Not as good as last year!

Last year our stay was excellent, this year we would say it was average to good. Check in quite swift, check out a different experience. Majority of staff excellent but some could do with further training in customer service! Upgraded to preferred club this year but TBH did not feel it was really worth it or necessary. Rooms lovely and kept very clean as was the rest of the resort. I do feel the hotel has cut back on some things to save costs. Food on the whole is good. Our favourite restaurant this year was Allora the Italian great selection on menu and food extremely good. No issue with sunbeds as we are early risers and enjoyed grabbing a coffee from the coffee shop and watching the sun come up. Only problem was when we wanted to go for breakfast and lunch the pool guys at the activity pool with a couple in particular told us not to be longer than 30 mins otherwise our stuff would be removed even though we assured them we would be back. We returned on our first day to find them starting to move our things, we were longer than 30 mins but no longer than an hour as this was due to the wait at the Observatory rooftop for breakfast! I agree there should be a time on how long the beds can be left empty but if the policy is 30 mins this is ridiculous and management need to review allowing at least an hour as who wants to rush breakfast or lunch whilst on holiday! Entertainment staff great and very interactive, theatre shows very good as is the nightclub. A return visit would not be a no but whilst there are other resorts to try we will not be hurrying back.

Lots of good points but the room doors slam loud when allowed to shut on their own.

The staff and service levels are exceptional. The whole ambience and facilities are very good indeed. But -the room doors slam which makes the place noisy; the room toilet door weighs a ton, is on a spring hinge with a thimble for a door knob so it is very difficult to open, and I am a big strong man; the Ember steak place must be avoided at all costs unless you want to be ill or like paraffin tasting old boot rib eyes; and you cannot really swim in the sea.

    Find a different Secrets!

By far the least impressive Secrets I've been too. The beach is not great (go to Maroma!), the loungers are always reserved, the food was surprisingly average (my partner and I both got sick at Ember after sharing a Rib Eye), the gym is average and we were both surprised at the quality of English spoken by our waiters. Other Secrets have had wait staff who understood English quite well. We had a number of occasions where things came from the kitchen or bar that were not at all what we ordered. I wasn't upset, just surprised as I've been to a number of Secrets and found that they were a cut above as their price point suggests. The rooms were nice, the lagoon was a nice touch. And the cafe was excellent.

    Secrets Moxche Does Not Disappoint

Secrets Moxche is our Favorite of all the secrets properties we have visited and we have been to quite a few including Impression Isla Mujeres. Overall the food and service is great. The pools are fantastic from the rooftop pool to the manmade lagoon beach and infinity lap pool they are all great. Free golf simulator and sports bar wonderful. Wine and tequila tasting a bit over priced but a nice experience if you want to pay for it. Spa, Incredibly over priced and now they are charging an extra $50 to be in the same room for your couples massage which is Absurd!! Food quality at “some” of the restaurants has gone down since last year and hotel was at 100% capacity and was understaffed for dinner service nightly. Overall this is still our favorite place to visit in the Cancun area and we highly recommend it. We have already been here 5 different times to have an idea that some of this experience might just be a one off. Secrets Maroma is a close 2nd and does have a much better beach and comparable food quality, but the accommodations are a little dated.

    Balanced Review

We are on our 2nd from last day at this resort. It’s quite a balanced review for this resort. The rooms are large with mostly great views of the ocean or the pools so you won’t feel claustrophobic. The restaurant choices are good with really nice food and good service. All of the bar and restaurant staff are really friendly, want to make your stay special and check in regularly if you need anything. Drink selections are great too. All top spirits in the cocktails and they are nonstop from 10am onwards!! The hotel should however put more staff in the bars at busy times. That’s not the staff issue but the management. We had a room that smelt of real bad damp when we arrived to the point it woke both my husband and I up during the night and played with his asthma. We complained to reception and they tried to remediate via maintenance however it didn’t solve the issue. We had to complain again and was told we could move rooms to the best available. This was a slight twist on reality. Again, a nice room but was a lower floor so not a slight sea view like we had before and it was right near where all the private events were in the middle pool area so quite noisy. In our new room we had to get maintenance to check our TV 3 times as it simply did not work to the be told eventually we needed a whole new TV. It was replaced but quite frustrating as every time we asked for it to be fixed, we’re told it was but it wasn’t in reality. The other downside is the fact that unless you are up at 7am for a sunbed, you will struggle to get one. For us, being on holiday is not about setting an alarm or having to battle with getting a sunbed. People reserve rows of them for their friends and then spend all day in the pool drinking. They did enforce the rule where items where moved at the first part of our holiday but that soon stopped as it got busier here. The other annoyance for us was despite having a few issues, we were unable to keep our room for 2hrs more on our final day and told we could had to use the hospitality room. I would have appreciated a little flexibility here given the issues we’ve had overall. Instead, we have a 30min slot before our collection at 2:30pm in the hospitality room as it was already fully booked! We can keep the room to 12:30pm but that’s it. No flex at all! As said - the hotel has good and bad points but I would suggest management think about how they can make those who has issues here feel valued and want to return.
