Our family came to spend a relaxing week. There are many hills but the shuttles are available to take you everywhere you need to go. We chose a tropical bungalow, it was definitely back in the wilderness. We are able to see different animals just there. We saw hummingbirds, coatimundis and iguana all around our bungalow. It was so neat seeing them in their natural habitat. The staff is all exceptional and there wasn’t anything to worry about during the whole thing. The resort works with Amstar and they handle all of your transportation to and from the airport as well as any excursion you may want to do. Again, nothing to worry about. It is all handled for you.

Amazing staff, fantastic resort and a beautiful country. This is not a brand new all inclusive resort so even though it's clean, we had a great time, food/drinks were wonderful, you have to over look some things. The staff is the reason you come to this resort. They are so accommodating and go out of their way to assist you. The food was very good-you are limited to basically 3 restaurants, so having a 4th or 5th option would work out really well. Rooms are interesting-small and the bathroom is in the middle of the room, but it was fine. Views were unbelievable the higher up you are. Resort is very hilly so if you are not in shape or a walker, this could be an issue. However, they provide shuttle vans which came in 2 minutes when you called for them so you did have an option. We walked some and other times called for the shuttle. Never a problem getting a shuttle and they ran them regularly. You do have to get down to the pool area early and grab your chairs by 6-7am. If not, you don't get a chair. Leaving a magazine, hat and towels worked fine for us. We just ate breakfast earlier at 6:30am every morning. You do have to call for bottled water and towels each day, so just a tip. Again, not a big deal. The water is fine to drink but we just prefer bottled water and we happen to like fresh towels each day. Excursion by Amstar was good. We went to the waterfalls, saw wildlife, toured Liberia the city and stopped at a shopping area on our way back. It's a long day but everywhere in this part of Costa Rica is a good hour to 2 hours away to see anything. Immigration/Customs took 2 hours when we arrived at the Liberia airport. Plan to wear a t shirt with zip up sweathsirt and capris or shorts so you don't sweat. So many planes coming in, it was crazy. The weather is hot, but not unbearable-we had a slight breeze throughout the day but it definitley was faint at night. It could get humid but all good. We didn't encounter any bugs/mosquitoes but I would recommend bug spray just in case-everyone brought it. Also, pack more sunscreen then you think you will need-you will go through it. We stayed 8 days and had a blast. Met some wonderful Mid West couples and lots of Canadians. It was a fun trip and we definitely will return! I miss it already!!
The people were the best part of this experience. Genuinely kind and happy. The food was not what we expected. We would have loved more Costa Rican cuisine and more fresh meats. The location was amazing. The drinks were great. But again, the people were the best. Because of the staff and the peacefulness of the resort, we will be back! It was a wonderful trip.
Nice for a week
This hotel was in a lovely setting, lovely grounds and views. The room we had was beautiful, spacious, well laid out and exceptionally clean with a lovely view. The food was excellent in the buffet and the a’la’carte restaurants. All of the staff were met and interacted with were so friendly, helpful and very welcoming. We did have one spa treatment each, myself had the mango wrap and body scrub which was amazing. My friend had a massage which she said was excellent. The only down side was there is absolutely nowhere to sit in the shade especially when the umbrellas were taken down due to high winds. The main pool is very noisy, there is the quiet pool however to get a seat there was almost impossible unless you get up at dawn. We did get up one morning for an early snorkel and got a lounger each, only to watch in amazement as one woman came and put towels/ clothing on 8 loungers in various positions so she and her partner could move around the pool and always have a shady spot!! Overall a nice place to stay.
We stayed two weeks at this resort. Our room #339 was a tropical view behind the spa. Easy walk to the quiet pool. Very quiet, lots of iguanas, parakeets, doves, hummingbirds, and a visit by a skunk. Everyday, at low tide, we walked the entire beach, from the main pool down towards the sap beach and then over the lava rocks, wearing water shoes, to the next sandy beach to see the crabs, hermit crabs, washed up shells, and the oldest Guanacaste tree in Costa Rica. There is also a Tamarind tree there that you can snap a shell and try it. Please remember to not remove any shells from the beaches.
