Staff stepped up for Hurricane Ida
We stayed for four days… Two days prior to Hurricane Ida, and two days after…. I was very impressed with the way the hotel and staff responded to the disaster the hurricane left behind. We had no running water or power for days, and the staff was cool, calm, collected. Renee and her son Ashton were very friendly and personable and helped us out so much. They were very selfless and kind. I would stay here 100 times more… just without the hurricane of course
Mixed experience not for everyone.
The hotel is in a good location pretty much within walking distance to most places in the city. The service in the hotel everywhere was efficient. It is a very large convention style hotel that dealt well with large crowds. My room was on the 18th floor and had a nice view towards the river. The bed and the TV seemed new and good. That said the rest of the room and the hotel felt old and dated. While nothing in my room was broker, the age showed. The ceilings were low, the bathroom shower was old and ugly, the room had a smoky smell in parts and the room was too dark. The electric in the room had issues as a hair dryer kept blowing out the circuit. My biggest worry is the security in the hotel. While there were many security guards and personnel in the hotel, there was no security in the elevators. Anyone could go into an elevator and gain access to the floor. Considering the location and the business of the hotel, room card security should be in the elevators, or at least have a guard checking room keys. We didn't encounter any issues, but to me it was noticeable. The hotel had a pool which given the often hot weather in New Orleans would be a nice place to relax. However, like most things with the hotel the area was old and should be updated. The two pools were both nice size for a rooftop and the seating area was good. However, the pool deck needed new furniture and some type of service would be nice. It would really do alot for the hotel if they made this improvement. The room rate we paid in August, was very fair and if you are just looking for a place to sleep near the French Quarter, this hotel is a good option, despite the issues I listed which may or may not bother someone.
Premier Location and Marriott Excellence
As I disclose I am a travel agent. In addition I rec'd a slightly discounted rate as I am a travel agent. While Canal Street is a major thoroughfare the Marriott, once inside is an oasis of calm. While the lobby area is busy at all hours as this is a large convention centric hotel doubtful one would choose the Marriott if their desires orient to a smaller, boutique style hotel. Check-In was easy and efficient. Please note touch-less check-in is available. Of note one can rq. no housekeeping if concerned about Covid, a choice we chose. We were provided with a high floor room with both a river and city view. The room was large, efficiently laid-out and being a corner, the views were phenomenal day and night. As is typical with most Marriott's the room works for both business and vacation use. As I was visiting on business I was most appreciative of the work desk but more importantly the multiple outlets including built-in USB charging options. While I usually carry multiple charging cubes the USB outlets are most welcome. The king bed was extremely comfortable as was all the furniture in the room, The closet is efficient including offering an ironing board/iron, hangers, a safe and shelving. Of course there is a dresser with drawers. Each floor has an ice machine and con-operated drinks. We did enjoy breakfast in the lobby as the business lounge was closed due to being a weekend. Due to Covid the breakfast is served to you by an attendant. There is also grab and go options. Of note noise can be an issue on two fronts. From the exterior as the hotel is located on Canal Street there can be some noise infiltration. While more on a din, some may be impacted. Interior, while noise from other rooms was not an issue with the older, solid core doors, doors opening and closing can be noticed in the room. With New Orleans known for its nightlife not uncommon for guests to be arriving back to their rooms in the middle-of-the-night. While I believe most guests are courteous, one of our neighbors kept going in and out of their room at 3A which did disturb one night's sleep but not to the point of complaining. May consider installing foam stripping around door frames to lessen the impact of closing doors. There are many large, convention centric hotels in the area. If desiring a more upscale experience within the Marriott family there is a JW Marriott within a fw blocks on a quieter portion of Canal St about 2-3 blocks away.
Quick weekend in NOLA!
Good location and that’s about it. The property is dirty, loud and after two days I am ready to leave. The noise outside is unbelievable, no one answers the phones at the reception, again dirty I am stressing this again. People are not wearing mask despite Covid-19 central in Louisiana.
Room was clean and service was great! We requested early check in and was able to get into our room around 12 p.m. on a Friday. The room was clean but the beds were rock hard. We were fine with it though because you can’t beat this location!!! Love being on the edge of the quarter but still on canal street so that I didn’t have to stress about driving down crappy side streets flooded with people. Checkout was a breeze with the app and valet was speedy with returning the car. I assumed it was going to take 15-20 minutes for them to retrieve my car from off site, but it only took 1-2 mins!! The down side was the shower, shower head wasn’t adjustable but was stuck pointing straight at the wall. And then the towel bar in the shower was broken… odd but overall great experience. Will be re-booking in the future
