    Fantastic family getaway

We traveled here during COVID as a family of 5. We didn’t know what to expect. Everything was fantastic. Capacity was low and that made it much more relaxed. The property was clean and sanitary. The staff was very concerned about following protocols. They had testing facilities on site. The restaurants weren’t operating at full capacity which made it tough to get something to eat on off schedule times, but we were able to figure out the schedule quickly. The Star Club was the highlight of the week for our 7&9 year old sons. They did a fantastic job keeping the kids engaged in the programs teaching them about the culture, the ocean and arts. We barely saw them the whole trip. We also took advantage of the babysitting services for our 20 month old. The rooms were perfect size and the staff was so accommodating! It was a fantastic way to gett some r&r after a very stressful year. We would definitely recommend it to family & friends.

Our 2nd visit in 6 months

This resort is HUGE, but it has become one of our favorites so far. My husband and I have friended a few of the scuba dive instructors, and that's why we went back. Eliana Vidal (scuba instructor)! She's very helpful and fun! If you're interested in learning scuba, go see her!

    Fantastic resort, great safety precautions

This was my third visit to this resort, specifically staying at the Maya. Obviously, things are a little different now than they were 5 years ago when I last visited, but none of the changes materially impacted my enjoyment of the resort. Guest safety is clearly their #1 priority, but they also seem to take staff safety seriously as well, which is important both in terms of respecting your staff and stemming the spread of the virus. A few of the restaurants were closed, but we still had tons of options for dinner. The drinks were still just as delicious, the food just as fantastic, and the staff still just as wonderful and helpful! One new addition since my last visit was Sunrise Yoga on the beach - I am *not* a morning person, but I do enjoy both beaches and yoga, so I decided to check it out early in my trip. And I loved it so much that I came back 5 times over my stay - if I wasn’t going on an expedition, I was up early for yoga. Coach Isis put together a great series of poses that help set you up for a wonderful day, whether you overindulged the night before or swam so much your legs are aching. This one addition greatly increased my enjoyment of my vacation and my overall level of relaxation once I returned home. I recommend both the resort and the yoga wholeheartedly!

    Did not dissapoint!

My husband and I, and our 13 year old daughter stayed at IB Selection Paraiso Maya from 4/5-4/11 during a spring break. This was our first stay at this resort. In the past we stayed at IB Paraiso Del Mar however it was many years ago, and we also stayed at IB Selection Bavaro in Punta Cana 2 years ago. Iberostar does not dissapoint. We had a fantastic vacation even during the Covid times. The place was not at capacity and felt very roomy. The pools are large and we had plenty of room to spread out and not invade anyone's space. The temperature of the water was just perfect in April. The lazy river was very relaxing. My daughter enjoyed the slides as well. The food was better than what we expected after reading some reviews and we can be picky. We did not get sick and this is very important to us. I also have to mention "Star Cafe" as their hot or iced coffee was superb and you must try their peach iced tea! The ocean was amazing. We had 3 red flag days, and 3 yellow flag days. My daughter enjoyed the waves and boogie boarding. I prefer when the ocean is calmer so we both got what we wanted. There was a very small amount of sea weed when we were there and it was picked up every day. We were still able to enjoy the water. I understand that this is seasonal. I was really hoping it would be minimal since the beach is very important to us and a lot of sargassum can ruin it. The resort was very clean and perfectly manicured. The workers were all very friendly and work hard every day. Our room was cleaned perfectly every morning and the fridge was refilled every day. We loved the location of our room in building 61, we were given a pool view which was greatly appreciated! The beds were very comfortable, pillows so-so, they are a little bit hard. My daugher enjoyed the hammock on the balcony. My other favorite part was the size of the room. We have been to many resorts in Mexico but IB Maya had the biggest and most comfortable layout of the room. We also liked the second door leading into the hallway as you can close it and not disturb others if they are still sleeping. The closets are in that area as well and are great in size. We have agreed that we would definitely return to this resort and we usually like to try a different place when we choose our vacation.

    Great Choice for Families

Stayed late April 2021 - if you have any COVID concerns, the property takes it very seriously, they are super-safe, all staff wears masks, even a landscaper outside without a guest within 100 yards is wearing a mask in 88 degree weather, kind of feel bad. I had seen walk-through videos before arriving, but the property is really large! We were lost a couple times the first 2 days. TIP #1: Download the Iberostar app before arriving and use it for the map and to know dining and entertainment options. The pools are great for kids (and adults), I can't guess the capacity, but I know at 9am we were often the ONLY ONES in the entire giant pool, so I'd say they're running maybe 25% capacity after Spring Break and Easter, April and May are a great time to go. TIP #2: Bring your own Floaties - we brought our own, went to Wal-Mart and picked them up for $10 while the shop on site according to guests was selling the same ones for $30-$50. There are 7 water slides and they are fun. Combine that with the wave pool and the lazy river and the larger pools, plus the beach, and the kids stayed busy for 3.5 full days and never got bored. TIP #3: There are hidden rocks in the ocean, and no warning signs. Almost got injured, and learned to stay on the left side or right side of the beach, in front of the lifeguard towers it is safe and sandy. We thought the food was great, for as many people as they are cooking for, they put out a huge spread, great variety and great quality. I do agree with another guest review that said the fruit wasn't that fresh, I agree with that and was a little disappointed there. TIP #4: KNOW YOUR ENEMIES --> Your enemies are the Coatamundis (Coatis) and black birds. The Coatis are extremely cunning, they will find any food in your bag whether it is at the pool or the beach, and we saw people swarmed by 6+ Coatis for their french fries at the beach, you really have to guard your food from them. The black birds are also at the beach but also in the breakfast buffet restaurant. So you learn not to leave your food unattended, the birds will sample anything unattended. Our group had a little trouble securing restaurant reservations, the restaurants are running at 50% capacity (COVID) and...I can only advise you to be as $creative$ as you can, try the hostess, the server, the concierge and see if you can $ecure something. Nightly entertainment was great, and they have a crew at the beach and the main pool running activities/games through the day, they do a great job, and commend them on the effort. All in all, really felt like it was a great experience, we did not need to leave the resort once over 5 days, totally safe, not much hassles other than the restaurant reservations, the beds were "full size" instead of Queen size and sagged in the middle, but all in all the families would return again.
