Amazing service. The staff are delightful! Very clean and COVID safe.
I went to this resort on my own with the sole purpose of getting some rest after a very very tough year as a small business owner trying to survive the pandemic. All the staff made me feel completely pampered, actually, like royalty. I enjoyed amazing massage and facial treatments by Lucely almost daily. The Olive Branch restaurant was my favorite - Rigoberto made it feel like a ultra-fine dining experience and the food quality was outstanding. Starting my mornings with a delicious mocha made by Noeli made me feel like I was with family. All the staff went out of their way to remember my name and what I liked. The grounds were just beautiful and the seasonal beach seaweed was cleared away daily to keep it looking picturesque. Although it pained me to see all the staff wearing masks at all times, even outside, the COVID -safety and cleanliness standards were very high. The guests also were respectful in this regard so, overall, it felt like a very safe place to be. To manage the buffet situation with COVID, all the sides were offered on separate small dishes and the wait staff brought your cutlery and condiments to your table for you, so there were no common-touch surfaces. Just to provide some balance to my review, my only complaint was that the buffet options for vegetarians were disappointing. Guacamole was only available a few days I was there and I would have eaten it every day if I could. Don't forget to bring your own snorkel gear because it's a great snorkeling beach but they are not loaning out snorkels currently due to COVID. Also, I heard sunscreen was very expensive in the gift shop so don't forget to bring plenty. If you like to have your pick of the best beach loungers and don't like crowds, it's a GREAT time to visit!
Wonderful week! We especially loved all the crew at the sunscape club breakfast in Portifino restaurant. Gerry and Antonio were amazing and professional! Also loved the crew at Olive Branch restaurant. They bend over back to meet your needs!!
I don't think all of the resort was renovated in 2019
I usually stay at newer resorts but I took a chance with this one because it said it was renovated in 2019. I think some parts were renovated but not the entire hotel, especially the rooms. The layout was very confusing and we had to use the stairs to the third floor of our room. There were no clocks in the room and our phone was not labeled at all to reach the front desk, room service, etc. I booked the Sun Club and was surprised at check in that we were not offered a drink. In the Sun Club lounge you could walk outside to mini plunge pools but there was no wait service there and I was surprised there were only plunge pools and no jacuzzi. In fact there was no jacuzzi by any of the pools. You always saw people cleaning and fixing the hotel but there were some places in the common areas that I felt could have been cleaned more. They did a great job of cleaning up the seaweed on the beach. The beach and water are gorgeous. I thought the food was good and the service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. A shout out to Roxana in VIP services who went above and beyond to help my friend who got sick (it wasn't COVID). The entire staff all wore masks and masks were enforced in all restaurants. Overall this is a family resort and we only saw families and couples. I knew this when I booked but if you are looking for something a little more upscale and adults only Secrets down the street would be a better option and worth the extra money. For families with children I think this is a great resort.
A beautiful resort and location with OUTSTANDING KID-FRIENDLY options
My wife and I absolutely loved our time in Sunscape Akumal. From the moment we turned into the delightful, well-kept and beautiful jungle entrance, we knew we were coming into a special place. Cesar and Niger were amazing bell boys who managed our significant luggage load with such cheer and fun. Even when we discovered the lift was broken to our third floor room. Felicitas was so friendly and helpful at check-in and also arranged for a room change and upgrade 😮 when there was a maintenance issue in our original room. She also helped us very kindly with some health food needs we had throughout our stay! Amazing! Thanks, Feli! Eulalia was our super happy housekeeper who went above and beyond in looking after us and our room. Noeli was an INCREDIBLE friend and helper in Coco Café and did SO much to brighten our days with her special drip coffees she always made for me piping hot! Raúl was our favourite waiter in the breakfast restaurant (Windows) and always got it right with what we asked him. Carlos (at Sip&Dip) was always trying to make sure I did not die of thirst and was so creative with drinks he offered me. Concierge Levi planned a super snorkelling and "cenotes" trip for me with Cancun Adventures. This hotel is REALLY kid-friendly and has SO MANY well thought out areas for families to enjoy. The whole lay out of the hotel allowed for quiet areas and the rambunctious for families and/or grown ups who wanted that. Excellent. Never seen the like of this. And we loved the wildlife coming in - peahens, coati, agouti, iguanas and lizards, as well as pelicans dive bombing fish in the sea and also some very cheery and mischievous birds around the property and singing you awake. The food was really of a high standard as a whole. However, with the Windows restaurant as the only breakfast place (with substantial food options) and only place open (with healthy food) during the lunch hours, as a couple with health challenges and need for healthy food we were denied the access to other restaurants due to the fact they only opened inn the evening, when our medical requirements did not allow us to eat! A suggestion would be to have more options for bigger lunch meals. Having only ONE healthy option got boring and tedious over our long stay. But, thanks again to Felicitas for arranging things for us SO kindly to circumvent our problems with food options!
I just spent a few days and I can tell I had the greatest time, the facilities are nice and clean, the STAFF is so nice, they remember our names and help in any way that we need it. The food is amazing, the Chefs that we meet Diego (main) and Julio (Tiki taco restaurant) provided a true Mexican Cuisine Experience. They took the time to come out for every meal and explain the origin of the food and ingredients. They made my family and I feel special and well taken care of. THANK YOU BOTH! The hotel is great for family and friends. The beach is beautiful (you can see the fishes swimming around your feet), the pools are clean, the swim-up bar was open. Also, the coco cafe was open 24/7, which allowed us to always have a snack or something to eat....I would definitely recommend it!
