    Excellent Birthday Getaway for Mom

I thoroughly research resorts for my mother’s birthday trip and we were not disappointed. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. This adults only is small and intimate but if you want to join a crowd you can head over to the selection side. The food was phenomenal and I’m a foodie by all means. The butler service was so worth it! Rushane and Berris were basically like little genies fulfilling every request. However, they were also thoughtful decorating the room for her birthday and a surprise flower petal bath. Travis and Lloyd keep our cups full at the pool bar and beachside buffet. Ace keep us dancing all night literally.

    1st Time in Jamaica

TLDR: Was our first time in Jamaica. Resort didn't meet our expectations for a 5 star resort but we still had an ok time (we've stayed at 10+ similar resorts). Pros: The staff at this resort care, that is invaluable. Spa services were prompt, normally priced for an all-inclusive, and felt amazing. Room service food was fine and fast. Our room had butler service (Jaime & Travis) and they were very responsive to our requests. Nice guys in general. Room cleaning services were regular and frequent. The gym was well maintained and clean. We were celebrating a 9 year anniversary and the staff set up a bath and rose pedal set up in our room which was really nice of them. During the day at least while I was there people were willing to play volleyball / soccer or get involved in some of the activities happening in the day. There were a few tasty dishes at the resort (our favorite restaurants were the French and Italian, steakhouse is also very popular). The coffee shop was great! The resort is in close proximity to the airport and it took like 15-20 minutes to get there. We had an ocean front room and the view was beautiful. The drinks were good and stronger than most other all inclusive resorts I've been too which was very appreciated. Cons: I thought the food at this resort pretty average. There's 5 restaurants and they are closed on a rotating basis which I'd feel better about if the food across the board was amazing. Was surprised that the Jamaican restaurant wasn't the top restaurant at the resort, and that was the first place we ate so that was disappointing. When we were checking in a young lady offered for us to go to a sales pitch and by doing so we'd get free hour massages. She told us it would be 30 minutes, so we said yes. We showed up at 8am and they had scheduled us for the wrong day. We show up the day we were scheduled on and are told the sales pitch will actually be 90 minutes. Ok...The person that gave us the tour was very chill, went to breakfast with her. She asked us some fact finding questions but nothing crazy. We come to the end of the tour and they break down the pricing for their membership. I say no to one manager, another manager comes. I say no to that manager, another manager comes. 2 and a half hours before we are walking out of this experience. We get to the point where we are signing for our massages, it turns into one massage and "resort credit cash." It felt a bit bait and switchy, and by that point getting a membership was laughable because the resort wasn't even getting the simple things right. Found the resort was lacking evening entertainment. While the resort had singers in the lobby, DJ, party opportunities most days I'm used to having themed entertainment shows included in the price. As an example an MJ impersonator or a 70s theme night. Etc. During our 7 day stay I saw 2 free show opportunities, and a more frequent paid show experience (70 USD$). We had multiple issues in our room. The room phone had technical issues so it if I set it to charge it would make a dial tone noise every 30 seconds or so. But no sweat I'd just leave it off the hook and put it on when we left the room. When we first got to the room we were trying to see what channels were available on TV, and came to realize we only had the option to stream from our own device. Weird but wasn't a problem since we had brought our own laptops. Fast forward to half way through our week stay, the pixels in the TV go bad. So we ask our butler for maintenance to replace the TV, and in doing so find out that there were local channels available. We just didn't have it on the TV we were using for the first half of our trip for whatever reason (and we checked all sources on the TV). I opened one of the storage cabinets in the room and I guess a screw had come loose and it fell halfway out (the top screw was still holding it). A lightbulb started flickering randomly one night and maintenance came and figured it out. By staying at this resort you have access to two other resorts, however when we went there was a lot of construction at the neighboring resort and a nonfunctioning lazy river. By staying at this resort you have access to a hydrotherapy circuit included, but when we went the pumps for the hydrotherapy session weren't working. We were swimming in the pool and a pool light / wiring were just floating around. I really want to love every resort I go to but the downside of traveling often is seeing the level of detail some other resorts have. For me this one just wasn't as competitive as resorts elsewhere and I highly doubt I'll return to this resort based on our experience.

    Fantastic resort

As a frequent traveler all over the Caribbean (25+ times), I feel extremely compelled to write a review about Joia Rose Hall in Montego bay. We stayed from Oct 30 to Nov6 2024. There were 7 of us on this trip and we all agree it was an absolutely fabulous resort. Hands-down our favorite! My husband and I have stayed at several Sandals resorts and they don't hold a candle to this place! The service was unmatched. They catered to our every need. The resort was spotles, constantly being cleaned. Yes, some minor upgrades would be great but none of that impacted our stay in any way. The staff was so attentive, especially Dashawn at the pool. He was so friendly and informative. The rooms were fantastic and were restocked twice a day! I've been on some amazing beaches in the Caribbean. This one was not spectacular but it was certainly nice. Well maintained and nice soft sand, just not very big but again, it suited our needs. As a lifelong beach bunny, I have no complaints about this beach. Lots of huts and cushy lounge chairs. The food was delicious and plentiful! For me (a finicky vegetarian), I wished the buffet was open every night to give me more choices but even the a-la-cartes offered me choices. I love it when a-la-cartes don't require reservations so that was a big plus! There were also plenty of vegan options available in the restaurants and the buffet. The pools were also fantastic with plenty of loungers. The pool games were fun to watch and no pressure to participate. I've read some reviews where folks complain about being harassed for a good review. We were only asked once (about halfway thru our vacation) to leave a review and we did. It was not an issue for us. Another plus was the quick 20 minute drive to and from the airport! In summary, this place was amazing and we will definitely return. I'm interested to see the difference in service between spring and fall. All in all, no complaints from 7 seasoned travelers! I could go on and on about this place and will definitely look at other iberostar properties.

Jamaican me sad we stayed here!

Honest review from someone who has been to several other Jamaica resorts that were nice. Lobby smells of a horrible piped in scent that they are using to try to cover the mouldy smell. It stinks. The hallways are dark all day and not lit up at night be careful of salamanders because you can squish one pretty easy it happened to me. He got stuck my sandals which I left there. The halls are not air conditioned only the lobby is and they smell of mould. Front desk people are fine they have zero control and rely on a manager to decide everything for them and they were never seen even when asked for. They sit in behind the front desk in offices doing who knows what’s other than telling the front desk folks what they can offer or not. Concierge are very nice ladies but will try to get you to do a hard pitch sale of a vacation “club” aka time share with huge sales pressure. The tour is over 2.5 hours but they will say 1.5. Tons of walking and the breakfast is at the suites resort next door and it’s the same as waves buffet breakfast exactly. Do not waste your time. We met a couple who bought into it and actually ended up booking via westjet because the “club” was more expensive. The elevators do not work regularly and several people got stuck in every section of the resort that has elevators. My husband was stuck in the dark inside an elevator for 15 minutes in building 2. Rooms- and we saw 5 have a mouldy stench, some the a/c doesn’t work, or tub doesn’t drain, or toilet flush or the fan above the bed is so wobbly it probably will kill someone one day. They all stink of mould some less than others. All my clothes stink now. There is mould growing in the actual rooms, beds are hard as rock. Sheets stained and not the cleaning crews fault it’s the resort being cheap. Shower floor is laminate flooring. There are bugs of all varieties running about. Food what a serious let down. Where do I even start. I actually went to my horrible room hungry nightly. It’s very cheap cuts of meat, no pasta bar, everything sort of tasted the same dessert wise. Lettuce and dill pickles were my go too lunches because there was so many gross things my husband even spit out many things and he loves everything. Breakfast toaster takes at minimum 3 rounds. Egg guys are fine and will do your eggs as you like. Some days there is cheese, some days not. Tomatoes as well. No bananas all week or mint. The Samurai (Japanese) restaurant was okay but no fun show like at other resorts. The food also tastes all the same. Uncle Tony’s the brisket was the best food we had all week. The Italian was terrible and the only restaurant that servers seemed angry we were there. Drinks terrible. Vodka tastes like turpentine. They pour it like they don’t own it even if you ask for a weak drink. There are not enough bartenders at all. We waited at the pool bar before 10AM for 40 minutes to get a drink. Zero entertainment unless you consider watching people get wasted or slipping all over the pool area entertainment. The floors are so dangerous we saw so many people crack there heads open and go the hospital no idea why it’s so slippery but if you decide to go please be careful or hire a great lawyer to sue them. They are renovating the outside and some rooms are room was a renovated room bahaha jokes on us! We would never stay at an Iberostar again. Actually so disappointed with the entire trip.

    Excellent Service

My wife and I always feel welcome at Iberostar Resorts. This was our second time at Rose Hall but first at JOIA (Grand). We anre not demanding and won’t like to be overly pampered but our Concierge, Cedric, went above and beyond to make us feel like family. On top of that, the butlers, Jaimie, Rushane, Berris and Travis paid extra special attention to us. Whatever we asked for, they delivered. All of the staff were super friendly and welcoming. I wish we could name them by name. In spite of the tropical storm, the entire staff made the experience thoroughly enjoyable Until next time, thank you!
