    Friends Trip

Grand Bavaro...top service. Beautiful facilities. Kind people. Easy access to excursions. Special thanks to Armando, Robert, Yocani, Yary, Silvestre, and Ranfi! Each of them were diligent to make our time memorable at the Grand. We were to go to Iberostar Grand Road Hall in Jamaica, but changed because of the hurricane. This was a pleasan change!

    first Iberostar experience

Everything was great! Our Butlers were Jose and Houston and they were outstanding. They checked in on us without being overbearing, but left us surprises in our room which were very welcoming. The whole staff was very welcoming and friendly. We especially enjoyed La Melaza around the pool! He was fun and informative!

    Mixed Feelings

This was our third trip to the DR. This was our first stay at the Grand Bavaro. We chose it for the adults only factor and its many positive reviews*. On arrival we had to wait 30 plus minutes for a front desk clerk to check us in. After that, our room was obviously not ready until 3pm. The rooms are nice but showing signs of wear. We had an upper floor room booked and upgraded to a room that had butler service. The butlers are nice and there for you if you need anything, but in my opinion, you don't need one. They stalk you out all over the resort to constantly ask you what you need. I think they always look for a tip. That said, they did handle anything and everything as requested. The housekeeping staff cleaned very well, and our room was spotless every day. However, on arrival our room was very hot and we asked to have someone check the AC. No one ever came. It was suggested that we close the door to our bathroom and hallway door, as the hallways have no air-conditioning in them. But closing doors only helped slightly. I asked for a fan and got one on the third day. We also had a bad rain shower head that trickled water. By that time, I could not sleep and we needed to change rooms. The heat in the room was unbearable. I went to the front desk, and that afternoon, our butler helped us move. The new room was much better and nice and cold, like night and day. Better shower head as well. I was glad I spoke up. Outside, the grounds are beautiful. The resort could use more umbrellas at the pool since you need to wake up at 7am to reserve a cabana. There are no shady spots at all at this resort. The pool temp was quite hot as well. It did get cooler on subsequent days, but since there are multiple pools, the temperatures should vary between them giving guests an option if they like cold vs warm or hot. No fault of the resort, but the seaweed was excessive on the beach. I believe it was just what is happening in the ocean at this time. They work tirelessly to remove it but it continued to come into shore. On the days when it was well cleaned, the ocean was wonderful. There were 6 restaurants at the resort which range from ok to very good. We enjoyed the breakfast and lunch buffet (lots of differing choices each day), the Dominican restaurant (fantastic dishes), and the grill out by the pool for lunch (burgers, hot dogs, onion rings, paella, etc). We liked the Italian restaurant the least, as that menu could use an overhaul. The hibachi was good and the chef was great. It's just very loud and oddly designed for communicating. The service at the entire resort was excellent. I do not have a single complaint about the staff. These employees all work incredibly hard to ensure you have a great vacation. I want to mention that Elizabeth, the cocktail waitress, was funny and engaging. She made our group feel like old friends, and we adored her. She should train the staff on her magical ability to connect with guests. I hope she gets a promotion of some kind, as she is an asset to the resort. Other employees connected with us each day, and we could not have felt more welcome. They did have some oddly staged entertainment, which should get a dedicated space, and adjusted volume to engage guests. Some of it was cheesy, but the performers worked very hard. The two dancers by the pool were exceptional. Since the Grand Bavaro is adults only, we had access to the other neighboring Iberostar resorts, but they do not have access to this hotel. The other hotels had too many families with tons of kids, so we were very glad we chose the adults only property. All drinks were good and were not watered down. This resort was very relaxing and had a very Zen feel to it. No loud music or obnoxious behavior. There are lots of activities if you choose to do them, but we did not take advantage of any of those. However, twice there was an afternoon foam pool party, and we absolutely loved it. We will definitely return to the DR, but would like Iberostar to back off on the pressure to write google reviews* before we leave the hotel. If we write a negative or positive review, it should come organically, not because we felt pressured to do it. Other guests felt the same way, so I imagine it is management pressuring the staff to pressure the guests. That would cause us to think twice before coming back to the Iberostar Grand.

We have been to this resort many times and the experiences are always incredible. From the amazing food to the exceptional service, we are never disappointed. Special thanks to Victor our butler, Maria our maid, and Manny at the prestige lounge, each of which made our trip another wonderful experience.
