Great beach below average customer service.
First of all, this was our 4th consecutive stay in Punta Cana, 1st at secrets. The Hotel itself was very nice. Updated rooms, nice beds, clean. The beach was amazing, soft sands and clear water. The staff handled the seaweed pretty good. Plenty of room to stay near the beach. We stayed preferred so had the upgrades, pools, better drinks etc… it was valentines week so expected prices to be a little higher even though we stayed on sunday-wed. Unfortunately left Dominican with a bad taste in our mouths and most likely wont return. The staff with the exception of 2-3 people were not friendly. I feel like this is an issue throughout Dominican though not just at Secrets. We have also stayed at many other all-inclusives throughout Mexico, costa rica, and Jamaica to compare. The people of the DR seem careless when it comes to customer service. Rarely greet you, and to us it seemed like they were being forced to work there. During breakfast, the waiters rarely came back to check on us. This was every morning. Also, my wife’s wallet was gone through in our room and cash was stolen, this has never happened before. Yeah maybe she should have used the safe but she had left her wallet in her luggage bad which still had her clothes and put it under all her stuff, someone clearly ransacked our stuff looking for easy things to steal. There are cameras in the hotel and the with electronic keys, it would have been easy to find out the culprit. Instead, our butler asked why we didnt report it immediately, i explained i did not want it to ruin our vaca since we were there with friends and thought telling her at the end would be sufficient to have an investigation done. She did none, just apologized and sent us on our way. I told her i would like to have a supervisors information to make the claim and never heard from anyone. Again, not a huge deal but still felt like our privacy was invaded in the room. For the price we paid(almost 3 times what weve paid before) we expected better treatment. We have stayed at dreams, breathless (sister hotels) in Mexico with never any issues and the staff has always gone above and beyond. I feel like the people of Dominican dont like Americans, except for the dollar. They are very sketchy and seem to always be about scams. For example, on the DR government website, you need to file for a QR come to declare anything coming in or leaving the country and if you dont have that done, you cant board the plne. This costed 70 dollars per person each entering and leaving and must pay a quick process fee of 35 dollars if you need it within an hour. This is a scam from the government there. Any other country make you feel paper forms to make declarations before you land or leave before they check passports. This is also a newer thing since we never needed that on our first two trips to dominican. So in conclusion, of you are spending the money and want top notch customer service and amazing beaches, do Riviera Maya or Costa Rica and avoid Punta Cana. Sadly we loved the place but wont be returning back. I must add, there were 2-3 employees that were very friendly and helpful, also, I speak the language so cant blame the language barrier. Maybe Secrets management will someday contact me regarding, but I seriously doubt it.

Greatest Bartender!
Visit Robert G. Aka Robert D Niro, best bartender at the resort. Must get preferred bar lounge access. Mixology master extrordinaire! Just ask Robert for a concoction and he will create something delicious. He was a bright spot in our trip for sure.

Amazing way to relax and celebrate!
Beautiful location, amazing service, food and entertainment. Our favorite server was Lisnauri at the pool and Brailyn aka Hot Coffee with entertainment made our experience even more special! The nightly shows were fun, especially the Greatesf Show. Our bed was comfy. I wouldn’t change a thing!

Great, with some caveats
The resort is very good. However, to be able to use all of the restaurants, pools, and amenities you need to pay for "preferred status" which I did not find clearly stated on the secrets website before booking. The beach is white, with ample chairs and shade available. There are activities planned at both the pool and beach during the day. There is an evening entertainer each night. The room is comfortable and well maintained. There is a travel group, Unlimited Vacation Club, that has dedicated space at Secrets. They use high pressure and deceptive sales techniques to con the guests of the resort. Say no! Be firm! I hope the Hyatt/Secrets resorts will remove their presence in the future. Do not let them steal your time or fall for their deception.

Preferred club
Robert G at the preferred bar was the best bartender ever! He was very friendly and made us feel like family! We celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary here and enjoyed every minute of it! We will definitely be back and hope to see Robert G again!
