Location, location, location
Despite some minor issues (see below) this was an amazing stay. To be honest, the Sheraton could completely phone it in and still win just on location alone. Probably the best in the Hawaiin islands. The most swimable beach Ive ever been on. Perfect width, beautiful sand with very little coral where you can touch so now hurt toes. But the real gem is Black Rock. The rock juts out into the ocean creating a great place for snorkeling, cliffdiving ( which is endelessly entertaining to watch if you are not brave enough). It is also has torches at night and a nightly cliff dive ceremony where a (slightly dated and colonialist gaze seeming - maybe? ) shirtless Hawaiin man runs around lighting torches and then dives off the cliff. And the snorkeling… never have I stayed literally feet from such good (not great… but pretty damn good) snorkeling. On a whim you are looking at turtles in ten minutes. The hotel: Good: - architechture - Lighting - Balconies - Well kept greennspace - Nice spa with reasonable (by rediculous Maui standards) prices. Bad: - Some areas of building are in need of TLC. The roof areas you see from floor landings were gross. The parking garage elevator is from the 80’s. - Slow check in after loooong day of travel - Broken footwash near beach entrance. Boo sandy feet. - Food: not enough choices, changing openess was confusing. Wayyy overpriced even for Hawaii. L - Not enough pool chairs. You shouldnt have to stress or pay for pool chairs. Boo. But in my experience this is an all too common problem across brands. - Had mechanical issues in my room (door card reader had to be replaced). - Room fridges are very weak. Barely cool. - Underside of pool bridges ugly and gross. Despite those nits I pick, the vibe of this place is pure bliss. If you can’t have a good time here you are crazy. Aloho! PS: pro tips 1) Valet is free the first night but not after. Take them up on it the first night with bags, etc. But then go move your car the next day to “self park” and save. 2) One way to avoid pool chair stress is to rent a Casabella for $60 a day (sests two) right after booking your trip. Do it early though to get best pick. Google “Sheraton Maui Poolside” to find the link to reserve them early. 3) Ask for Building 4. Longer walk to parking, but close to Black Rock, overlooks best part of the pool a d has the biggest balconies.
Ants everywhere in our room - otherwise fabulous
The property is fabulous, truly spectacular. We stayed for two nights before moving to a another Marriott property, When we checked in, my Titanium elite status was recognized and valet parking was free because of it which was a nice bonus. We stayed in a ocean view family suite and the room was lovely, it was large and we loved the fact it had four beds (great for a family of five). The property was very very busy and getting a pool side chair during the day was impossible unless you got up at 6am and the pool was packed. However we swam at night with no issues. However we did hear a women telling her kid it was time to go and to get out of the pool as the public garage was going to be locked at 7pm, clearly there were folks not staying at the hotel using the pool. The food is subpar at best and expensive at the poolside restaurant Mai Tai - very disappointing! Overall our stay was going great until the day of checkout… we awoke to ants everywhere. We left a box of doughnuts by the sink in the kitchenette. I was not aware of the issue when i snagged one (in the dark as my kids were sleeping) and ate it, until I felt something crawling on me, When I flipped on the light, come to find out the entire box was infested, as was the counter and our other food we were storing in the kitchenette, and we even found some ants in one of the beds. They were everywhere… When I called about it all I was told was that they would tell housekeeping. I guess because we were checking out no one cared. Overall great stay until we got attacked by ants! Great stay at the Sheraton Maui Resort!
We had a wonderful stay at the Sheraton in Maui and will definitely return to stay there on our next travels to Maui. Upon check-in we were greeted with the sweetest lady to check us in who was very personable. I told her we were on vacation to celebrate my daughter‘s high school graduation. She was very honest upon check in to let us know the room that we were being given was not a great one given it was right next to the elevators, which on my Bonvoy list of requirements is a room not near an elevator since I’m a very light sleeper. She stated she would talk to her manager to see about getting us a better room the following day as they were sold out. She was right the first room was not great, however the room we were moved to the next day in building two was larger and just amazing with the views. We found the beds very comfortable the rooms are very clean and spacious. The best part was the view from the balcony it is one you can never get tired of and feel very grateful every time you open up those curtains and look out!! The pools were crowded we actually only went in them a few times and instead spent most of our time on the beach. We had a few meals at the cliff dive bar which were good for a quick lunch or easy dinner. I also enjoyed the Rise and Shine yoga class offered at the resort that we did outside with a wonderful instructor! What a great way to start the day! When we arrived in Maui, we went to Costco and bought chairs and umbrellas that we just planned on leaving there rather than having to rent them each day. It worked out perfectly. I would walk the beach each morning from one end of the resorts to the other and I have to say I feel the Sheraton had the best grounds of any of the hotels in the area. We will without a doubt stay at the Sheraton on our next trip to Maui.
Paradise on Points!
After waiting 2+ years for a family vacation, we booked Hawaii and spent 5 nights at the Sheraton Maui on rewards points. Our suite night upgrade cleared 5 days ahead of our check in and we got a deluxe ocean view room in building 2. Nice large room with a big lanai and beautiful view! We ordered lunch multiple times at the pool from the Cliff dive bar; food was ok. We rented snorkel equipment from the Snorkel Store just one street up on the other side of the golf course. At $35/set for 10 days it was a great way to snorkel at black rock and beyond. The snorkeling was nice and watching the daring jump off the cliff with cheering from those below was entertaining! Fabulous location that was much quieter tucked away from the crowds of people filling the buildings closer to Whalers Village. The pools were very nice but plan to wake up early to secure chairs. We got ours between 6:30-7:00am every morning and it filled up by 7:30am. But don’t plan on dropping your stuff and coming back later - they tag chairs that are not occupied for an hour and will remove your belongings. Perks for Titanium Elite were great! Welcome gift of 1k points or breakfast for 2 each morning - we opted for breakfast and enjoyed a continental plate of pastries, yogurt, banana bread and fruit each morning. In addition, a surprise perk of free valet parking for our entire stay thanks to my status saved us $150! Beautiful grounds and friendly staff plus great perks for Bonvoy status made this a really enjoyable stay!!!
We are having an amazing time at the Sheraton, all the staff we have come into contact with has been fantastic and so helpful. Our room (which us upgraded) is the most beautiful room with an amazing view. The grounds are lovely and the lazy River style pool is really cool and my kids loved it. While waiting for our room to be ready we stopped at the pool bar and had delicious fish tacos and some cocktails and the staff working there were so great to us, we plan to go back again tomorrow. We needed to get some extra blankets from housekeeping and it was delivered very quickly to us, which was great because it was getting late. This has been a great hotel for my kids too, the staff has been very friendly and has included them - ie bringing them extra fruit after they finished their lunch and giving them little prizes at the front desk upon check in. The one bummer that I have seen was that the pool closes at 8 pm, which seems very early. Overall it’s been a fantastic experience and I’m looking forward to the rest of our visit.
