Great Christmas Vacation!
We just got back from Iberostar Selection Playa Mita and had a lovely trip with our 18 month year old. Positives: 1. We've been to 5 different all inclusives in the Caribbean/Mexico region and this one easily had the best food! Buffet was great, fish tacos were AMAZING at the restaurant near the beach, beef burrito at the Mexican restaurant, yum! 2. Pool was great - especially the splash pad/kids pool area. It was even great for our 18 month year old. 3. Loved the drinks - nothing to complain about. 4. Staff was all amazing! 5. Beach was beautiful - zero seaweed, not rocky. 6. Everything was extremely clean and staff was great with Covid protocols. Negatives: 1. Resort is BIG! Expect a lot of walking. 2. Long walk down stairs to the beach. We wished the beach was a little easier to get to. 3. Rooms were outdated and beds were uncomfortable. 4. 45-50 minute ride from airport. Overall, we would definitely return!!!
ANDRES and CLAUDIO HOTTER !!!!
ANDRES and Star Band made my birthday celebration very memorable. ANDRES is a true gem in Star Band . ANDRES sings with soul and is very pleasant to listen to. Chef TONY and chef CLAUDIO HOTTER were amazing . My family members have a special diet and Chef CLAUDIO HOTTER was ALWAYS available to meet our dietary needs .
Great trip, beautiful place
Our family stayed at the Iberostar Playa Mita from Dec 15-21. We had a lovely time! The resort grounds are super clean and well maintained, the staff very friendly. The resort is in a very secluded region in Punta de Mita, which has it's pros and cons. The uncrowded beach where you can walk for miles is lovely. Not being able to leave the resort without an astronomically high pre-negotiated taxi rate kind of sucks. There is nothing walkable, so make sure to take everything you will need with you! The resort was charging $19 USD for a 20-pack of diapers for our baby. You will have privacy and security at this place, but without a rental car it is difficult to leave. The pools were clean, warm and there were plenty of loungers. Our daughters loved the kids pool and waterslides. Sadly, they were too young for the babysitting service which looked awesome! There were a few things that missed the mark slightly, which is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. First, we upgraded to an ocean front room, which was gorgeous. The windows and sliding door, however, hadn't been cleaned in well over a month or two. I understand that salt spray does a number on windows, but a quick wipe down between guests would go a long way, especially since you pay a significant premium for those rooms and want to enjoy the gorgeous view . While we loved the Japanese and Mexican restaurants, the steak house was not so great. The prime rib (their specialty) was served raw. Like zero rendering of the fat, not even warm. It also didn't have any sides or sauce, and no one came to check back so we couldn't ask for them. The buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner were all amazing with plenty of food options to try something new every day. Lastly, the concierge that was helping us make dinner reservations told us that we had to go on Sunday morning to make reservations for the Monday, however when we went on the Sunday, the concierge on duty that day told us that everything was booked up, that Saturday morning was when you had to reserve for the following week. Other than those minor things, we had a wonderful time and would stay here again. It's a very family-friendly resort which is perfect for our young family. Covid precautions were in place and we felt very safe indoors and outdoors.
Chef Christian is the best!
Chef Christian took care of our vegan/vegetarian dietary needs but providing us with a sumptuous dinner two nights in a row! We really liked Chef Christian's attitude and temperament to accommodate our dietary restrictions. We highly recommend talking to the Chef if you have specific food needs. Overall, the resort was operating at lower its capacity due to the Covid restrictions, but all the staff and most guests complied to wearing masks as necessary. The rooms are comfortable and we recommend the ocean-facing Junior suite - very convenient for both beach access and pool access.
So-so, but not as nice as advertised.
This is not one of the better all-inclusives we have stayed at in the Punta Mita/Puerto Vallarta area. On the plus side, the pool is beautiful and the beach is one of the best in the area. The bartenders are friendly and the service is attentive. The food, though, is far below average. The rooms are small and dated, but they do their best to make it comfortable. The ala carte restaurants are an embarrassment. We ended up leaving the resort almost every night to sample local restaurants with much better food. The best tequila in the all-inclusive plan is Hornitos reposado. They don’t offer a single anejo tequila with the all inclusive. This is very unusual for the area. The kids club is great and the activities are fun. But, having sampled many of Iberostar’s local competitors, it is unlikely we will return. Also, the pitches to join the “Iberostar club,” which is some sort of timeshare (although they swear it is not) are persistent and annoying. Various things were broken in our room, including the safe and the bedside lamp, were broken, and we couldn’t get them fixed. One night, in the lobby bar, some men became very drunk and obnoxious. They broke a light and were groping female staff. Security was slow to respond and the men were simply sent back to their rooms rather than evicted. Also, they gave us a coupon for a discount on our room upgrade, but then did not honor it at check out. They bill this as a five star resort, but it was more like 3.5.
