Continue to be unimpressed by all-inclusive resorts, even Hyatt unfortunately

We stayed at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos in mid-April 2025 and were with a group of 11 to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday. Our friends booked their hotel, flight, and airport transfers through Costco. I booked for my spouse and myself through Hyatt directly and called the hotel to get assistance with transportation from the airport (addressed below). Check-In - We arrived shortly before 3pm (hotel's standard check-in time). I am a Hyatt Discoverist member. The check-in/registration area is comfortable as they have big desks and chairs you sit down at to be checked in. There is a desk for folks with Hyatt status, but we were never asked if we had status and it was never acknowledged (or thanked, which I have experienced as typical) that I had status. The rest of our group arrived earlier than us and no one was able to get into their room until 3pm, but they were able to enjoy the grounds and eat at the resort. We were shown a map of the resort, but not offered one and no one suggested at check-in that we download the app that has a map, restaurant hours and menus, ability to order room service thru and other amenities, etc... When I went back to registration to request a paper map, the only one they had was written on and was not offered to me, but they suggested the app. Download the app at check-in! Came to find out, our friends had been given paper maps...wtf...This kind of inconsistency is just weird. Train your staff better and more consistently. Service - Service was at best inconsistent. You cannot make reservations at any of the restaurants on site to my knowledge. The only reservation our group was able to make was for Oceana. Maybe you can make one at El Patio? Our group of 11 decided to meet for dinner at El Patio at 7:30. When we showed up, the hostess was rude and said someone had made a res for 7 and we didn't show. Miscommunication--fine. Then the wait would be an hour for a table. So we tried Himitsu, wait was gonna be around 20 minutes for a table for 9 so we broke up and 2 of us went to the Asado grill set up on the lawn by the activities area (we did not all go there because there would not have been seating together anyway). We waited much longer and finally were seated at Himitsu where they proceeded to put us at a table for 11! We were so hungry and my brain was exploding at this point. The next day we showed at Oceana for our reserved table and waited 10-15 minutes for it to be set up...why?! It had been so frustrating to try to all eat together that I went to Portfofino to try to get a reservation for our group for our last night there, BUT THEY DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS. Advice from the host was that the ONLY WAY to know we'd get to eat there together was to come at opening at 6pm. I truly find this unacceptable. If 11 people are coming together to enjoy your resort and we've all prepaid to be there the service should be much better and accommodating. They knew they had this large group coming because the birthday person requested we all be in the same building for our rooms. They also won't seat you until all your party is there and won't let you order until your all your party is seated. Again, at a restaurant where they depend on turning your table over to make $$$ I get it, but at an all inclusive hearing "no" as a prepaid guest over and over again is infuriating. My friends were requesting drinks at another restaurant when I wasn't with them and were told they could not get another round until they finished the ones on the table. Never happened anywhere else, but again wtf... Through the app, you can pre-schedule room service orders. We did this for breakfast one day and the food came 15 mins early, great! Given our miss of a dinner at Himitsu, we pre-ordered some food for the subsequent evening in case our dinner was again disappointing. This food showed up to our room the same day we placed the order rather than for the next day as it had been requested for. Also, the housekeeping staff ignores if you have the DND light on outside your door and still knocks for service. We had AMAZING pool side service from one particular server that was truly appreciated! Food - Hit or miss as always at all-inclusives. This is the second Hyatt owned/run all-inclusive and I had hoped that would mean objectively good, but unfortunately not the case. Everything at Portfofino and Oceana was edible or better. At Himitsu, most everything was ok, but I ordered the chicken pad thai and I swear the base of the sauce was ketchup! Lobster gyoza was good. Szechuan green beans were good. Servings were v small and it would have been nice for the number of gyoza or pieces of sushi on a plate to be indicated on the menu so you know how much to order especially when you're sharing with a large group. Pool side food from Barefoot Grill was ok. The Taco Salad was mostly topics and not enough lettuce. Burger was only ok. Room service food - breakfast ok, late nite lacked quality (esp club sandwich) Pool - The water in the main pool was too hot to be refreshing and it wasn't even really hot the days we were there so on our last full day we hung at the loungers down by the beach instead. Have had this experience at other all-inclusive resorts in Cabo so don't know if its a typical issue or not. Pool also needs better filtering. Room - Room was nicely appointed if maybe the decor was somewhat dated. Large bathtub with jets (we didn't use it, but others in our group did and enjoyed). Bed was fine. Nice pillows! Transportation - I called the hotel a few weeks in advance to see if they offered or could arrange transport from/to the airport. They arranged for private transport for 2 through Sea of Cortez transportation, and let me know it was going to cost $240 round trip. It took a few weeks for the company to reach out to me to confirm and let me know how to find them at the airport. I had to ask questions to get all the info I felt I needed so I wouldn't say their communication if very proactive. Day of arrival, we find our driver no problem - BUT, his all digital e-break will not disengage so we get in the car and wait for them to figure out an alternative. This happened fairly quickly and they put us in another SUV with an entirely different company. That driver took our full payment up front AND in pesos. So when the cost came through is ended up almost $15 over the quoted price. This would not have been a big deal if they had told us the $240 was an approximate price based on the exchange rate and we'd be paying in pesos. No acknowledgement or discount for the inconvenience of their vehicle not working either. The day before our departure, I had to reach out to confirm our pick-up, which they pushed back a half hour from our original pick-up time. We had plenty of time so that wasn't the issue, but seemingly v strange for them not to reach out to confirm and let me know the time was changing. In the end, I won't use this transport company again and our $240 rt ride cost $295 because of the exchange rate changes, paying in pesos (pls just tell your customer in adv), and tipping each driver $20 US.

Amazing Stay at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos!

My girlfriend and I just returned from a 5-night stay at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos, and we can honestly say it was one of the best vacations we've ever had. We booked a Preferred Club King Room, and it was worth every penny—from the private check-in to the upgraded amenities and the exclusive access to the Preferred pool. Shoutout to Leonardo at the Preferred pool—he went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of every single day. His service and kindness really stood out. Also, huge thanks to Ivan for making the tequila tasting not only educational but absolutely hilarious. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip! We loved that everything was all-inclusive—great food, amazing service, and top-tier drinks, all without a second thought. It really allowed us to relax and enjoy every moment. Already planning our next trip back. Highly recommend for couples looking to unwind and enjoy a luxury experience in Los Cabos!

    We had a great week!

We stayed ocean view preferred club, it had good space and outdoor jacuzzi was nice at night looking at stars. I understand that some review say resort needs update but room was clean and staff members were very kind and welcoming. It was convenient to have preferred office, it was close to our room and we can ask anything immediately. They had good activities and Ivan was so funny and very talented to entertain guests. Miguel was very nice hard worker, both young guys impressed us during our stay. Also yoga teacher Kate was great to us as well. Regarding night time entertainment, I thought it would be good if they have high quality show more often. Overall, it was great place to stay. Thank you.

    10 out of 10 recommend!

Secrets is a must stay if your looking for a quiet, elegant, luxury hotel property. The staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. The property is pristine! The views are stunning from every point on the property. My husband rarely will vacation to the same location twice, but he said he would definitely come back to Secrets Cabo.

    Best vacation ever!

This resort was impeccable. From the accommodations to the service. I can’t complain about anything. The turndown service was a nice treat. Roses left in the room, slippers placed next to each side of the bed. Our bed was made up with a fresh set of sheets every single night.
