Lovely mother daughter stay at the Pelican
I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Pelican Grand with my 11 year old daughter. Upon arrival, we were immediately in love with the amazing smell of the lobby and the views looking out onto the ocean. The furniture and foliage in the lobby was beautifully styled. Check in was quick and easy and we were pleasantly surprised that our room was ready since we arrives well before check in time. We stayed in room 428. The room is very spacious and very clean. We loved the huge windows which allowed for an amazing view of the ocean. The patio was a wonderful addition and was very spacious. The room is well appointed and had everything we needed for a lovely stay. Breakfast and dinner at Ocean 2000 was wonderful! A standout was the fresh oysters. The property is very well maintained and all of the staff we came across were friendly and attentive. The beachfront is also very clean. We were slightly disappointed that the pool and lazy river were a lot smaller in person than they looked in the pictures, but both were clean and there was enough space for everyone. Speaking of space, on our first day we did have to wait a bit for lounge chairs around the pool but we just sat our stuff to the side and were called over by Donte once chairs became available. Be aware that iguanas roam freely around the pool area but they aren’t a bother. Drinks at the pool were great and the service was friendly. The gelato available in the hotel shop was so good! They even had a fun scavenger hunt for the kids and live music I don’t have once complaint about our stay and cannot wait to return to the Pelican.

A mixed bag, nice staff, some hiccups, good and bad thoughts
I submitted a one star review the other day warning of the 22% “service charge” that is added to every bill. It turned a two cocktail and one appetizer $54 bill (still way too high) into a $70 bill. In haste, I complained about it and have since reconsidered and evaluated our stay based on a few more days of activity. To the 22% service fee. Every staff member you speak to has a different explanation for you and the hotel should simply outline it for every guest clearly upon check in so you understand how to tip during your stay. To keep it vague confuses guests and makes no sense. The pool area is much smaller in person than it photographs online, BUT the pool is crystal clean and the staff is very nice. There are umbrellas and towels too. It gets crowded in the early afternoons. If you want a more quiet experience (traveling without small children yourself) this isn’t your place. It’s quite loud and the parents aren’t exactly policing the noise. If you have small kids they will love it. The food is good but the prices are a bit high at the pool, but Breakfast is reasonable on the patio and it is very nice and peaceful. The wait staff is charming and nice. The beach staff is fantastic. John is an amazing example of customer service. John hustles and always greets you with a smile. Bring a few bucks to tip the guys who set up your umbrella and chairs. We are staying on a premium floor and we’re surprised to have an old fashioned shower tub. The room itself is impressive in size. Beds are old and mattresses have seen way too many miles. Not a comfortable sleep. Monday we could not use the pool until 12:30pm (supposed to open at 8am) because they had it closed to trim the palm trees. Nobody was informed in advance and when you went to inquire they handed you a letter at the front desk. That would have been something they should have informed all guests upon check in on Sunday. It’s a nice resort. It’s certainly a nice staff. It isn’t up to the standard we expected.

Wedding Location
The wedding staff, restaurant staff and beach staff was amazing. Food was amazing. Brian at concierge is top not. Best one at the resort. Front desk had attitudes and were not helpful at all. Great place to stay but expect some issues at some point.

Good Stay for a wkend trip.
Overall a good stay. For the price there are some changes that can be made. Loves: 1. The beach staff 10/10 2. The valet/bellhops 10/10 3. Ice cream parlor a nice touch though 1 scoop is $8 4. The views from the oceanfront rooms 10/10 Cons 1. The cost of valet should be listed on the site. $55/day 2. Housekeeping was the worst part of the stay. We were there for 4 days and never received turn down service after asking 3x. We also had to ask for robes and slippers 5x over 2 days before receiving them. 3. The bathroom was not up to par based on the description online as well as other rooms on the site. We had a tub instead of a stand alone shower, the tub was rusted (room 608) and there were orange stains in the sink.
