    Good Holiday

We booked the resort because of its great reviews for trips with families but always suspected that it would not be as great as our Mexico five star resorts. We were pleasantly surprised. while the property isn't brand new it's still well maintained, the pools are great, the food is adequate and the staff is amazing. we definitely enjoyed our four nights and 5 days here. Our son loved the resort. There are many activities for kids and the resort was mixed with couples and families with small children. the food was good enough and we didn't get sick at all but there's not one meal that we could walk away from that we would say we would remember after leaving here. the real treat of this Resort is the staff from waiters to the entertainment staff like Angel and Jackson or the bartenders that would pour heavy drinks and remember your order, or the Baristas that knew exactly what you wanted when you showed up in the morning. It was the small touches that definitely gave it it's five stars. when we got there we did have issues with the handheld shower which was leaking and the drawers in the room showed signs of aging with some scratches on them. however with one quick remark these are both rectified within hours which we were pleasantly surprised and happy about. overall if someone was looking for a quick no worry trip with their family and children I would definitely recommend this resort.

    Best experience

If you're looking for true relaxation and luxury, this resort delivers on all fronts. Our favorite place was lazy river and pools in water park area. Housekeeping was spotless and super consistent. Room service excellent. Wifi coverage was great even on the beach. Highly recommend for families. We visited with our 4.5yrs old son and we all had fun.

    Great food and great staff!

I had the great opportunity to visit this beautiful resort for a travel conference. I truly appreciated the friendliness of the staff. The resort was always kept clean. I looked forward to the delicious buffet lunch every day. I was fortunate to get a glimpse of several amazing weddings going on around the property.

    Excellent time at Dreams Onyx!!

IN DEPTH REVIEW!! (my subjective opinion!!) This was our 7th trip to the D.R. spanning 35 years, previously having visited Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete. We now like Punta Cana. We flew on an Air Transat package from Montreal for 10 days at Dreams Onyx Apr 10 to 20, 2025, a couple in their 60s. As a treat we opted to do the VIP fast track at the airport (awesome) and were met at the plane, golf cart ride to quick stop at customs, & on through to our private transfer and quickly arrived at the beautiful hotel. We had booked a Preferred Club Junior Suite with Private Pool – King Bed. Preferred check in was smooth and our room was lovely, spacious, not damp. A/C worked well. Our chambermaid, Adames, kept it spotless, always fresh towels, and she was very patient as I spoke to her in my rocky Spanish!! The mini fridge guy stocked it daily with Presidente beer, sodas, water, lots of M&Ms peanuts, Pringles & Milky Ways! There was a bottle of Brugal Rum in room as well. PRIMO LOCATION by the preferred adults pool, a roomy patio with plunge pool, a wooden walkway to our own bali bed then a footpath to the sidewalk that circles the preferred pool, stairs in right there. Less than 1min to the beach. The staff that serviced this area were AMAZING. Chairside (or patio side!) drinks brought by Ismael, (drinky drinky time) Nelis, Jensy were terrific. They circulated regularly offering beverages. The swim up bartenders were equally attentive, thank you Jean (my mojito made with love) Andy & Alejandro. As preferred guests we had had a butler, (another) Alejandro, who brought us our beach bag & introduced himself, checked in daily, booked our dinner reservs, and helped my husband get some padding for our bed, which he found hard! I’d hoped to see him before we left, but he was MIA 2 days prior to departure when we tried to inquire if a late checkout was possible. So on the last day we left our room at noon for regular ck out time out at the Pref lounge only to find out Preferred ck out was 1PM!! Oh well. Wished we’d known. Is Preferred status worth it? In our opinion YES! 100% Aside from the seamless ck in/out process, we had several lounges with snacks and bars, with comfortable seating areas. We could easily request a quick lift to the lobby (some mobility issues), have set times for dinners at the a la cartes, a designated area at the beach, and access to the air conditioned Tamarindo restaurant for breakfast and lunch with the option to eat from a menu, or the buffet. Shout out to Juan who brought our morning mimosas with a familiar smile from day 1. (also the fellow who sang while he worked the breakfast service, he was great!) note: the eggs Benedict were pretty good! As well as the poached eggs. We did not try any lunch items off the menu. Which leads me to … The Buffet: very good breakfast and lunches. Many options. Was a not a huge fan of the dinner buffet, I found it very repetitive, HOWEVER this was not a big problem because there WAS always something to eat. COCO CAFÉ: outstanding!! Line ups aside, the ladies moved efficiently and pumped out hot & cold morning bevvies like a well oiled machine. Josefina, Margarita, Diomeris, Valentina YOU ARE GREAT! Thank you for my cappuccinos <3 Gave them some Easter chocolates and they were elated. Also there was a gentleman who helped there too, I didn’t catch his name, but I saw him mornings AND evenings, he worked hard. Absolute highlight of our days was the evening pre-dinner time spent at the MOMENTS lobby bar. Here the bartender Junior actually became our friend. His professionalism & kindness is noteworthy, and outshines any negatives one might be experiencing during their stay. We also enjoyed meeting other guests in this comfortable environment. Some we will even keep in touch with. Thanks Junior, we were happy to have met you, and have that last chance to see you before our transfer back to the airport arrived!! In addition, Lorena, who also worked at Moments went above and beyond to find a pineapple, core it, and have a drink made in it in order to fulfill a little girl’s tropical vacation dream. Edgar also worked diligently and kept a keen eye on the guests ensuring did not go without! After our time there we could grab a golf cart back to the resto area. The bellboys were always available and we never waited long. A LA CARTES: honestly we were not super impressed (no wow factor) with the food at any. Perhaps trying to please/accommodate as many guests as possible, makes the quality fade in some instances. We tried four. CAPERS Italian: VERY BUSY, noisy, and slow service. We didn’t like our meals. SPICE: Asian. We ate off the menu, not at a teppanyaki table. I liked my stuff-> some sushi, spring roll, dumplings, a very unusual (sweet) bao bun & then fried ice cream. My husband’s ramen had raw capellini (?) as the noodle, he was not a fan. Service was good tho. BLUEWATER GRILL: Steakhouse. Andres - great service!! I thought my spinach artichoke dip was ok, and a good rib eye steak cooked medium as requested. Husband took chef’s special, tuna steak. Overcooked and sauce extremely salty. Did not like. FAIRE: American style. Not busy AT ALL  good service, food (cheeseburgers) fine. Friends had the mixed platter of sausages, ribs, wings etc and said it was their best meal in the 2 weeks they were there. BAREFOOT GRILL for lunch near the beach had amazing burgers etc. Recommend. TACO truck near the Lazy River had good tacos, bar there made FAB margaritas! Note: try a passion fruit mojito, surprised me how delicious it was. Also choco or coffee martinis. Of course margaritas (spicy one in particular) and regular mojitos great. Lots of non-alcohol options too. We had mixed weather but it did not impact our overall pleasure, GORGEOUS BEACH – well maintained, little to no sargassum, windy - red flag most week. The sandy shallow water part near Breathless was good for snorkeling. (we had lunch at Breathless, not NEARLY as nice as Onyx) The waves were large, people were enjoying them greatly. The Lazy River is A LOT OF FUN. A great perk at this resort. Good bartenders at the bar there too, thanks Peter! We didn’t try the water slides although we heard peals of laughter coming from them! Tireless grounds keepers ensure this place remains looking spectacular. Very lush and beautiful. There was nightly entertainment but unfortunately we only caught a bit of the fireshow <- great. The animation team worked hard, although we did not have too much interaction with them, except Black Diamond ;) whipping people into shape dancing merengue lol. Special thanks to Domingo in Preferred lounge, both near Bldg 5 and in the lobby. I was always happy to see your smiling face. The administration should note that their staff are what MAKES this place, and why we would return without hesitation. We thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day stay, even with a few downfalls in the food area. The latter being the only reason I gave 4* instead of 5. Staff get a HIGH FIVE ***** Everything else was FABULOUS.
