Had a GREAT time!
We’ve just returned from a 2 week stay at this resort, and we had a wonderful time! I agree with some of the reviews that the place could do with a lick of paint, and there were a couple of moments where the water was just a trickle, which was a little annoying.. However, the room we stayed in (5008) was lovely! We had a jacuzzi on our balcony.. I don’t necessarily agree about the food.. We ate at the Portafino restaurant most nights and it was absolutely delicious! The staff there are exceptional! They are helpful, friendly and work so hard, especially Juan in the Sunclub bar.. The workers who clear the seaweed from the beach are amazing.. On our first day, the beach and sea was THICK with seaweed and within a couple of days, the whole lot was gone, and all that was left was beautiful white sand and clear blue sea! The location is perfect! We walked along the beach one evening and had some food and drinks at the Bikini Bar and watched the baby turtles be released into the sea 😊 .. We visited the Mayan Ruins and the Cenote Lagoon, which was a magical experience.. Just a 15 minute drive away from the resort is Akumal Bay, where you can snorkel with a guide and see turtles, puffer fish, squid, rainbow fish etc.. It was a fantastic 2 weeks, don’t be put off by negative reviews!
Oh what a beautiful morning……
My husband and I had a wonderful vacation to Sunscape Akumal last week. We have been to Akumal many times in the past and love the beautiful beaches there. This was our first time staying at this resort. We were very impressed with the beach, pools, the rooms, the quality of service the attentiveness of the staff and of course the food and drinks. This is our first time to a family friendly property. We typically stay at adults only, but wanted to try this resort out as well. We stayed in a SunClub room and used the adults only amenities and honestly we weren’t bothered with the children. We spent most of our days by the beach soaking up the sun and taking in the beautiful ocean views. Definitely check this resort out with your family, friends, or spouse.
The service was non existent the number of staff members compared to the number of visitors was severely lacking. The resort looked very neglected and is in need of some TLC. The room we stayed in had a balcony door that had obviously been repaired numerous times, but still scraped the floors and was difficult to lock. The food was not very good and the choices were very limited. The romantic beach dinner was ruined by us being eaten up by bugs. In outdoor restaurants in Cancun they provided bug spray to minimize this. Perhaps this resort good take a cue from them. The best part of the stay was certainly the beach. It was gorgeous, but not as well maintained at the Secrets resorts a couple of miles away.
AMAZING place for vacay
My husband and I stayed at the Sunscape Akumal Beach Resort & Spa All-Inclusive in Akumal Mon Sept 19-Fri Sept 23, 2022. This property is amazing. The location is perfect and the Resort is gorgeous. Upon arrival we were greeted and made to feel valued and appreciated. All of the resort staff were friendly and very very helpful. Our room was very open and roomy. It had everything we needed for our stay and the bed was very comfortable. We only visited 3 of the pools and they were clean no chemical smell and very refreshing. Bars had anything you could want to make a drink with. Also, the resort had a drink of the day everyday and that was so much fun. We ate breakfasts at Windows and room service and the options and food quality were perfect. Lunches we ate the popups that had a different theme every day and they were amazing. For diners we ate at The Olive Branch, Portofino and Tiki Taco and then last night we did the dinner on the beach package. All were so good we felt very spoiled and very impressed with the quality of food and service. As for the beach you could not have asked for a more beautiful place. Clean sand and clear water my husband snorkeled right from our room terrace everyday and almost the whole trip. I had seen a lot of negative reviews before we went on the trip and was terrified about what we had gotten ourselves into. The negative reviewers are completely wrong. We are already looking at dates to go again and again and again. We truly loved this resort.
Nice hotel 5yrs ago no doubt…. Specially for the price
So we booked a week stay at Sunscape akumal beach resort &spa. This wasn’t a cheap hotel for a week, we got to the room after a long journey, the aircon was&off and it was loud thankfully to tired to care till the next morning, the bed sheets had stains on them and No towels in the room, We woke up, cockroach dead by our front door (clearly that wanted out) come out on the balcony and we paid for a beachfront view which it wasn’t! Went to reception to complain the staff was helpful to an extent of new sheets and towels, and fix the aircon. (Prob turned off and on again) as for the room with a view they said I had booked a beach partial oceanfront view… for which I replied I wouldn’t of paid that much extra for a suite with partial view of the ocean… they offered another room two doors down with slightly better view but still not what we paid for.. we declined That was about as helpful As the staff got… The food was good on average only because u had a choice of 4/5 restaurants if not could of been same meal each night. When u look round the restaurants u can see it is well over due for a good tidy up and a good deep clean, fresh paint the hotel feels old and run down which is a shame. The staff wore masks as a mandatory and we was told we had to when entering or walking round the restaurant. Yet friends in another hotel didn’t but the staff at their hotel did. This may not bother most but when u go down for dinner and forget ur mask u have to go back to the room get it as they do not provide them which is abit frustrating 3 times a day! Overall I would not stay at this resort again or recommend anyone else to save the money and spend it else where.
