Great place to stay
We have stayed at this hotel on two occasions with our 4 young boys. We love it. The room is small, but works and is clean. The pool is large and we love the walking path leading to the Universal parks. For the price, this place is hard to beat.
Location location location
We stay here for two weeks on a family trip to Florida from the UK. This was my 4th time in Florida and 1st staying on a universal resort, previously having stayed on a Disney resort and twice on international drive. LOCATION Firstly this is a great location if you're planning to visit the universal theme parks, that has to be the biggest attraction to this resort. We were not driving during our stay, so having free and easy to access transport to get from resort to park and back was a must. For us visiting off season we never had to wait more than 5 mins to get on a bus. That said to get from the resort to anywhere other than the universal parks for free wasn't easy and we often had to use Uber or Lyft. We did however find a way to get to international drive by using the free universal transport and stopping at one of the sister hotels but it involved a fair bit of working and a few bus changes. You can also walk to the parks, or get a boat ride (from the hotel next door) walking is about 2km and made longer by the fact you have to cross a road via a bridge. But if you can handle the heat it's nice and scenic. PERKS Other perks of the hotel are the early access to Volcano Bay and Harry Potter. Volcano bay was great for our rest days, 5 min walk and were where there, beating the crowds and getting a sunbed. While Harry Potter is a nice touch for fans, as an adrenaline junky I was disappointed to find you only got access to one ride during the early access, the rest is the ' themed Streets'. So back to hotel itself! ROOMS The rooms were not anything special, quite small and very retro as is the theme for this place, but certainly not horrible either and kept clean, not spotless but clean. Enough space to unpack but limited room to move around. Small TV to watch (with usb if you take your own) and usual amenities, could have done with a few more plug sockets to charge the multiple devices we seem to have to take! We didn't spend much time in the rooms other than sleep and getting ready to set off out. The bathroom was also quite small but again everything we needed, shower and bath included and regular replacement of the wash kit. The only issue for us in the room was the noise of the small fridge. We didn't plan to use it anyway so just unplugged it. FOOD AND DRINK You've no doubt seen the posts already, if you're here for more than a week get the unlimited refill cups for the length of your stay, they'll pay for themselves for drinks at breakfast time and around the pool, even more if you plan to be here for lunch and dinner. We ate breakfast here most days, the price was reasonable and once you found your way around there is plenty of choice. It did takes us a few days to figure out the best value and portion sizes (not wanting to blow all of our budget before the day even started) but we eventually got to around $20-30 for a breakfast for 4. We didn't eat here much at lunch or in the evenings, opting to eat out or get a takeaway delivered. But we did have the pizza a couple of times which was ok. POOLS AND PLAY There is a fair amount to do on site, two pools, lazy river, bowling and gaming. We enjoyed a bit of everything during our stay and while each activity wasn't the best version we'd ever done the kids had fun. I think the lazy river is a great addition to the hotel, but if you want water rides then just go next door. Equally the bowling was fun, pricey but fun, again not as good as your get down your local bowling alley. We were staying around Halloween and really loved the stranger things photo opportunity, as fans of the show this was great. Loved it and went back a couple of times. In summary this is a great place for a base to stay and travel around the unviersal theme parks. If you want to spend more time in your hotel or room then I'd look somewhere else (not that it's bad, but that's not what it's for). Pool and dining are standard, eat out more enjoy all the food Orlando has to offer. Take advantage of the early access to Volcano bay if you want a rest day or if you just love water parks! If you plan to travel further afield to Disney or international drive regularly the hire a car. Oh and one last thing, buy and try toasting marshmallows over the open fire at least once for a bit of fun!
Excellent customer service
Due to the current international pandemic, I just had to sadly cancel an upcoming vacation to Cabana Bay for later this year and wanted to commend them for their excellent customer service. When I called to cancel my reservation, the phone was answered straight away by a very helpful lady called Heather. She was very friendly and efficient and everything was resolved within minutes. It's customer service like this that will ensure that I book Cabana Bay again when I, hopefully, return to Orlando in 2021. Thank you!
Excellent - One of the Best
I have stayed at the Cabana Bay 3 times and I am booked to come back in July. I have also recommended it to other people who have now been twice. The staff are very friendly and nothing is a bother. We always stay in the Americana building by the lazy river. The cleaners often say hello in the passing. The Bus to universal is very handy as you do not have to worry about getting there and back. The food court in the bayliner diner is beautiful and there are lots of options for food in there. It is a little pricy, however, the food is good and you also get large portions. The ice cream is amazing as is me and my mums favourite, the hot chocolate with the vanilla milk! I look forward to my visit this year and many more visits to come with my family. This is a hotel that I class as my family hotel now, somewhere that is our happy place. See you in July. Linsay :)
This hotel is big but couldn’t fault it our room was a good size very clean and the beds were comfy we had a fridge and little extras in the bathroom like shampoo etc,, The pool was a lovely temperature and we enjoyed the lazy river, we didn’t find the Jacuzzi until the last day but that was lovely we also enjoyed the fire pits at night where we could roast marshmallows. The food and drink in the hotel were nice but very overpriced but we drove to Walmart to get extra bits that we could keep in the room. There is a Starbucks inside the hotel which was great and they did a nice bacon and egg muffin in the morning which I would grab before going to the parks. Overall I would recommend this hotel as could not fault anywhere which is a nice surprise due to the size and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful as we are from the UK we were always asking them questions as we have never been before and they were great with giving us suggestions on where to shop and how to get about.
