    Best bartender ever!

Rudolfo “Rudy” helped make our stay at the Maya Riviera an experience to remember. His kindness and ability to make the perfect martini was the highlight of our group’s pre-dinner and post-dinner gatherings by the bar. If you stay at the Maya Riviera or any of the adjoining resorts, you have to go to the Maya Riviera lobby bar and ask for Rudy!

    Great bartenders

All employees are really nice here especially the bartenders at the main lobby bar, Rodolfo and José. They make great drinks and are very easy to make conversation with. My whole family is having a great time here!

Very much a downgrade from the past. (Star Prestige Experience)

We have Iberostar membership and we’ve been coming to Iberostar Paraiso Maya every year for the past five or more years. I would like to begin on a positive note by thanking the hardworking people who made our experience more enjoyable, and whose faces we look forward to seeing every year: Ivan and Hugo, the bartenders at Star Prestige who make the most delicious drinks with and without alcohol; Luis, who was our very attentive waiter first at the Italian restaurant, and then at Under the Sea; Isaac and Angel working at the Star Prestige area on the beach; Katia, the personal trainer who made sure our son got the best of his workouts. Thank you! My husband also enjoyed the spinning classes at the gym. Overall, however, I am sad to say that this year’s experience was disappointing, especially when it comes to Star Prestige concierge services. We booked our rooms almost 6 months in advance, and I made a note that we will need adjoining rooms since we are a family of 5 with 3 kids. Normally, we received an email from the concierge a month or so in advance asking for our preferences and reservation requests. Not this year. When I contacted member services about two weeks before our vacation, they said the hotel will get in touch with us—they didn’t. My emails to the concierge were unanswered. Finally, my husband called them, repeating the original request for adjoining rooms, a pull-out couch, and making dinner reservations. When we arrived, we had completely different dinner reservations (both times and restaurants), and we were told no adjoining rooms were available. Moreover, despite the room numbers being consecutive, our rooms weren’t even next to each other: one room was all the way around the corner with 2 or three rooms in between. This may seem like a minor nuisance to some, but when you travel with a toddler and two other kids and pack many items to be shared as a family, it makes a big difference. Interestingly, when our friends, who are not members, arrived a couple of days later, they got two rooms next to each other. It is beyond my comprehension why with 6 months between the reservation and our arrival they couldn’t assign adjoining rooms to a family with young children. Next, our room did not have a pull-out couch or extra bed (another request we made in advance), but we were assured it would be provided. However, when we got to the room after dinner with a tired toddler, no bed was prepared for him. We had to call again and wait. Like many other guests have noted, the quality of the food—something Iberostar has always been known for—is significantly down. When we tried to order lobsters from the menu, both at the Steak House and at another restaurant, we were told there are no lobsters because “it’s not the season.” Why in the world would you have them on the menu then? We come here every year at the same time, and this was the first “season” without lobsters. The Christmas dinner was very unimpressive. The housekeeping service has deteriorated as well. We left the room around 9 every day and came back after 12 to put our toddler for a nap, and many times the room was not cleaned. Towels have not been changed regularly (and look old), and the minibar has not been restocked once during our 10-day stay. No soap, comb, shower cups, etc. were provided like in the glorious past. You could see trays with room service leftovers left for hours, if not days, outside the rooms, with birds and animals making a mess of it. My parents stayed in a different room for 7 nights, and their room had a serious ant infestation problem. The water and ice dispenser did not work on our floor from day one, and has not been fixed when we left 10 days later. The water in the pool was fine for the first half of our vacation but got really cold (and dirtier) as the nights got colder, and the pools were obviously not heated. We were leaving on Christmas day, and I took my son to the splash area shortly before we checked out: the knee-high pool was freezing! Throughout our stay, I couldn’t help but feel that the best days of Paraiso Maya are over. We’ll miss the past 5-star experience, but I think next year we will book our vacation at a different location.

    Family dinner

Irving was our waiter and he was great. Our family of 7 went for the first time and the food was delicious! I would recommend the Manhattan steak and the cheesecake for dessert!! Can’t wait to go back and have dinner there again!
