Secrets was the best resort I have been to. The workers are so engaging and wonderful to be around ,truly amazing people who care for their guest. Tania was the best, get energy is radiating. The activities are amazing. The resort overall was so easy to navigate and extremely helpful!! Howard and Donald were our people, they were our best friends Haha
the resort was stunning and we had a great room with amazing views looking over the ocean, on the whole the staff were fantastic and super friendly . food very average to substandard, the breakfast buffet which is usually a highlight in most 5 star restaurant's was just boring and lunch only slightly better. the japanese teppanyaki was terrible with the food given zero seasoning and just totally bland. we ate about 20% of it to be polite then went next door to the Italian to fill ourselves up. On Xmas day we were completely miss sold their gala dinner and then gifted a £120 bill for a bottle of wine that we didn’t even receive, we wrote a detailed e mail about how we felt we had been duped only to receive a very ‘standard’ response which didn’t answer any of the main points we highlighted.
Amazing place, amazing people
This was our second trip to this amazing, intimate resort. The location is wonderful, and the resort has everything you want, but not too big. Because the resort is small you see the same people repeatedly; after a week it starts to feel like a happy family. Our room looked out over the valley. Each morning we would wake up early and ope the doors to hear the calls of the howler monkeys at sunrise. Then we would lay in bed and watch the birds appear, flying past or hopping around in the bushes just outside. A pleasant walk to the main area for breakfast; wonderful food, buffet style or cooked to order. Then to plan the day: sunbed, drinks, swimming, water aerobics, lunch, fun games, more sun, walking on the beach, snorkeling, kayaking... always something to do, or nothing at all. Back to our room to freshen up for the evening. If the walk up the hill was too much, it's only a short wait for a lift. A choice of restaurants -- some to be booked in advance -- two weeks was not long enough to exhaust the menus! Evening entertainment that changed nightly. Best of all, the wonderful, wonderful staff. Everyone is genuinely friendly and attentive, but we really must give a special mention to Entertainment Diva Extraordinaire, Katherine, always gently nudging us into doing something fun. Her joyous welcome was like the sunshine that greeted us every day. And "our" waiter Erik, who quickly caught on to our preferred drinks orders and seating locations for breakfast and lunch. Together, they encapsulated the warmth of the people of this wonderful country. Because of them, and all the other staff, we will return again and again.
This is not a five star luxury hotel (4 at best)
This is a very pretty complex and most of the staff are very helpful and lovely. For us there was no welcome at all and our first room 465 was substandard and within 30 minutes of arriving after a very long journey we had 3 maintenance men repairing and sorting several issues. We moved to room 436 which was better with a lovely view. Throughout our holiday we had to continually asked for towel replenishment, coffee replenishment, and wait for up to an hour to get a seat to take our evening meal. food was good on the whole but were constantly asked to purchase wine and buy 6 course dinners (even on Christmas Day)! not what you expect from a 6.500 holiday!! The hotel is not accessible as it is built on a hill and is very tired in places, the lobby bar isnt even open and sunbeds are shabby!!. You can wait up to 25 minutes for transport. Definitely wont be using it or Secrets again, but will definitely return to Costa Rica. Very disappointed!
