Disappointed Stay at Krystal Grand Cancun – Wouldn’t Return

This was our second trip to Cancun, and unfortunately, the Krystal Grand fell short of expectations—especially when compared to our first stay at a Dreams resort. We might’ve been spoiled by that experience, but nonetheless, here’s an honest and detailed breakdown of our stay. Location & Beach: The resort’s location is definitely a plus—centrally located and within walking distance to shops and local stores. The beach was beautiful and relatively calm during most of our stay. There was some seaweed, but nothing unmanageable, and we were still able to enjoy swimming in the ocean on most days. Hotel Facilities: The hotel is noticeably outdated. We stayed on the 14th floor, and the elevator situation was frustrating. Despite having four elevators, only one seemed updated, and all were slow and lacked ventilation, making for hot, uncomfortable rides. The rooms had a musty, odd smell that didn’t go away throughout our stay. Check-In Experience: Check-in was quick but impersonal. Unless you’re a vacation club member, don’t expect any type of tour or warm welcome. It felt very transactional. At Dreams, we received a walkthrough and a more welcoming experience, so this was a letdown. Dining: There are four restaurants, including the buffet. The food was just okay. As a family that doesn’t eat pork, we found options to be limited. The poolside restaurant served extremely small portions, so you’ll likely need to order multiple times to feel full. Room service is available but comes with a ~$9 USD delivery fee, which we felt was unnecessary for an all-inclusive resort. Bars & Beverage Service: The bars were average at best. The pool bar was consistently understaffed, with one bartender trying to manage 50+ guests. Beach drink service was extremely slow, and the in-room mini bar was never restocked—not once during our entire 8-day stay. Entertainment: Extremely limited. Aside from a pool workout and some occasional nighttime music, there was little to no entertainment offered. Ironically, the most lively moments were when the resort was filming promotional content—they brought out all the bells and whistles for the cameras, but that energy wasn’t there for actual guests. One bright spot was a live band and cookout for the 4th of July (on day 7), which we did enjoy. Communication & Transparency: Communication from staff was lacking. We were told the pool would reopen by 10:30 AM after a photo shoot, yet it remained closed until around 11:15 AM—only after guests complained. A restaurant was also closed for renovations with zero prior notice; we only found out when we couldn’t make a reservation and had to inquire at the front desk. Overall Impression: Would we stay again? No. If this had been our first Cancun resort experience, we likely wouldn’t have returned. Compared to the service, amenities, and experience at Dreams, Krystal Grand simply doesn’t measure up. If you’re looking for a low-key, self-entertainment kind of vacation, this might work for you—but if you’re expecting quality service, consistent communication, and a memorable experience, we suggest looking elsewhere.

    Horrible

-Poor food quality and selection -We got sick on day2 from all inclusive -no air conditioning in slow elevators or lobby -extremely slow elevators - very unprofessional staff - with so many choices in cancun, you would think they would strive to do better

Awesome experience at the Hibachi Grill at Ayami in Krystal Grand Cancún.

The hibachi grill was fantastic. The cook (Pablo) did a a great job with cooking the food and providing great entertainment.
