Disappointing Stay at a Marriott Property – Poor Housekeeping & Communication
We stayed at the Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel for 3 nights in June 2025, and it was unfortunately the worst hotel experience of our entire Hawaii trip. Despite being a Marriott property, the room was never cleaned during our entire stay. We checked in on June 6 and noticed the coffee machine was broken on the 7th. We assumed housekeeping would handle it—but nothing was cleaned or fixed. When I called the front desk, I was told housekeeping is only available every other day—something that was never mentioned at check-in. By the 8th night, the room was still a mess, the coffee machine still broken, and the shower had flooded the bathroom floor due to poor design. We also noticed a dead bug on the lamp that stayed with us throughout the trip and a malfunctioning AC monitor that made adjusting the temperature impossible. I tried to raise these concerns again when we checked out early on the 9th. The front desk apologized and said they’d follow up with a compensation plan—but it’s now been over a month with no response. That lack of follow-through is shocking from a Marriott. Even the concierge service—outsourced to a third party—was unhelpful. I strongly recommend not booking anything through them. This hotel was not the cheapest, but it was easily the worst value of all the places we stayed across Honolulu, Maui, and Big Island. I expect much better from Marriott and will think twice before booking with them again.

Loved this place. Expensive, though.
Price is the only negative to the Courtyard King Kamehameha, but that's a deal-breaker for many travelers; that's why I'm starting with it. The price would've been a deal-breaker for me, too, when I was in my 20s and 30s. AirBnB might be a better place to look before you look here. All right, let's move on to the positives, then. First of all, it's pretty. A country as beautiful as Hawaii deserves hotels as beautiful as this one. The rooms are attractive and come with all the expected hardware (although we would've appreciated a microwave oven to heat our muffins). The facility has a small but pleasant pool and a jacuzzi. Very nice fitness center. The beach is tiny but attractive, and a guest can watch the launch of outrigger canoes. Food and drinks were uninspired: mahi-mahi and mai tais, just like literally every other Hawaiian eatery, But hey, if you just walk out the front entrance, there's restaurants all around you. Speaking of the neighborhood outside, I strongly recommend the Hulihe'e Palace, a short walk away along the attractive sea wall. Excellent historical site. Overall, this place is well-worth the premium price for those of us who are lucky enough to afford it.

Great hotel and great location
Great location within walking distance of many bars, restaurants and shops. Nice pool and many stores in the hotel. Room was nice and bathroom was good sized. The beach is smaller than the photos would indicate but we did not use it, looked like many families enjoyed it.

No need to rent a car!
We had a fantastic time, and no issues at all. They were the co-sponsors and site for the Hawai’i Kuauli Pacific & Asia Cultural Festival. That was an amazing event! We also booked our room with breakfasts included--that is the way to go! Because it is in the downtown of Kailua-Kona, you don't need to rent a car. So many things within walking distance! And tours pick up from the hotel. Some people say the place is dated...those people are spoiled! It was perfect for us.

Fine hotel with a great location in Kailua-Kona
This is a nice hotel located right on Kamakahonu Beach. We really enjoyed the Hawaiian artwork and artifacts on display throughout the property. There are several cafes onsite along with an ABC store that is open late. The location is great, just a short walk from all the restaurants and shops on Ali'i drive. The room itself was in great shape, with ocean/Hawaiian decor and a cool balcony. It was perfectly clean and the beds were very comfy. Service was quick and friendly. It was a little pricey, but given the amenities and location, it's worth it and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
