It was ok - Not a 5 star property.
Let me start by saying that the resort is beautiful, it has a nice large lobby, plenty restaurants and bars for everyone to enjoy and never seemed crowded. The downside is the service...it leaves much to be desired. Being Bonvoy members we have always had wonderful experiences at Marriott properties, so we thought of staying at this resort because it is part of the Marriott portfolio. THE CHECK-IN: Our check-in process was easy and not long and our room was ready, however we arrived at 4pm. For those who arrived at the resort earlier in the day (my parents and rest of family) they had to check-in to get the wristband to give them access to buffet and amenities, and then had to make another line after 4pm to activate the wristband and be given access to the room. My parents didn't get access to their room until 7pm because the resort has contracts with flight crews which allows them late check-out. Hence making those guests unable to check-in until the crew decides to leave. THE ROOM: When we first entered our room, it smelled stuffy. I tend to find this a common theme in many Caribbean resorts because I understand that the proximity to the ocean can make rooms musty if not properly maintained. However, at 2am, I woke up unable to breathe with an asthma attack and it was due to the humidity levels being so high in the room. It was over 82% humidity according to the dehumidifier the resort placed in the room! At that point we requested to be moved to a different room and they accommodated our request. The new room we were assigned was much better and worked for the rest of our stay and did not have a musty smell, but we had to compromise on the view. The 1st room had a view of ocean from the balcony and the 2nd room had a view of the lazy river. The snacks in the rooms were only available on the 1st day. They were not replenished again during our stay until I ran into the minibar guy and inquired about it and he said we were not entitled to snacks in the room because we were not part of the "Diamond Club". Then we ran into another staff member that had all the snacks in the cart and he said that was not accurate and gave us snacks for our room for the day, but he never came around again. Everything with the staff had to be asked 3-4 times before getting anything accomplished. They also need to do better with cleaning and maintaining the halls in each building. I understand the hotel is open to the elements, but the same dead bugs laid in the halls all 7-days we were at the resort. They need to clean up, this hotel is heavily used, and I don't know if they are short staffed in that area, but never saw anyone cleaning the halls in the buildings that housed the rooms. The elevators are stainless steel and with mirrors. People walk in wet from the pool/beach and never saw anyone cleaning the floors in elevators or print marks on walls/mirror. It remained dirty all 7-days we were there. The main areas are maintained much better. THE SPLASH PARK at the sister property: Due to the inconvenience with our room they gave us a morning pass to the Royalton Splash Park. They took our family in a golf cart because the park was relatively close to our resort. The kids truly enjoyed the park and used the slides over and over. They offer no alcoholic drinks and only small snacks at the park. Once we were ready to head back to our resort it was impossible to get the golf cart back to get us. We waited almost an hour and no one came for us after trying to call various time. We had to pay $15 to hire a taxi and take us back to the resort. THE FOOD: The food was ok at the buffet, they did have a variety, but the plates were always scares. SPECIALTY DINING: Getting a reservation for the specialty dining is quite impossible for a party larger than 2 or 4! The system is controlled by the hotel staff and even though they tell you to make reservations on the app, it is impossible. There has to be a better way for this!!! Staff always ask if they can help make arrangements but they never do. You have to make a line at another counter so that a staff member can make the reservations for you. You are unable to eat at any specialty restaurant on the first few days you are at the resort because they are all booked by guests that arrived days prior to your arrival. The dinners at the specialty dining restaurants do offered better service and quality than at the the buffet. THE BEACH: It was very chill over at the beach, they did their best to clean out the sargassum and we made it the best experience we could. The drink service at the beach was great and the guys were always coming around asking if we needed anything else. The resorts do get bombarded by vendors trying to sell bags, cigars, braid service, massage service, jewelry. These are not part of the hotel, these are town vendors that are allowed to sell at the resorts and it makes it quite annoying. THE POOLS: The pool closest to the beach is the party pool, the pool in the middle of resort is more relax and seemed cleaner, the lazy river was nice and we did not have a problem getting floaties. The flow rider requires reservations and is at an additional fee. Overall we enjoyed our time together as a family, we tried to make the best out of each situation and the resort. It is certainly not a 5-star property.

Great time
We had a very nice family trip to Royalton Bavaro! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The grounds were well maintained and there was always something to do. Kelvin, our butler, was the best!

Don’t waste your money
This resort is horrible the pics are not what the rooms are. The beds are hard and the sheets are dirty and nasty. The room was full of bugs. Tried making reservations at the restaurants couldn’t because I wasn’t diamond. Never was told about that. When I downloaded the app and asked the front desk about diamond they told me it was an additional 800 for me and my husband. My husband was stuck in the bathroom for over 30 min And no one showed up for about 2hrs to help him get out the bathroom. The water to brush your teeth smelled liked gas I reported it they did nothing. I asked to switch rooms they told me they were fully occupied each night. I asked if I could be moved to a sister resort they told me no I had to have a reservation. The drinks at the bar were watered down. Kids are allowed to be at the bar and at all the pools it overall was an horrible experience. Please don’t waste your money on this resort because they will try to sell you a timeshare to stay at there resort. All the rooms smell like mildew. They have water damage, and there is never a manager you can talk to they have you talk to guest services when you check out you don’t even get a receipt. One more thing if you lose your wrist band which is your key card it is 150.00 to get a new one. They only care about money, please don’t waste your time and energy on going to this resort. They also don’t like Afro American people they treat them really bad. Unless your tipping really good. But if you’re a white person you’re treated like a king and a queen it’s so not right. Beware of this resort it’s very toxic and I feel like they are trying to kill Americans with the gas smell in the water.

Good times at Royalton Bavaro
The report was very well kept in my opinion. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Liked having a concierge at the entrance of your building to help with any planning for dinners. Checking was very quick and efficient. Did not have any issues at all. Pools and bars were great. Activities like the foam party in the infinity pool were very good. The lazy river was fantastic with a float up bar you could refill your favorite beverage at each time around. The nightly shows were great too. Not sure if that was employees in the shows or hired talent. But either way everybody was great. All in all had a great time.

Our butler, Jesus, was absolutely fabulous! He addressed and met all our needs. We able to get reservations to all the restaurants.
