Our Favorite Place!
We stayed here during the Hurricane Dorian craze and the entire staff was professional and wonderful. We adore this resort and are planning a return trip this September. It fantastic if you have kids and teens. So much fun and laid back. Highly recommended.
First off and of huge importance to me-I was able to sleep! I can never sleep in hotels due to the temperature or the loud AC unit. At Cabana Bay I was able to sleep comfortably through the night. In addition to this highlight, there were several others. The food was very good. Better than expected for a food court and we had several meals there. The game room was cool and the prizes my son won were much better than the usual from a game room and he still uses them 2 weeks later. Next, I need to call out the staff. They made everything too easy! Even a request I had where I needed to get something to a co-worker who lives in the area, the front desk facilitated the entire exchange so I could spend the day at the park. Also super accommodating in exchanging a tube that I got that was too big and they even give you brand new deflated tubes for your flight home. Finally, the free WiFi was able to support the Amazon Fire Stick I brought without issue, a huge plus when traveling with a child. Everything at Cabana Bay was excellent and is now our hotel of choice in Orlando.
I enjoyed a 3 night stay here in February. I stayed in one of the family suites. The room was a decent size and the beds were comfy. My room was close to the parking lot, the pool, the lobby, and the walking path to Islands of Adventure. The room set up was good with a separate bathroom and shower and a sink separating the two. The sitting room was nice. I do wish they had the choice of a regular coffee pot, but the single serving coffee they did have was of good quality. The proximity to Volcano Bay was great. The bus transportation was seamless. Thanks for a great stay.
Overall great stay. 50s themed. Pool area great for all, lazy river not huge but a great addition to any resort. Kids loved splash pad and artificial turf area for playing games. Outdoor movies was also hit with kids. Location really combines for universal parks and city walk. Free bus shuttles every 5min until 2am. Also free ferry service located at hotel next door (approx 5min walk). Rooms are overall pretty nice, some minor issues with attention to detail, paint chips, dirt on bathroom wall, and brown rust like colour at bottom of bathroom door. Would have been nice to have a door to close sink area off from sleeping area. Family suite is decent size with living room area separated with sliding door to sleeping area. 2 tv included in suite. Also has small kitchenette with fridge sink and microwave. Diner has a ton of options for cafeteria style service with large dining room to eat. Prices are mid range. Starbucks just off lobby is convenient but the pricing seems to be marked up from sb outside hotel. Any kjnd if drink with alcohol your looking at around 13usd. A double turns into 26usd. Steep. But overall this is a great hotel with convenience.
Overpriced for what you get
On the positive side we had a great view of the volcano water park. I liked the fun overall 50s theming of the hotel. And the few staff we interacted with were all nice. But the room itself was very average for the price we paid. And service was barebones to non-existent. Apart from check-in we barely interacted with any hotel staff. Our room was never cleaned (we stayed two nights). The two ‘queen’ beds are not actually queen sized, they are smaller, so my husband and I, who share a queen bed at home, had to sleep in separate beds. I noticed a few other reviewers had the same issue. I would rather pay more to stay at a full service hotel, or pay less and stay at a regular non-universal hotel. It was too cold to use the regular pool or lazy river during our visit and the hot tub was overcrowded. Maybe if it was warmer weather and we could have utilized the pool complex more it would have felt like better value.
