Oceans great- room and resort are horrible and need a lot of renovation. Not enough staff
So much to say. This place needs to be completely renovated! Amenities like spa and most restaurants are not at this resort, have to walk down to 2 other resorts for them. Here are a couple of restaurants on the property, sometime ok, leaves a bit of be desired. I can't express how bad the room was. So will let the pictures say it all- pillows are horrifying- fel like bags of hard pieces of foam. Only thing good are the pools and the ocean of course! N needs landscaping, weeding people to skim pools, clean walks, etc. HELP NEEDED HERE!

Still love this resort
To start off, this is around my 5th visit to this property. I have been going since before it was a Secrets. I’ve seen lots of changes, both good and bad over the years. Starting off with the good: the staff here is beyond helpful. They are always ready to help you, answer a question, or deal with an issue. The wait staff at the beach/pools work extra hard and their effort is truly noticed. Same with the Entertainment Team. Luz on the Entertainment Team was always around with a smile trying to get you to join in activities. I’d also like to mention Victor, a waiter at Oceana, for recommending a great drink and being an all around pleasure. While visiting we had massages at the spa, and it was one of the best massages we have ever had. We also enjoyed the Mayan night show and the Mexican night show. I only wish these were outside instead of in the restaurants, as it was a bit difficult to see at times. Going on to the not as good: the first night at the resort, our room flooded from the air conditioner. I reported this to the concierge and they had me meet with a supervisor. Pablo, the supervisor, couldn’t have been more accommodating. He was able to change our room within the hour and have all our luggage moved. He also kept in touch with us every day for the rest of the trip, and we were truly appreciative for that. The food was average. Some restaurants were better than others. I wish the menus were more diverse though. This seems to be an issue since Hyatt bought out the Secrets brand. That said, the caramel flan at Windows was to die for! For this trip we were in the Preferred Club, as we had read that you needed the Preferred Club to have access to most things. This is true. Before the Hyatt buyout, you would have access to all the restaurants at the resorts, now you need to be PC in order to get in. I blame this squarely on Hyatt, and not the Secrets brand. I’ve noticed the downturn in quality since Hyatt took over. The Preferred Club lounge was redone since the last time I had visited, and was really nice. We didn’t have to wait for tables or have an issue with towels or beach chairs. But it seemed like the resort was at low capacity the week we were there. This resort needs some updating, which other reviewers have mentioned. It looks like it is slowly happening. I miss a number of things from before the Hyatt buyout, but we can’t go back in time. Before I would have rated this a 5 star, now I am rating a 4 star. Will things be perfect? Of course not. But make the best of your trip. One of the most beautiful beaches and some of the best staff. We would definitely return.

Pleasantly surprised
We saw a lot mixed reviews before going and were very concerned. It ended up being a great vacation. Check in was very smooth and rooms were ready early. We never had an issues getting chairs or towels. Always able to get into restaurants reasonably quick. Now that being said the resort was under 50% occupancy. If the resort was full I could see there being issues. Rooms were clean and our room (4415) was updated. The main pools were a bit yucky as they are still apparently trying to find a leak. The water levels are below the skimmers. Saw someone a couple times using the net to scoop out leaves but no real cleaning that I saw. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Beach is pretty but very difficult to walk into, lots of coral and sea weed. Restaurant schedule is bizarre! If you have a fragrance sensitivity this is not the place for you. There are fragrances warmers everywhere and they are super strong!! There is minimal entertainment and the resort is very quiet in the evenings. There are not nightly shows that we could find. There was one show and dinner at an extra charge that we did not attend. Smoking area is central to the resort near the coffee shop and tennis courts

Don’t go here
Disappointing property from an all inclusive view. Yes, unlimited beverages. Get a side shot of tequila so there will be some. Dining is the major issue. Two of four restaurants that serve supper were closed on arrival day. Another had a 90 minute wait for a table, but no reservations are required per front desk at check-in. We got the last table in the other open venue. Front desk informed that they rotate which venues are open. And these jokers want to sell me a 30 year vacation package for $90K at various properties. I’m 70. Guess what bovine excrement I won’t be buying.

A lot of bang for your buck. Just go!
We really enjoyed our stay here! The food is acceptable, but not great. The staff were amazing! You can’t beat the view, our room was very clean, the housekeeping team were super friendly. They were available and responsive without being pushy or invasive. The beach was super clean and well cared for and the snorkeling out front is a 10+! We do hope to come again someday.
