Food poisoning, crowded beach, Staff didn't speak English

The good: grounds are beautiful, lots of lovely pools to choose from, accomodation very nice and quiet where we were. Now the bad: somebody thought it would be a good idea to build the resort around a mangrove swamp (which stank). So, mosquitos were everywhere in their millions and made my husband's life a misery, he was covered in bites. Nothing he did would stop them, not repellents, bracelets or plugins in the room. They just loved to bite him! The beach: lots of seaweed, someone had put on this site that the hotel staff tried their best to clear it regularly, no they didn't. It wasn't a private beach so there were always hoards of people and no a pleasant experience to use. None of the staff spoke English apart from customer services The worst: the food! My daughter and I got food poisoning because of the way the pasta was cooked in front of you: raw vegetables mixed with warm sauces and cold, cooked pasta then thrown together in a frying pan for a minute so not cooked through enough. We were ill for days. The buffet dishes consisted of over cooked meats and fish and sloppy vegetables. The Indian (Hindu) corner was nice. The restaurants weren't much better: we ate at the Italian, my food was awful! Warm minestrone soup which just tasted of salt, partly cooked fish and dessert was a rock hard stale mirangue with a stale sauce. The staff did their best but this place is just too big for any decent, personalised service - you are just a number. I cannot recommend this place and it was put me off ever going to an all inclusive again.

Clean but low quality food and drinks

Our family of 4 spent the last week at the Grand. Pros: Clean grounds Nice rooms with comfy beds Friendly staff (not at lot of English speaking staff) Cons: Poor quality food and drinks Entertainment at only one pool (which we never got a chair at) No chairs at beach or "fun" pool (even after going at 7 am) Sometimes no service at the buffet (no water, coffee, had to get own utensils)

Great vacation at Bahia Principe Grand

This was one of the best resorts we have been to.It was a very busy resort but all the staff very friendly always had time to chat The food was very good buffet had many different varieties of food. We booked at the Garden grill steak house the food was excellent also the Italian restaurant also great. Booking in at the resort was painless also you booked your own al carte at a separate computer screen in the lobby. Three beautiful large pools, also the grounds well kept the rooms were clean with no issues. I wood definitely return to this resort

Very Large, beautiful beach, mosquito heaven.

People always want to know the truth so here it is… the resort itself is huge and has a lot of beauty to it , as with any resorts they get dated . I find I prefer resorts with 600 or less rooms as the service is much better because there’s less people to please , lots of walking from one end to the other. Lobbies and buffets are on one side of the resort and beach and main pool are on the other side, they have shuttles, but that can be annoying, by the time one comes you’ve already walked half the distance . The beach itself is beautiful and very long, but also very busy. There are many resorts attached to this beach. There is a smaller buffet and snack bar by the main pool and beach , I found it to be overcrowded so we spent a lot of of our days at the other two pools as they were less crowded, but there was no food close by so you had to walk again just to get a snack , there are plenty of bars everywhere so if you’re looking to drink all day, you’re good luck . Bathrooms were few and far apart . Rooms were OK. Tried to get a better room on the first day which is a waste of time. They just want you to spend the money for an upgrade so you’re pretty much stuck with what you get and if you want to be close to people in your group forget it so we just took what we were given and made the best of it . Service was average, the staff could have been friendlier and could have smiled more often. If you had a problem with something they were quick to come to your room, but never did anything about it . The water in my shower was lukewarm. I prefer it hotter and the cable was snowy on the TV. They sent someone to look at it. They smiled at me and said it’s OK. I’ll be back in five minutes and then saw him two hours later, riding his bike and never returned so I just didn’t bother and lived with it . Mosquitoes were crazy. Every review you read about the mosquitoes is true. They have a swampy area and little water troughs everywhere in the lobby so it’s a great breeding ground for mosquitoes . I’ve never been to a resort with this problem so they need to fill in that swamp area to resolve this problem . All in all we had an average time at an average resort. Probably wouldn’t return. I’ve been to better places for the same price. My key points to this resort is… LARGE , BUSY, MOSQUITO HEAVEN, BEAUTIFUL BEACH, AVERAGE SERVICE! GOOD FOOD!

    A Holiday to Forget

In January 2024, I went on holiday with two friends, and I've been hesitant to write this review because our experience was pretty frustrating. The hotel was physically clean and the location was fine, but nearly everything else fell short. Initially, things seemed okay, but communication was a major problem. The staff barely spoke English, making basic requests like ordering food difficult. As days passed, staff became less friendly, and service at dinner was practically non-existent and we had to chase waitstaff for simple things like drinks in the dinner (which was not the case in the first couple of days). Things went downhill fast when our room developed serious issues. First, a cockroach appeared in the bathroom. When we reported this to the front desk, they suddenly couldn’t understand English, despite having spoken it earlier. Then the entire water supply to our room stopped, leaving us unable to shower, wash, or use the toilet. When we told reception about the water issue, they claimed there was nothing they could do and insisted it affected the entire hotel, which was a lie. We spoke with other guests and it turned out this only affected our building (and obviously we had to use public bathrooms which worked fine). Despite having other rooms available, they refused to move us and did not offer a single apology - nothing at all to acknowledge the inconvenience. After almost two days (!) of not having water in our room, we complained again and finally met with a manager who apologized and offered a bottle of champagne - hardly comforting in an all-inclusive resort, but at this point we were happy to receive any type of compensation. He promised to formally address the situation after our holiday, but, surprisingly, over a year later, there’s been no follow-up. It felt as though they just wanted us to stop causing a fuss. Additionally, the hotel grounds were swarmed with pushy vendors, and all extra services were ridiculously overpriced. We constantly felt unwelcome and unsafe, as if the only interest of the staff was extracting as much money from us as possible. Leaving the hotel was a relief.
