Unfriendly staff and moldy resort needs renovated

The resort is in urgent need of major renovations. The roofs are damaged and leaking, including the women’s restroom in the Desire Club, which has water dripping from the ceiling. There’s noticeable black mold up there, and a trashcan right by the door is catching water from a large hole above. The musty smell makes it difficult to breathe in the restroom. Most staff members were unfriendly, making it feel like a hassle to request basic items like a bottle of water. However, there were a couple of standout employees. Kenroy at the Italian restaurant was fantastic, and I highly recommend him. Alvin at the Orchids pool bar was also excellent. Evening entertainment was lacking, with the same band performing every night. Access to preferred areas didn’t seem enforced, as anyone could enter regardless of their status. Additionally, the water in our bathroom had a fishy odor. If you order room service or food by the pool, be prepared to wait about three hours, even outside of peak times. While the beach was beautiful, the overall experience at the resort was disappointing. Jamaica is lovely, but based on this stay, we won’t be returning.

    Great time

The hotel was amazing. Beaches pristine and pools are super clean. Full bars everywhere and lots of options for food. The entertainment team and night life are super fun too. Staff are amazing and always on call. The extra activities like the spa or boat trips or excursions are a little expensive but worth it for longer trips.

    Cockroaches

Pillow menu is great. They have a 'secret box' outside of the room that room service can put your trays in. Initial room well were given was a preferred Jr suite ocean front however only had a view of the tops of trees. Upon request and a push from us they moved us up to floor 4. U fortunately the AC did not work but it was fixed quickly. The room did have cockroaches that we did not initially notice. Not one, not two, but several...the whole dame family. We also paid $500 for a couples massage and it wasn't more than a light touch.

    We felt like honeymooners!

My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary here and it was such a gift for ourselves. We were warmly received by their friendly and accommodating staff. Rushane and Jamal went out of their way to make sure that our expectations were exceeded and that we were well taken care of. By the end of our stay they felt like family to us. Our en-suite was spacious with a nice ocean view and were presented with champagne and cheese try shortly after our arrival. The food was excellent and abundant with so many options on the buffet. There was a lot of great entertainment so we didn’t feel the need to leave the resort but there are so many options for excursions if you choose. Secrets St James was a great place to enjoy the natural beauty of Montego Bay—highly recommend!

Enjoyed the Vacation with Family, Resort wasn’t as expected

Went with a group of 15 to celebrate the milestone birthdays of two family members. Had a blast celebrating them, but wasn’t thrilled with the resort. We paid for secrets wild orchid preferred club, however most of that building that had the oceanfront king beds and swim up rooms was closed, due to some hurricane damages. So we were taken to the St. James preferred club, but weren’t told that until after checking in. Then we were told there was some damage to the wild orchid preferred club building so that’s why we were moved, but we should have been told that before we arrived at the resort. That’s false advertising. We weren't offered anything for having to switch locations and part of our group (15 total) were able to stay at the wild orchid preferred club while others had to stay at st James preferred club, so we weren’t all together, despite booking to be all together at the same property. St. James is a dated older property and is in need of some repairs. In my room, the cabinet door leading to my mini fridge was broken and kept falling off the hinges. The toilet kept overflowing in my families room next door to me. Services varied as they received a welcome plate, had a stocked fridge and got snacks each evening but I was right next door and didn’t receive the welcome plate, my mini fridge wasn’t stocked and I had to call to get items and I got no nightly snacks and we were right next door to each other. We all did enjoy the wild orchid pool and pool bar and spent everyday there. I didn’t enjoy the buffet foods at all. I did enjoy the hibachi and the barefoot grille. I ate jet chicken pizza and fries everyday. All in all, I had a great time with my family, but I wouldn't return to this resort.
