No longer a luxury property
We have stayed at the casa marina numerous times over the last 18 years and it is showing its age & is not what it used to be. This hotel is in desperate need of a professional remodel and a resetting of standards. Consider this hotel a regular older Hilton that is located on a beautiful beach- the Waldorf Astoria name really means nothing Furniture is falling apart, bathtubs need refinishing, towel rods are rusting, drapes are ripped , & walls need painting. They have removed coffee tables and other fixtures from the rooms. They have added mismatched artwork, carpets, & lamps and it is noticeable. The grounds are poorly kept with cigarette butts & chicken poop everywhere. Instead of replacing their signature palm trees they have faked out with planters & sand. They have added mismatched pool umbrellas, cabanas ,modern seating areas & tall uncomfortable booths in the sun sun restaurant and pool areas. It is apparently ok to smoke in the pool, bring Alcohol and play your own music- loudly. This becomes a problem when there are numerous competing music styles playing and beer cans collect around the pool. There is no room service. There is not breakfast available on site during the week. Beds are hard and creeky. The pool area is very picturesque especially in the early morning and evening. People are friendly but not overly service oriented.
Perfect Wedding/honeymoon place
We have visited before, but came back for our wedding. The property is just as beautiful as always, with great service from Min, Dimitri, and Constantine. Our wedding planner, Blaire, was able to accommodate all our requests (and was able to work around a pre-wedding broken foot. Our only complaint is the breakfast - it has been drastically reduced due to COVID-19 and more like a budget hotel breakfast.
“A Place with History”
I highly recommend Casa Marina Key And reserving one of the rooms with the furnished giant balconies overlooking two amazing pools and private beach. They are one of a kind and feature magnificent views. Casa Marina Key West surpassed all our expectations, and made an incredibly enjoyable stays!
5 Night Stay Babymoon
My husband and I stayed at Casa Marina for five nights during our Babymoon. We did our research and knew that while the hotel had not been renovated the amenities of the resort made up for it. The pool area is really nice, they have the largest private beach on the island and the hotel was a historic old Key West hotel. I have been to Key West many years ago, so I knew of the different hotels and areas. Last time I stayed at Southernmost Resort. We chose Casa Marina after looking at our options and since we planned to only be in our room to sleep, the occasional nap and to shower -- we picked the resort features over room renovation reviews. On our first day (Labor Day) we rented a day bed. It is Florida, and a small rain shower passed which ran off most people. We decided to stay and once the cloud had passed, the staff quickly came and changed the sheets and refreshed our towels. They even switched our umbrella when we needed more shade. They were absolutely wonderful! Also, for the people who complain about the beach, if you are traveling to Key West (or any of the Keys) -- know that the area is not known for its sandy beaches. You are better off in Panama City Beach, Rosemary Beach or Destin for those type of beaches. The keys are mostly comprised of Coral. So take your water shoes. I travel with watershoes to any beach and lake we travel to. Why you wouldn't think of traveling with watershoes or getting some if you are doing water activities? The beach in our opinion was nice and we spent our entire Labor Day in the water swimming in the water. We are also Gold members, so it was really nice to have the $15 per person credit for breakfast. However, if you want a plated breakfast, you do have to travel to the sister property Curio. Which we never did because we slept in most days or did morning water activities. The hotel could use some updates, I agree with that but in times of COVID the hospitality industry is hurting, so renovations are taking a backseat to keep people employed. My husband and I would in a heartbeat stay at Casa Marina again. We hope to make a trip back to Key West in the future. The island is small enough to walk and honestly, the hotel location is great for a quiet and relaxing time with a short distance to Duval Street and walking distance to different beaches too. I agree, it is not a Waldorf Standard in the rooms, but overall the resort and the staff are lovely and wonderful! Side note, on one of our excursions we met a couple who was staying at Margaritaville, which happened to be an old Westin resort. They mentioned their room looked like a Days Inn and even the amenities were not that great for what they were paying. They saw our resort and were really impressed with the pool and beach grounds.
Once was a 5 star now it’s a 2 star
Visited Sept 5, 2020 for a much needed get away. As a Hilton Diamond Member, I spent 42,000 points per night to stay here. I want my points back! The positive: the concierge who checked us in was fabulous, he had jokes and he was kind. The rest was downhill from there. 1. Way to expensive for quality 2. Lights in the elevator “most” were non operable so you didn’t know if the elevator was coming and you didn’t know what floor you were stopping on 3. Partial Ocean View room, see photos - they were covered in yellow pollen and or mold 4. Broken beach chairs were stacked on the side of the pool next to the building on the beach 5. No food service we had to walk 5 mins to a sister property to eat 6. At least 3 flock families of chickens, roosters and chicks were littering all over (inside) the hotel property. I get Key West has excepted chickens to run freely, however this was simply not what to expect from a Waldorf property. Was told they could trap and relocate if they choose to but this property is breeding like a 3rd world country. It was excessive and they crow not just mornings but all hours of the day and night 7. Quality of the beach, very poor shape. They hadn’t put sand back nor removed the sargassum (smelled badly) in idk how long but the black mesh that holds the beach from eroding was completely exposed 8. The pier was destroyed I guess in 2017 and instead of tearing it down or cleaning it up, they just put wooden fencing up and you couldn’t access it 9. Ordered a drink from the 1 open bar and maybe 5 people at the bar, the bartender could care less I was standing there for over 5 mins while he talked with another patron I stayed here on the 4th July 2012 and it was POSH, a true Waldorf experience. Returned 5th Sept 2020 and checked out 48 hours later and stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for 5 more nights.
