    Amazing resort with terrible room

It was our second time at Bahia Principe, though last time we stayed at Bahia Principe Grand Coba and this time at Grand Tulum. While the resort itself is great and we have no complaints, the room itself at Grand Tulum was disappointing. We stayed at one of the remodeled rooms and we hated the bathroom design... In fact, there is no "bathroom" per se but rather an area with a glass door hiding the toilet and another area hiding the shower. The rest is basically an open-floor plan with a half wall separating the bedroom area from the "bathroom" area. This sucks for several reasons: 1) No privacy 2) Glass doors for the toilet, really? And you can't even lock it? Whose bright idea was that? 3) The shower area... Tiny! You barely have any room there to move your arms without hitting your elbow on something and you can't change inside it either. So, after taking a shower, you have to leave that tiny cabinet-sized area and put on clothes outside. 4) Given the open-floor plan, the glass doors and the glass window in the shower area, there is no way to block the sunlight from making the bedroom too bright as soon as the sun is up. So, in short, amazing resort but the room sucks!

    Babies crying everywhere

We are currently at BP Tulum. Came 2 years ago same dates. Great. Just a few children enjoying everything with families. This time crying babies everywhere. Can't move for buggies in buffet at times. Example In a la carte Indian around 30 people in place at 8pm. 5 crying babies for most of our 3 course meal. Crying babies at pool this morning. Now watching football in sports bar with crying baby. Why people would expect a baby / toddler to cope with 36 feels like 40 degrees is beyond me Coba is the family place and is actually better this time. Just families enjoying the sun and facilities.

Great Family Vacation in Spite of the Imperfections

My family (wife, kids ages 8 and 11) had a great time during our stay, though there were some imperfections. Pros: -Rooms were spacious, with sofa bed in living room working well for kid beds. We appreciated the built-in drying racks on the balcony. -Pools were big, warm, and shallow enough (1.25 m or so) so that even my younger kid could stand most of the time. My 11YO and I spent hours tossing a frisbee around in the pool. -Great service around the resort -Golf carts driven by staff made getting around quick and easy, including traveling to the Coba resort -Wildlife spotting was fun: we saw coatis, agoutis, iguanas, raccoons, and lots of birds -The Friday night rock show was good Cons: -Smells: room smelled moldy when entering, though I never saw mold. Toilet (sewage system) smelled a bit funky, too. -Buffet and dining room: The food was mostly fine, though the fish, fresh crepes and always available ice cream were highlights. The kids' area was underwhelming, often with unusual food that didn't seem to be in the right place. The buffet area was always hot and the dining spaces were also uncomfortably warm. -There was a lot of seaweed on the beach, though it was not stinky. The hotel put in a valiant effort to clear it every day, with workers raking it and bulldozers pushing it away. -Shows: the Thursday night pop show didn't hold my kids' interest as much as the Friday night one. Also I wish the shows started at 8:00, not 9:00, for the kids. -AC: the living room AC was always loud. It was either freezing or not on, with no in-between option. Maintenance tried to fix it, but things didn't change.

    Josefina the great

Josefina, bar staff in lobby bar always provided exceptional service. Superb! The company are lucky to have her as a staff member. All round a great hotel, where we had a fantastic holiday. The pools and the a la carte restaurants were brilliant.

I hate writing reviews like this! 😞

I don’t know where to start. First of all the majority of the service staff are amazing but they must feel like they are swimming against the tide. This is absolutely no way near a 5 star complex. We paid to upgrade (£272) only worth it as the food in Akumal is ‘slightly’ better. However, the Indian restaurant’s food was stunning but good luck trying to book a table at any of the restaurants. I can’t find fault with the room cleaning, Roberta, was amazing and I hope she gets recognition of how hard she works. Ultimately, there needs to be a management systematic review of the whole complex because they are really letting themselves down. We’ve travel well over the last 30 years both with children and as a couple and this is by far the worst place we have stayed when it comes to food. If you are a ‘foodie’ or ‘coeliac’ stay well clear - most things are beige or over fried and not labelled correctly for those who have to follow a strict gluten free diet. We had a leak in our room that took a while to resolve but our daughter’s leak issue too even longer. The surrounding area is beautiful please management regroup and make this the most stunning place it could be.
