The staff is perfect, other things not so much……

This is my third time here and I have always written glorious reviews, but I’m not feeling the love anymore. We checked in on Memorial Day Sunday. I understood the hotel was at 80% capacity. The pool bar was open, all the restaurants were open, and there was staff galore. Not so much on Monday. The pool bar is now closed for a “2 week repair”, which I find hard to believe, as I never see any workers there. It should have been mentioned when we booked it, and it would have been a factor. The ladies bathroom by the pool has only 2 unlocked stalls at any given time, except when I complained, then miraculously the “broken toilets “ were “fixed “. I asked for a bottle of Chardonnay for my ocean front room, only to be told I can’t have it, only glasses from room service. I have gotten it the last other times,it’s not like I’m asking for Dom Perignon, just standard bar wine. There also used to be a,for lack of a better word,snack/ dessert cart by the lobby bar, which after listening to the entertainment, was a welcome treat. I think they moved it to the room where the time share people only have access. I’m very disappointed with this visit, I sense something is changing behind the scenes and it’s not for the better. And again, the staff, especially Maya our pool server, is 100% excellent, but I don’t think I’ll be quick to return…..

    Iberostar Grand Paraiso

Overall, the experience at Iberostar was amazing. Tips: Depending upon the length of your stay bring 2-3 swimsuits, 2-3 dinner outfits (gals - jumpsuits, dresses etc, guys - long pants, collard shirt or polo, closed shoes) and 4-5 daytime outfits, beachwear etc. Bring a travel pharmacy - pepto, imodium, advil, liquid IV, sun screen and burn lotion. Bring cash to tip the waiters/waitresses/staff You can use Walmart delivery for supplies if needed. Pros: We really liked the adults only hotel. It had a very relaxing vibe. The staff were highly engaged with the guests and encouraging the guests to join in on the activities. The staff were attentative to guests needs. The resort is stunning. You can do as much or as little as your want, it truly is your vacation and time to spend however your want to spend it. The quiet pool and beach were fabulous were chilling while the main pool was more interactive. Overall, the food is very good. The breakfast and lunch buffet offered a lot of choices to fit everyone's tastes. The 5 restaurants - Mexican, Japanese, Italian, French, Steakhouse - My favorite was the French and my least favorite was Japanese. Scheduling dinners at these restaurants are very difficult - Expect your times to vary from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Cons: Upon arrival, the staff were very pushy about learning more about their club memberships. We felt like we couldn't schedule our dinners until we agreed to meet with a representative and attend the presentation. The gift we received for attending the club membership presentation were massages. The 50 - minute massage was just okay. While the staff told us in advance we could arrive 30 minutes early to utilize the spa facilities, they neglected to tell us we needed to bring our swimsuits, so we only utilized the quiet room. Hygiene - I contracted a stomach bug while on the resort. Half a day was I was laid up in bed feeling very sick. I was asked to fill out a sickness report but no one follwed up with me. Once I returned to the states, I tested positive for a bacterial infection. I had symptoms for 7 days. The shops on the resort are very expensive. A tube of sunscreen was $45. Conclusion - Knowing what I know now, I would return and would be better prepared to say no to their pushy sales tactics. I would also bring my own pharmaceutical supplies given the cost on the resort. I would also pack clothing like I was packing for a cruise ship.

Not used to being this spoiled

Our research did not prepare us for how large the resort property was. While Grand Paraiso is the Adults Only portion on the property, you also get access to the other 4 portions. It's huge! Driving through the secure gates put any thoughts of a Cancun area Threat Level Alert from the US government to rest. It's 100% safe at the resort. We were greeted at drop off by Ricardo, who was most gracious. Upon arrival, we were given cool towels to wash our hands and a delicious Welcome Drink! After connecting flights this was a very refreshing. I could go on and on about how much we enjoyed our time here, but I'll provide some highlights: 1. All the bartenders are trained impeccably. Special acknowledgement to Nalvy who went above and beyond to suggest and make cocktails based on our likes. 2. The views are great. Go down to the beach at Paraiso Beach (one of the other resorts on property). 3. Staff are all very friendly and go out of their way to help. Alejandro in the Maya lobby took the time to walk us over to the shopping center on property to help find a particular store we were having trouble locating (rather than just providing directions). We were really impressed with his help. 4. The quality and abundance of choices at the Grand buffet was astounding. Usually we equate buffet to lower quality. Not at all here. Charcuterie, fresh fruit, and cook to order stations at every meal, among other options. Before I seem like a paid influencer for the resort, there were a couple of minor things that I wish were different, but these are minor in the scheme of things. 1. The pools/hot tubs close at 7pm. It would be nice if at least a hot tub was open a bit later. 2. Since the buffet was so outstanding, the a la carte restaurants seemed less good by comparison. They were still good, but I guess we expected more given they were the "fancier" option. 3. There is no shade in the pool. While we get that this is a sun-seekers paradise, some respite from the sun while still being in the water would be nice. To be clear, there are cabanas and shaded chairs, just nothing over the water. When it was time to return to reality, Ricardo was again the one to see us off, perfectly bookending our trip. We were already making plans to return before we left.

    Beyond Amazing!

Iberostar Grand Paraiso Resort was beyond amazing! From the second we arrived on the property we were greeted by friendly faces from the Lobby and Bellmen staff. They gave us a refreshment and guided us to the check-in desk. We arrived early morning so it would be some time before getting our room. We received wristbands that allowed us to grabbed a breakfast & coffees in the buffet. It was delicious! Before we knew it our room was ready! Check-in was a breeze. The bellman carried our luggage and show us our room. Our room was so clean & beautifully decorated large room with a king bed, tv, double sink bathroom, two large closets, a stocked mini-fringe, coffee/ tea station, snacks, sitting area, small dining table set, a balcony with a large rattan swing and lounge coach. Just perfect! The maids did a fantastic job cleaning our room every day and a turn down service every evening with chocolates, slippers and robes! What a treat! All the food throughout our stay did not disappoint! Best we’ve ever had! Our favorites were Toni’s fillet, the French restaurant/L’Atelier lava cake show and some fresh shrimp tacos on the beach at La Brisa. Yumm! All of food servers & hostesses did everything possible to make our dining experiences most enjoyable. We especially loved seeing the hostess Janeth! Always smiling! Silvino at Toni’s did a phenomenal job taking care of us!! Thanks for taking pics with us! We couldn’t of enjoyed our trip as much we did without our sweet, friendly & most professional concierge Joseline to help us! She made our dinner reservations, helped us with any questions we had, and continued to check on us daily. She takes her job seriously and we could tell she truly cared. She found out it was our birthdays and surprised us with decorations in our room and special treats! Wow! Thank you! Great job Joseline! Iberostar Grand’s property was spectacular! We spent many days relaxing by the pool or on the beach. The grounds, gathering areas, spa, restaurants, bars, beaches and pools, just beautiful! I can’t forget, The entertainment crews who worked tirelessly, making sure everyone was having a great time! They seem to love their jobs! Theres also nightly shows and a shopping mall. So much to see here! You won’t be disappointed if you plan a trip here. We loved it and will return! Thanks Iberostar!!!

    Beautiful 5th visit in paradise

Another wonderful week at iberostar! We were fortunate enough to get married ocean front this week and overall had a wonderful experience. The resort grounds and ocean view was again absolutely breathtaking. The ocean front rooms are definitely the way to go, we spent majority of time at beach rather than pools as they tend to get loud/rowdy in the afternoons. The waiter, Lorenzo, on the beach was our favorite all week! He would check in every 15/20 minutes with us starting EARLY in the morning and never let drinks get low. Our room came with butler service, most of the time they seemed available but they were not over bearing. Our favorite place to eat was La Brisas patio for lunch - phenomenal tacos and nachos! Favorite dinner spots were the Fench and Italian....the steak place at the Maya actually turned out far superior to Tonis. We did utilize other some amenities at the Maya and Lindo complex as well, we especially love the coffee shops they have and the snake bar. Plus its fun to see all yhe wildlife roaming ln their resorts. This was our first time trying out Rhapsody bar, an absolute hidden gem! Some nights we weren't able to find seating in the main lobby bar, hopped right over and got tables and the BEST crafted mix drinks. We did experience some relatively minor drawbacks, when comparing it to previous years stays some of the "wow" factors simply weren't there this time. They seemed exceptionally short staffed compared to years prior. There were often 5 -10 minute waits for cart rides, room service took well over an hour and check in was not as we had experienced in our past visit. I think our mini bar only got stocked once in the week there. We checked in on a Saturday and still had to choose between 6pm or 9pm for dinner reservations at the Grand, but were able to get 730 for dinner over at the Maya. The sales pitch for the club was much much more aggressive this time. Usually a polite no in the lobby once or twice would suffice, this time they even tried to get us on the beach while we were in our loungers to sign up for the "presentation". Generally not a huge fan of the evening entertainment, the lobby singers and musicians were great but we didn't stay through for any of the shows. We were disappointed that you now have to pay for the theatre shows as that was a highlite on previous iberostar stays. At checkout they tried to charge me for my wedding ceremony package that had been paid in full months prior. Tacked on an extra 3k to our room bill that I almost paid. They do not show you the bill but rather go through and verbally state charges. After showing screenshots of receipts they were able to quickly adjust but that was a very unprofessional mistake to make. None of these ruined our trip obviously, we still had a wonderful time! When comparing to previous trips there was more decline in service and amenities rather than improvements, it simply wasnt the 5 stars we had both before and after covid. Will we be back? I'm confident in the next couple of years we will be, we love Mexico and getting the ocean front building is such a rare treat for most resorts in that area. We do plan on switching it up for our next visit though so that we have a better comparison in the future.
