I was worried reading all the negative reviews however, after staying a week I can honestly say we had a great time. We reserved our stay on Cheapcarribean and decided to upgrade to the Deluxe Walkout Pool View. My husband and I work in the hospitality industry, and we know what to look for. Our room was a little dated, but it was clean and all the amenities were there that the website described. It was great to come back to the room after all day on the beach and take a dip in the quiet pool or sit in the evening after the entertainment to read and relax. Our room came with a bottle of wine, rum, or tequila. IF this is something that came with your reservation then you need to remember to see the concierge to set up the delivery of which one you want. The soft white sand of Akumal beach is worth the trip. We used one of the comfortable cabanas each day. Farid was very nice and attentive with fresh towels if needed. The staff worked each day to clean the beach of seaweed that washes in each night. The amazing fish especially the Sargent Majors are not afraid of you at all and will swim all around you. We brought our own snorkeling gear and had a fantastic time exploring the reefs. My friends used the paddle boards and I had fun kayaking. Our favorite place for a drink was Sharky’s Bar. Each day they had two drink specials one with alcohol and one without. Sometimes we would choose the nonalcoholic drink and added rum, vodka, or tequila and came away with something really yummy. Just see Carlos as he makes the best drinks and is a nice person. The adult only swim up bar at the infinity pool was great too. We did not get to use the other pool near the kid’s area and grill. However, that pool also had a swim up bar for adults and a swim up bar just for the kids. Great idea! The entertainment each night was different. The staff thought outside of the box showcasing many of the resort areas you may not see, to use as a venue for the shows. We enjoyed all the entertainment and the fun activities such as bingo at the infinity pool, Elements show in the evening over near the grill and dinner on the beach for all the resort guests. The Windows buffet restaurant had a variety of breakfast and lunch options. Rosy at the omelet station was great. My favorite was the French toast. We greeted each morning with a mimosa or a mojito. BTW tropical mimosas are awesome! Every night we would choose a different dinner venue. Just like in the states some restaurants are open on different days so check ahead. The staff at each restaurant were very friendly and made you feel welcome. I found dishes at each place that I really enjoyed. I could keep going but to sum it up we had a very enjoyable vacation. Thank you Sunscape!
We were so spoiled by them! It’s our second time being there. And we love it!
This our second visit and we completely love it! Our FAVORITE DEPARTMENTS were ROOM SERVICE, (Raul, Juan, Roe, Jorge, Olivia, Araceli, y Rafael are the best, thanks guys 😘) and the BUFFET service in the morning at the buffet was exceptional ☺️ ( Raul, Rigoberto, Edgardo, Lilian and the Capitan were amazing, thank you so much). Room always clean 🙂and last but not least the COCO CAFE 😍 (Lorena and Olivia are super nice). The bellboys are super helpful and wonderful! (Niger, Jesus, Fredy, Dani, and Romeo, thanks for everything) DOWNFALL this is for mommies with kids with disabilities (it will make me really think if I go back or not) There was only one thing I wasn’t happy with, the management at the Kids club. My oldest son (6 years old) is autistic, since he was 2 we have done everything, try every therapy so he can be social. In everything single hotel of the AMREsorts chain we have being in (Dreams, Now, and Sunscape) we have felt amazing and grateful with the staff at the kids club, all of them have being so understanding and caring. Even the management before at Sunscape akumal; however, In the words of of the new manager Gigi, the girls at the kids club are not capable or watching a kid with a disability like AUTUSM. (Even though the first time my son was there) she said I was welcome to hire a babysitter form the hotel or go inside with him to watch him. Obviously I never get in because I felt uncomfortable with the parents of other kids since is only for kids. For all the time being there my son wanted to get in I felt terrible. That really will make me think twice if I’ll go back. No time to rest at all lol. The Dinoland was great so he can have a great time there! Fir the rest really I love the hotel but mostly the service, 🥰 they are the best!
People and Beach, keep coming back!
Next month will be our 4th or 5th visit to this hotel, under different names during the time. We love to snorkel off the beach and this is one of the best beaches that we have found in the area. Last time we were there on a 3 week visit in 2019, my spouse contracted Dengue fever, while we were out and about. Lucky for us, there was a Dr onsite who helped us thru daily! I have always found the staff excellent, however on this trip, the ladies at the coffee shop, went above and beyond!!!, they had herbal tea and soup ready for me to pickup for him, they even went on time off to purchase us large tea containers, as a gift. These women, Noemi, Noely and Lorena truly saved my mind! Outstanding service and skills, great friends that i could talk to and lean on and honestly seemed as concerned as i was. Their compassion in such a situation gave me the strength i needed to help my spouse thru, he recovered a few days before we flew home, Im glad it was a 3 week stay, we needed all of it! SO.. we are coming back for 3 weeks to re-do that fateful trip, and cannot wait to see staff that we see most years (excluding Co-vid years!) We have never stayed in the Sun Club, we have stayed at the back, jungle view, and across from the Coco cafe, now pool view ...this year it is partial ocean view in the condos....I cant wait. The food is good here, although we have not tried any room service, the buffet is not enormous, but it is all excellent, we do not like the dress-up affair so generally do not go to a-la-cartes. We have never been sick or even upset stomach from the food, I have food allergies to poultry, and have never gone hungry. I find it easy to get around, as the Collectivo stops right in front of the hotel, never waited long! Stay after stay, great beach, great staff, great food and great atmosphere.....although ....the music at the beach bar was ALWAYS somewhat horrible and I hope it has changed!
Great Staff, Great Location, Great Price!
We were a bit concerned prior to arriving since a few travelers gave this resort such terrible ratings. However we were pleasantly surprised to spend a wonderful week here at the Sunscape. Both my wife and I are in the hospitality business and we know what to look for. At the same time, we also understand reality. With covid still in the mix, the Sunscape did not take this lightly with full maskes needed in buildings except while eating and drinking. This also limited their venues for nightly entertainment and the staff went out of their way to "think outside of the box" to provide outside venues around the resort to anchor their unique yet satisfying entertainment features. Our favorite was "Element" a dazzling light and music show. We also found the cuisine to be quite satisfying! The Buffet had nearly everything anyone could ever want with fare from the exotic to the everyday. Breakfasts could feature a custom omelet made by Rosy or eggs to order as well as fresh fruit, numerous salads, meats, cheeses and the fish was plentiful and varied. Restaurants were all good to excellent with a cozy small feel. We tended to eat early, avoiding the rush after 7. The pools were all in good condition and all had clean and clear water. Swim up bars where fun and the entertainment staff always had something going on in the afternoons to keep the party going. Then there is the Beach. . . Gorgeous white sand kissed by the turquoise and blue Caribbean with Sargent Major fish swimming about. We laughed about one complaint about having to sleep on the beach, which has bed style cabanas all tended by Farid who took good care of us all week long. We would have loved to sleep on the beach overnight! Drinks for the most part were very good, however with the language barrier, sometimes mistakes were made, but its all inclusive. . . Why complain? Our room had all the amenities expected, yes some were dated but not terribly dated, and again, we are realist and we know this is not a place where glam and glitz are the norm, nor is it expected to be. The grounds were well tended to with an attention to detail. There are many pools and water features as well as an array of plantings to ensure a wide variety of color and texture. We left wanting more but reality beckoned us back. We would recommend the Sunscape to anyone, especially families with small children since they have several pools and parks designed with kids in mind. I hope this helps anyone looking to book here.
Fabulous time! Great staff!
This hotel was great! The staff went out of their way to help you. The room was so big there was an echo! My husband I stayed for 7 days and there was not anything I can think of that wasn’t fabulous. The Italian restaurant had delicious pastas and sauces but my favorite was the octopus at the Mexican restaurant. Best octopus I have ever had! The ocean was filled with colorful fish that loved to swim all around you. We snorkeled and paddle boarded everyday. We would go back again! If you go, see Carlos at Sharkys bar near the ocean, he makes the best drinks!
