Celebrating 60 with my family - fun week in the sun
First time staying at the Royalton Punta Cana with my family (5 adults and 1 child). We had a fantastic week, resort is well maintained and clean. Check in was quick and easy. Pools could use a little TLC(missing tiles mostly) but other than that no complaints. We were not DC and although a bit concerned before leaving as most reviews (on Facebook page) were mixed and many who stayed without DC said they had no issues. We were in building 1 on main floor (which is not my preference) but when I inquired about changing at time of checkin was told nothing available for 3 rooms together and we would need to be split up amongst different buildings so we decided to keep the rooms. Rooms were very clean and staff did a great job each day of our stay. Resort very quick to address any issues with room or if you required additional towels, robes, etc they arrived quickly and can be ordered through the app. My two complaints with this resort are one with the beach palapas. I have been to many resorts where the palapas are spaced further apart which was not the case here. It's great for shade but if you want to move your chair out to suntan there is no room. Again not a big deal we found an area close to main pool with deck chair and umbrellas and so we had best of both worlds with pools close by and quick 30 second walk to the beach. Not sure if it's because of erosion at beach for this resort but when walking along beach cost most other resorts had palapas generously spaced apart so you were able to move your chair in and out of the sun. The other and more troublesome issue is with this resort is their resort app. Quite frankly the app sucks and all the negative reviews regarding the functionality of the app are 100% accurate. Why ask guests to use the app to book a la cart restaurants when you know it doesn't work! Management should seriously take action to improve their app so that their guests have a full and good experience. I know many say if you're DC your butler will book a la carts for you but I also read many reviews that state that their butler booked one restaurant and then they too were at the mercy of the application. Tried everyday to book a la carts (told by staff best time is between 5-6 p.m) Tried at 5 no availabilities. Tried before 5 pm - nothing. Tried at midnight as some suggested and no luck. Spoke to someone at guest services in our building who suggested to book later time slots (9:30-9:45) and just show up at 6:30 and they should be able to accommodate you. Not the best solution especially when travelling with a 3 year old. We were celebrating my 60th bday and my kids booked the birthday package which included an a la cart reservation. Events staff person was lovely and offered 2nd a la cart as well as they would not be able to decorate my room and provide a cake until next day. I was frustrated when unable to book any other restaurants and so tried guest services at the main lobby. Very fortunate to deal with Judith who was wonderful and extremely kind. She managed to secure a reservation for following evening at Italian restaurant Grazie. I didn't want to keep having to bother guest services staff so we ate at buffet restaurant the other nights which were great too. Big shout out to Judith she deserves recognition for being so kind and helpful! Figured out pretty quickly that management not improving the app as it's all about upselling. They had staff walking around asking if you'd like them to make an la cart reservations for you. Once you say yes please they tell you you need to pre order wine or order steak or lobster to secure you reservations. The cheapest bottle of house wine ranges between 35-40 US dollars. In my opion not worth it and really not a good look for a Royalton resort. Had an incident with some staff working by the DC beach area one morning as i moved a portable umbrella (that was not being used and just sitting by the DC towel table at entry to DC beach area) to lounge chairs and put my towels on the chairs. This was first thing in the morning. Went for walk on the beach then a quick breakfast and when we returned they took the umbrella away and left chairs with towels there. I asked why they would do that and they said they needed the umbrella for their use. The person said he would go get me another umbrella (why he couldn't do that for himself I don't know). He was gone for 10 mins and returned with no umbrella and walked right by me without any further explanation. The staff came and went from that area and were not there all day so not quite sure why they needed their own umbrella. I was frustrated and went to speak to guest services at main lobby. Luckily Judith was there at the time and when I explained it to her and she spoke to her boss who said absolutely no way staff should be taking umbrellas away from guests. She contacted security who met us at the pool area along with Judith and together they instructed staff to return the umbrella to the guests. Clearly they were not happy but amazingly they found another umbrella within 5 minutes for their use but just to be spiteful they came b ynd removed my umbrella again and replaced it with the one they had miraculously found (which I came to find did not properly secure to stand) but guess they had to prove their point! Sad that staff would be spiteful especially as I was not rude with them at all. Buffet was very good with lots of variety and actually a great choice for us travelling with a 3 year old as items on kids menu at a la cart where very limited. I was dissapointed in their selection of GF foods (my daughter is GF) but she managed to find things to eat just the same. She is ok with cross contamination but a Celiac person would struggle and risk being sick. Most staff were friendly and lovely but it was hit and miss most days at buffet. You either had a waiter/waitress who was very attentive/friendly and ensured you had drinks etc or some who came only once and you had to track someone down to get refills, etc. I have to say however that we travelled the week of Easter and the hotel was clearly busy especially at breakfast and lunch and it was clear that the staff work hard and were not standing around ignoring you they were just busy and you need to be understanding as they do work hard. Tried Hunters (steakhouse) and Zen (teppanaki) and both were very good. My daughter is gluten free and chef at Zen ensured her food was prepared first (along with the sushi they brought) and brought her a separate bottle of GF Soy sauce. The portions were generous and the cooking show was fun Bartenders were great especially Antonio and Lewis at pool bar. Bar was busy but all bartenders were friendly and helpful. My little grandson wanted a "special drink" and they were kind and friendly to children putting their drinks in fancy plastic glasses and making them feel extra special! Special shoutout to Escarlett part of the animation team and who worked most days at the childrens craft area. She was lovely and went out of her way several times to make my grandson feel special and referred to him as "my boy". She truly is a gem! Loved too that they had various theme days like carnival/pirate day and had fun stuff for the kids to do. Easter morning was great with the Easter Bunny available for pictures and hugs and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. So much fun! They truly ensure there is plenty for kids. All in all a great vacation! I have stayed at several Riu resorts, Grand Palladiums and other than the a la cart reservation issues with app the Royalton is a nice resort. My daughter stayed at a Royalton in St. Lucia and although they too had a great time they couldn't help but compare their superior experience in St. Lucia to the resort in the DR. There are definitely clear differences but we also appreciate the fact that the resorts in DR are more affordable and as a result do lack in some of the extras that you would find in St. Lucia for example.

Worse vacation I have ever had?
First of all if you don’t speak Spanish or understand it, you’re in trouble. You will need interpreter. They make you feel so uncomfortable because everybody speaks Spanish. Second night when checking the bedding we noticed a dead bug and stains on the sheet so I then poured hand sanitizer on the sheet, After an outing and returning back to room I pulled back the sheets and what did I see the same sheets but bug was knocked off. I found housekeeping in the hallway and made them change everything. The night prior we had uninvited guest in our room that took a bite out of my friend legs for several days when we went to medical because his leg was oozing, we were told that in order to be seen it would be $215 for consultation. I went to guest services and they checked my room and said it was mosquitoes in which we didn’t see one. We believe it was bed bugs but who are we. Tv has a language selector in which you are suppose to be able to change no matter what language we changed it too many times to say and all we got was Spanish. Since the incident we the bites they have been calling my room asking questions but it’s not like I understand, they speaking in spanish. Also, you have limited access to the restaurants you can eat, unless you are a diamond club member.

Great Trip
A Beautiful Hotel with Exceptional Service We had a wonderful stay at this lovely hotel. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the lobby is truly stunning. Although TUI mentioned there would be ongoing work, it was very minimal and limited to the beach area. It didn’t impact our experience at all—the beach is absolutely breathtaking and fully accessible. We walked the entire stretch, and it truly is one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve seen. We stayed as non-Diamond Club guests and didn’t feel at a disadvantage. The service we received was outstanding across the board. Special thanks to Yeraldin and Anna at the infinity pool—they went above and beyond every single day, working tirelessly to ensure guests were happy. Their warm, attentive service made us feel genuinely special. They are a true asset to the hotel! Dining Experience Restaurant reservations can be a bit of a talking point, but we managed to book 10 during our two-week stay. Here's a quick summary: Steakhouse – Incredible. Definitely try the steak. Zen – Best enjoyed with a large group for a livelier experience. Grazia – A stunning setting with beautiful food. Jade – We loved it so much we went twice. Hector made our visits exceptional—he’s a star. Bella Cucina – Not our favorite, but that may have been down to our menu choices. In every restaurant and bar, the waiting staff were fantastic. However, we did find the hostesses (except at Bella and Jade) a little cold and unwelcoming. Other Food & Drink Highlights The coffee shop is amazing—hardworking staff and delicious iced caramel lattes with beautiful pastries. The sports bar was a great spot with solid food options. We didn’t use the buffet much, but the made-to-order omelettes in the morning were excellent. The burger and hot dog grill at lunch is a nice touch. It would be great to see waffles, pancakes, to be added Cocktails are delicious and there’s a good variety of food overall. We experienced no stomach issues and found the food to be hygienic and fresh. Facilities & Amenities Pools are lovely, but they did often have sand and occasionally felt a bit unclean. For non-Diamond Club guests, quiet lounging areas are limited, and the poolside music could use an update. The beach is a standout feature—crystal-clear water and soft white sand. Simply stunning. We enjoyed access to the Splash Waterpark, which was great fun. Our room, #1332, was perfectly located. Housekeeping was attentive and kept the room spotless. Allergies & Safety Each restaurant asked about allergies, which was reassuring and showed a good level of awareness and care. Entertainment & Shopping Daytime entertainment by the pool was fun, and the white party was a highlight. We didn’t catch the evening shows, so can't comment there. Be aware that shop prices on-site are very high, especially for essentials like sunscreen. The nearby mall by Splash wasn’t a pleasant experience—quite aggressive sales tactics—so we wouldn’t recommend it. Also, there’s no real town nearby to explore. Tips & Service We highly recommend bringing small dollar bills to tip generously. The staff work incredibly hard and truly appreciate it. You’ll notice an even higher level of service in return. Final Thoughts We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The beach, food, and service made it memorable. A few minor issues here and there, but nothing that took away from an otherwise fantastic holiday. We would definitely return and recommend it to others.

A Fantastic Experience
This hotel is even more impressive in person. There are several bars throughout the day, each with different offerings to keep things interesting. The buffet was definitely the highlight for us - fresh fish every day, delicious local stews and meats, a fantastic salad bar, and a "build your own" pasta and pizza station as well as fruit, charcuterie and dessert - there's something for everyone, even the pickiest of eaters. Honestly, we preferred the buffet’s variety and consistency over some of the à la carte restaurants. There’s also a lovely coffee shop with gelato and sandwiches, which we visited a few times for excellent coffee and smoothies in the mornings. If you’re a sports fan, the sports bar is perfect - lots of screens showing different events. We were told you can ask the staff to switch to a specific game, though this is probably easier during quieter hours. Plus, guests have access to the nearby Splash hotel, which offers even more dining options, pools, and a great water park that’s fun for both kids and adults. The grounds are beautiful and lush, and as you walk between the two hotels, you'll spot lots of birds, turtles, and lizards. The staff at the hotel were amazing - super friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and well maintained - The AC and fans worked perfectly and the staff were great about stocking up the mini bar (we needed lots of water!!). There were plenty of activities, both on the beach and by the pool. The "Vibe Team" arranged fun games with prizes, and there were also fitness classes in and out of the pool. The pools were fantastic, the drinks were great, and the beach was gorgeous - soft, white sand and crystal-clear blue water. We had an unforgettable time. In the evenings, there was a mix of entertainment, with kids' shows early on and fun events like the TUI beach party, white party, foam party, tribute performances, and circus acrobatic shows later in the night. One minor downside was the issue with poolside and beach chair "reserving." Despite signs saying not to leave towels on chairs to save them, some guests still did. Staff did their best to resolve this, removing towels from unused chairs after two hours, but it did lead to a few tense moments. The staff were great at handling these situations, though. Something that I wanted to bring up (though it didn't really impact our experience) was the lack of English breakfast tea. My partner is British, and he always has a cup of tea in the morning. The rooms have coffee machines but no kettles for boiling water, so making tea in the room wasn’t ideal. We had it at the buffet for the beginning of our trip, but after a few days, we noticed there was no tea available in the coffee shop, room service, or the buffet. If you’re a dedicated tea drinker, it’s a good idea to bring your own! The à la carte restaurants were good, with the teppanyaki grill being a fun experience and the sushi bar offering really good sushi and sashimi. However, the reservations system could use some improvement. It was tough to get a table unless you had a butler booking things for you. We walked by restaurants that were nearly empty, yet the system showed them as "fully booked." A little more flexibility with reservations would go a long way. All in all, this was an absolutely fantastic holiday, and we’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to the Dominican Republic. It’s a great mix of relaxation, activities, and top-notch service.

Wonderful!
Me and my friends had an amazing time! Everyone at the hotel was friendly and accommodating. Johnny, our butler, was amazing! The room was spacious, very clean, and equipped with beverages and snacks. The restaurants were wonderful. My favorites were the Japanese, Mexican, and Sea Food choices. We met a lot of hotel staff during our stay and everyone made us feel like we were at home! I will definitely be back, sooner rather than later! I would definitely recommend this resort! Just lovely!
