went back to the Royal Lahaina to celebrate our 20th anniversary on July 4th, 2025. We were Maui'd at the Royal Lahaina 20 years ago. We had hoped to see a wedding paver from our wedding package in July 2005; however, due to resort change of ownership we were told the pavers were not longer available. Other than this disappointment, we had an incredible time during our stay. So many special memories from our first stay and our anniversary stay. The staff was very helpful and assisted us whenever we needed anything. We hope to have the opportunity to return again in the future.

    Poorly Managed

I would not recommend this hotel given other options in Lahaina. The hotel clearly struggles with lack of adequate staffing levels and it shows in the poor service, maintenance of rooms, and overall experience in general. Here are a few highlights and reasoning for the 1 star. 1) Check in Process: What an utter disaster. This is the first impression the hotel can give to its guests, and it is not a good one. Do not bother coming even 30 minutes before the check in time (even though the hotel texts when your expected arrival is), because it won't be met. Instead, you will be waiting around for potentially hours in a hot and muggy lobby (maybe offer cool towels or have complimentary beverage service). Maybe throw a few cookies out for the kids. This is not rocket science. If you have a bunch of families just waiting around in a hot and muggy room, at least make the experience a bit better when their rooms are not ready past the check-in time. In our case we waited over an hour, but it was not just us. It was probably 10-15 other families also. After 3 trips to the front desk, a talk with the manager, a few eye-rolls from the receptionist, we finally got to our room about 30 minutes after check in time. I am sure others were far worse. To compound it people got so fed up with the wait they went into the back room where the luggage was stored and rather than wait for the bellmen to retrieve their luggage, they hauled it themselves. 2) The front desk was completely disorganized and was putting room keys with the claim tickets in no particular order, thus it was a lottery with who gets to go their rooms first. Luckily, we got our room after a third time of going to the front desk asking for a status. In our case the person forgot to put our room key and luggage claim ticket in the right spot and it was just sitting at her workstation. Then she got mad that I kept coming up...sorry we paid for a bungalow and expected our room to be ready. No apology, nothing. 2) Room Quality: Beware of getting the oceanfront bungalows. They say newly renovated. No way. Our outside lanai had badly stained couch cushions. The room is small, has nowhere to sit (bad design choice to put a giant standing lamp versus a chair), so be prepared to either sit on the bed, or the stained couches if you want to sit. Unless you get the kitchen all you get is the mini-fridge, which because the room is so small is located in the closet, which is located in the bathroom (yes strange). Not sure how old the fridge is, but barely functions. Then you get a half shower that is designed with no door. So everytime you take a shower be prepared for a puddle of water on the bathroom floor. 3) House-keeping: First of all, it is EVERY OTHER DAY. Why? Because the hotel does not staff itself adequately. We are paying a per night room rate, the same every night. The service, every day, should be the same. Going back to the water in shower situation mentioned in point two. If you have a family of 4, by the next day you get to re-use wet toils or call or keep calling for new towels (which may or may not arrive). Further, by that next day you likely have the small trash cans overflowing with trash with no where to put them. Why? Because they don't service your room everyday like any reputable hotel would. Another issue, the hand soap was never refilled, the towels provided were always 3, despite us have 4 people on the room reservation. 4. Every. Freaking Day. 4) Room Service: Sure.... you can order food from your room, but they don't deliver it. 5) Management response: Generic, canned we will pass it along to our team members. No apology, no consideration throughout the room or after. Maybe offer a few free drinks, or a room credit, something. When you have not made the customer feel valued for what they paid, try something! This are just some of the samples, I could go into the crappy pool bar hours, pool towel service, lack of politeness of many of the staff, but you can either A) ignore this review and subject yourself to a poorly managed hotel or B) Don't chance it and go to literally any of the hotels that line the beaches (or an AIR BnB). I will promise you, your money will be better spent elsewhere.
