KA WA‘A, a Lu‘au at Aulani Resort:

Aloha ‘Auinala! As the sun dips into the ocean to end the day, a conch shell is blown in the distance and a Hawaiian oli chant begins. This is the tradition of welcoming our Guests to KA WA‘A, a Lu‘au at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa which Guests will soon be able to experience once again!

Set under the stars on the beautiful Halawai Lawn, KA WA‘A immerses you in the live music, traditional dance, and ancient stories of Hawai‘i through Disney’s signature entertainment.  Prior to the show, Guests are encouraged to participate in family activities that are now enjoyed from the comfort of their own table. The activity demonstrations include flower arranging and poi pounding, a process in which Taro root is ground to create poi -- a food that is a staple of the ancient Hawaiian diet.

The lu‘au features a three-course plated meal that includes mouth-watering island favorites such as ahi poke and lomilomi salmon salad, imu-style braised pork, island fish, teriyaki chicken, local seasonal vegetables, and a dessert trio. To accompany the meal, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages are included in the event price.

After dinner, Guests are treated to an enchanting journey through Hawaiian history and discover its deep cultural roots in canoe (wa‘a) exploration, which brought the first explorers to the shores of Ko Olina. Throughout the evening, lively music and traditional Hawaiian dance vividly bring the show’s story to life.

The lu‘au is offered three nights per week, weather permitting. Reservations can be made online, or by calling (844) 284-7644.

Concrete monstrosity.Horrible cheap Disney rip off

What an awful place. I would not even give it one star . The whole place looks worse than the photos. A complete concrete monstrosity with zero charm or appeal. Zero class. We went as part of a meet up with family. We wouldn’t normally have chosen any type of Disney resort usually after having visited Disneyworld once before and hated that too. The staff are quite rude and appear bored most of the time. The whole atmosphere is one of the most grandeur tackiness . Junk food galore and if you want a decent meal then sorry , it ain’t gonna appear. They have the audacity to describe their menus to sound like a five star restaurant- beware the food is tacky USA rubbish. Getting a pool chair is like a visit to Benidorm , get out early and drop your towel and dare anyone to challenge you to move it ! The characters costumes looked grubby and the shows are a cheesy mess. In fact the whole place could have been modelled on the Benidorm sitcom. Do yourself a favour - if it’s a classy, five star experience you want , save your cash and choose somewhere like the Maldives where no creature in a furry suit will jump on you from behind a bush.

Great Stay. Perfect for Our Family.

This was our first visit to Aulani. Surprisingly, it is not overly Disney. They don't play Disney songs in the common areas. Character sightings were rare for me. My kids so a few characters in passing. There are touches of Disney like Mickey Mouse lamps and Mickey shaped ice creams and snow cones. But otherwise, it is minimal. Our two bedroom villa was very comfortable for our family of five with two upper teen kids and an elementary aged kid. The beds were comfortable. We had two queen beds and one king plus sleeper sofas. There are three tvs and 2.5 bathrooms. Perfect amount of room for our family. We hit the nearby Target to buy some food to prepare some meals in the room. Otherwise, we ventured out around the island for meals or ate at the resort. You can expect resort prices ($16 for a caesar salad). The pool deck and beach can be crowded. We never had trouble find a few chairs together. Given the time difference, we were often up and ready to hit the pool by the time it opened. So getting chairs was no issue. It doesn't really start to fill up until about 9:30 AM. Hotel service is fantastic, as you would expect from Disney. I think the hotel has a capacity of 4,000 people, and is almost always at a high occupancy level. We did a cabana one day. Definitely worth it. The pools and lazy river are fantastic. The infinity pool is great, too. There is even a small water park for kids. Be sure to take in a few sunsets from the pool or beach. They are breathtaking. Valet parking and self-parking are the same cost, so we did valet. They are very quick when retrieving the car. Overall a great stay. I would say the hotel is a bit over priced for what you get, but it is Hawai'i. The price is in line with nearby resorts, so you don't feel gouged, but still, I felt like it was overpriced and a little dated.

    Aulani in Winter

My Fiancee and I recently stayed at Aulani on a 1 Bedroom Ocean View suite from 17 Jan to 23 Jan 2025. I am a DVC member but promise to give an honest assessment even though its my 3rd time to Aulani in 5 years. Kim and I got engaged in Maui the week prior as this was a 3 island trip I planned for us. Aulani is beautiful and the service terrific. We enjoyed the Olelo Room Bar area, Hot Tub, Lazy River, Pools and the convenience of what was nearby. The biggest comment is for two indivudals in the Olelo Room bar, Aukai and Jeana. Both provided outstanding service, quality food and drinks and provided helpful insight to local places we were interested in visiting. We felt it was important to mention them because we did come back a few times to just enjoy the great service and nice atmosphere. My one concern I did have and its not a bad thing but I miss the open menus that the other restaurants used to have. I see more catering to the Disney Dining which is ok but my fiancee is Vegatarian and the Olelo room was the only option that could serve her food she could enjoy. The other places used to have more options but its not just a tailored 4 course menu.

    Love this place

I have to start this review, by saying we live on the east coast of the United States and this was our 7th time visiting Aulani. We are now 70. These visits have been without any children. That should speak volumes of what we think of this incredible resort. The design of Aulani is unlike any other hotel you find in Hawaii. It’s amazing design celebrates the Hawaiian culture almost everywhere you look. It’s a feast for the eyes and the senses. While it is a Disney property, and there are ample opportunities for character encounters, the best character here is the resort and its cast members. It’s two lounges both offer very decent food offerings and great drinks and service. There is also carry out offerings from the Ulu cafe for breakfast, lunch and dinner. An evening at a table outside the Olelo room, having some sushi and a cocktail while listening to Wonderful Hawaiian performers is as close to paradise as one can get. Of course Aulani suffers from “chair hogs” a problem almost every resort and cruise ship encounters. People who drop towels on a dozen pool chairs at 8AM. We, however, never had a problem getting two chairs with an umbrella on the beach. Returning the Aulani Quiet pool this year to an adults only area, was a welcome change. It was “adults only” when the resort opened and we were delighted to find it “adults only” again There have been some other changes since the property opened that we would love to see return to how they were originally. We sorely miss Ama Ama as an a la Carte restaurant. As a price fixed restaurant, it’s a high price for such a limited menu. In the past we might eat there 3 times in two weeks. Since the change we haven’t eaten there once. We also miss Ama Ama as a 2nd musical offering. We’ve seen some absolute Hawaiian legends there over the years For those first timers, there are plenty of places “off campus” to enjoy cheaper and more local offerings and also a number of places in Walking distance to just mix up the menu a bit. We will be back for an 8th time. It’s just that good.

It has appeal, but I think only for a small group.

The location is nice and the activities are fun, but in classic Disney fashion they charge for basically any activity you want to do. This wouldn't be a problem if there were other options out there around the way, but since you are kind of not near any other parts of the island, you are basically stuck. The pool chair complaint everyone else seems to have is a bit overblown in my opinion, are you not able to get the best seats you want whenever yes, but that's life. I do wish the food options were better, we ended up driving around almost every night looking for better options, which wasn't hard to find.
