Very easy on the budget
The Cabana Bay resort was very clean and organized, food options were great and generous in portions. One of the pools closes a little early at 8pm, but there is another that stays open later. Catching the bus can require patience early in the morning, but there are extra buses. All in all, this is great place to stay and relax for those on a budget, it was quiet and very comfortable.
I’ve stayed at Cabana Bay in the past & loved it. I liked the kitschy retro theme. This stay was less than satisfying. Our room was clean but the fabric shower curtain smelled horribly soured. Our trash was not emptied. I saw several people on our floor actually put their trash outside their door to be picked up. The grounds & common areas were not overly clean. I possess bu the same spilled, melted icee cream for 2 days. The food options were decent in the Bayliner Diner. However, we were unable to fill our drink cups because none of the drink machines were working other than the souvenir drink machines. I thought ok I must be doing something wrong, but I heard other people talking about the same issue. A wasted $9.00+. Overall quite a disappointing stay. I hate to leave a poor review, but there were some definite staffing struggles happening at Cabana Bay.
Our first time at Cabana Bay was great, but this time was absolutely terrible. We checked in and immediately could hear every word the neighbors were saying (drunk and loud), then my wife got stuck in the bathroom because the lock was broke. I called and asked to switch rooms because of those two issues. We were given keys to another room in a different section of the building. Just outside that section you could smell pot and as soon as you got in the hallway it reaked. We got to the new room and the main light switch didn't work and the room was nasty. The overwhelming pot smell was enough by itself, so I called again. First we were told that was all they had, then when I got to the front desk (who had not been told anything about the situation) said they had several other rooms. We were given a new room and the room itself is slightly above motel level clean, it's ok. The hallway in this section still smells like pot, just not as bad. We definitely won't be back to this property. The girl who got us the new room was nice and apologized, but the guy on the phone sounded like he might have been the one smoking pot and didn't seem to care.
Fun mid century design with great experience
We stayed for a 4 night, 5 day package and had a really good time. The pool was excellent, the location very close to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, and the on-site food service had enough choices to satisfy all of us and was good and convenient. The design of the family suite room accommodated all of us comfortably. Very comfortable beds.
Stayed once - not worth a second visit
We went as a family trip to celebrate my daughter’s graduation. I reserved two family suites and my brother in law later reserved a separate room. First of all they created by combining all of our reservations under my brother in laws name. This made is is difficult to add services because the reservation was under his name. Then when he checked out two days before us, we got locked out of our rooms. They attempted to “make it right” by giving us meal vouchers for 1 meal. But in the end it was still messed up because my brother in law received our statements in email. As far as the resort, the rooms were dated and the kitchen area lacked decent utensils. I know the hotel is supposed to be based on a 60s hotel but the microwave looked like it was from the 60s. The size of the room was decent(Thunderbird) but The pool didn’t open until 12 and closed at 8pm. The food selection was ok but consisted of many grab and go/sit stations. Only one sit down place near the bowling. The taste of the food wasn’t bad. The tuna dish was actually top notch. Overall I would say for the price you can stay at another nearby hotel and get better service. The only feature that makes it worth staying there is if you use the transportation to go to Universal.
