Unhappy with room location and noise level from live music
After a long summer of dealing with Covid myself , and caring for a loved one who had long term complications from Covid, I decided my teenage daughters and I needed to treat ourselves to a little rest and relaxation. When we first checked in to room 2206 I was excited because we had a nice view overlooking the hotel patio. Early in the evening the live music started, and I thought that was cool too. But then I wanted to relax in my room and I simply couldn't because the live music was so loud I could hear every word and note from my room even with the balcony door closed. I thought about asking for a new room, but worried it would too much hassle. At 8pm, I figured it would stop at 9pm and I could go to bed and get a good night's sleep. But the music carried on until 10pm. It was difficult to even watch TV because the music was so loud.I wish when we had checked in that I was informed that I would be subjected to hours of outside music and I could have asked for another room in a quieter section of the property. This is a lovely hotel, but I unfortunately did not enjoy my stay because it was too noisy.
OK hotel, not bad but a bit tired
I was here on business at a conference. The hotel is big with plenty of facilities - the pool area is the best part of the hotel - well laid out, big and a good pool bar etc. The rooms are a bit tired, but inside is a fantastic lobby area with bars and food. I didn't try the golf. Location is a bit out of town, but easy to get an Uber
Not up to par for a JW
The sprawling property with manicured lawns looked great on the outside but the inside of the rooms were worn ands torn with a bug on the floor. The polished front desk staff were cordial and so well trained to the point they lost the human touch and their replies became robotic and well versed. All areas of a luxury hotel should be available to all customers including the swimming pool and not piece mealed out. Offering cabanas for large groups is an exception but charging extra for the bulk area of prime pool area is abhorrent. Luxury is the key word. This property was NOT luxurious. It was NOT worthy of a JW and should be downgraded to a Renaissance. Breakfast did not open until 730a. The hotel has bar codes around the hotel. They want to do away with asking staff questions and have customers scan the bar codes on their phone for hotel information. This was another we are a luxury hotel at luxury prices but will keep cutting our services. Save your pennies and go elsewhere.
Best Hotel Stay in Years
We were VERY impressed with the customer service at the JW! They bent over backwards to make sure we had an amazing stay. Starting with the wonderful arrival letter (sent by Sumner - who also happened to check us in) to the attentive and amiable housekeeping staff member (Ana) who freshened up our room, to the very helpful and friendly mobile concierge/greeter (Terry) in the lobby and the congenial thoroughness and follow through of Brandan who checked us out... you ALL made our trip unforgettable! It is remarkable enough to encounter one or two outstanding staff members per trip, but each and every person we encountered at the JW was engaging and welcoming. Thank you! On an unrelated note, it was nice to see that safety and cleanliness were clearly of paramount importance to the hotel, as well. At restaurants (including at Just a Splash Bar and Grill, by the pool), we watched as the staff sprayed, disinfected, and cleaned tables and chairs as they were vacated. After the disaster we call 2020, it was SO wonderful to feel like we were on an actual vacation! Thank you, JW Desert Ridge!! Job well done!!
Sure it’s a JW Marriott but...
Ahh a holiday in the pandemic where we had to go to a domestic destination instead of good old Europe. So we tried to make the most of it. Late September we decided to try Arizona (we are from Seattle so it seemed ok)and after early disappointment in the trip I rebooked our last couple days to a property we knew would be ok. I love the JW Marriott brand, stay in them in India and other Asian destinations from time to time. This one was typical. Good staff, they call you by name, great little touches. The problem with this location is two fold. First, they have done a good job opening their restaurants (however the food at their Roy’s restaurant is mediocre and overpriced for what it is, disappointing when it’s basically a hundred a piece and you walk away sorry you dined there) the real problem is our last day was a Monday and if you want lunch you go in search of which restaurant is open only to find out when we left the pool got dried off and changed the only place open for food was the pool. That’s just bad communication from staff to guest to set the right expectation- I would think it important your guests understand where they can get food. Second- instead of just charging up front for some of the little things. Like resort fees, valet parking etc which is 70 a day for those two you get little daily charges. Plus if you want a nice lounge chair by one of the pools it’s another 50 per person- here’s a hint. They should all be nice lounge chairs- ITS A JW MARRIOTT! unbelievable. Other than that. Nice hotel. Just not the normal JW MARRIOTT experience where nothing is left to chance.
