    A relaxing getaway

Visited the Sheraton Sand Key for a short getaway. We love this place and can't wait to return!! The Mainstay Tavern within the hotel is a great place for a casual meal or cocktails. Ask for Ryan! He was stellar and so informative - do not miss the RK Burger, house-made soups, and peach sangria! Rusty's was also fantastic for breakfast, Carlos was our amazing server here. There is a medium-size buffet available, but also regular menu items. The hotel facilities are comfortable and extremely relaxing. It's a short walk to the beach, where you can bring your own chairs or rent cabanas, and there are yard games, hammocks etc. by the pool area. Just a word of advice, the cabanas are a bit pricey ($45) but that is for the day. Everyone we encountered on staff was gracious and quick to be of service. If you have not visited the area before, Sand Key Beach is a hidden gem: close to lots of activities but still peaceful with lots of natural beauty and sea oats.

Palmetto Bugs, Snarky Staff and Shrugged Off Anniversaries Not Quite the Resort Vibes We Hoped For

I really hate to start our anniversary getaway with a negative review, but here we are. I told the front desk we were celebrating our special occasion, expecting maybe a “Happy Anniversary!” or a glass of Prosecco, or heck, even a towel folded into a swan. Instead? Radio silence. Not a greeting, not a room upgrade, not even a nod of acknowledgment. A missed opportunity so large it should’ve had its own listing on the property map. For a hotel charging $400 a night, the vibe was less “resort” and more “summer camp that charges adult prices.” Let’s talk staff. Multiple employees voluntarily vented to us after learning it was our first visit—one told us if we thought the food was bad, we should “try being staff.” Yikes. Another employee mocked the decision to not have music on one side of the pool, saying, “Literally every other place in the area does… it’s dumb.” I don’t know what’s worse, hearing this or agreeing with him while eating a lack luster breakfast buffet with the flavor profile of a cardboard coaster. Now onto the wildlife! Not one but two palmetto bugs greeted us in our room. They were so big they could’ve peeled back the sheets and called room service. Nothing says “romantic anniversary escape” like bug warfare before bedtime. Also, the hot water gave up on us halfway through our stay. Which felt metaphorical. Like the hotel itself just… gave up. To the pool bar staff: You were the MVPs. Severely understaffed but still gracious, calm, and serving up some of the best drinks we had on the trip. You deserve raises. And reinforcements. Pluses? The location is steps from the beach, and the pool cocktails were on point. But let’s be honest, when the most resort-like thing about the resort is the mojito, we’ve got problems. Final verdict: this was a $400/night lesson in managing expectations. Would I call this a resort? Only if “resort” now means “motel in a cute hat.” Will I return? Not unless the palmetto bugs start leaving better Trip advisor reviews.

    One of the best

Adrion was one of the best bartenders I’ve come across I years. He is attentive. He is knowledgeable. And, he listens to what you are looking for in a drink and makes it. He’s a hard worker and fast. He truly made my stay memorable. And, he made me feel special.
